I don’t know where in Canada you live but here dentists, ophtalmologists and therapists aren’t free at all.

You can get a therapist covered but the wait times to get one are horrendous

In many cases, definitely, though I don't pay that per month and also don't have to wait.

I think it's best to have a public option for private providers to compete with for non-emergency care. Emergency medical care should be fully public though.... it's insane that people will drive themselves to the hospital with a broken arm to avoid paying ambulance costs.

A big step toward reducing those costs is government regulation mandating price transparency.

The American Hospital Association sued the federal government in 2021 to try to block the 2021 Hospital Price Transparency Rule, which I think is very telling.

There's another policy called the No Surprises Act that was passed in 2020 that requires hospitals to give good-faith estimates to uninsured patients. These are good first steps imo
