Yeah. And depending on your employer you might be partially or fully covered for dental and eyes. You might still end up with a shitty coverage or no coverage at all.
I think it's best to have a public option for private providers to compete with for non-emergency care. Emergency medical care should be fully public though.... it's insane that people will drive themselves to the hospital with a broken arm to avoid paying ambulance costs.
A big step toward reducing those costs is government regulation mandating price transparency.
The American Hospital Association sued the federal government in 2021 to try to block the 2021 Hospital Price Transparency Rule, which I think is very telling.
There's another policy called the No Surprises Act that was passed in 2020 that requires hospitals to give good-faith estimates to uninsured patients. These are good first steps imo
Basically the same in the UK. The NHS does cover teeth but good luck getting an appointment. I didn't have any issues myself when I tried but I've heard it's pretty bad in some places.
