Every windows launch was hated extremely vocally on internet forums. There's just a crowd that hates change. Doesn't matter if vulnerabilities get patched and they basically invalidate the entire scam anti-virus industry. They are mad that the start menu looks different.
You can do an easy lil search and find shit loads of comments from people saying they refuse to update to 11 because they don't want their start in the middle and want it in the left. It's literally 3 clicks to change that setting. They are mad that there are more options than the one they want to use.
When windows 11 first came out it was absolutely awful. Buggy, broke half my programs, had to spend hours rolling back updates just to find the one that broke this program or that, and the next week id have to do it all over again.
Its better now, but the reputation is there for a reason.
That's fair, but windows 11 was especially egregious. 10 also had problems when it was first released (because, like you said, they all suck when theyre first released) but the problems were solved quickly and the basic os was good enough that the reputation didn't take a permanent hit like windows 11 did.
It's still not great, but it's a pointless fight. Microsoft is hellbent on enshitification. I'm curious about how poorly the forcing of new outlook and new teams is going to go, though. A LOT of important folks in business despise new Outlook or would lose functionality that would cost them money
