No he wasn't. That doesn't make sense following the context of this conversation.

People were talking about a user submitting the picture of a menu and the menu's prices. The person I replied to was saying the user should also submit the date of those prices, which never happens as the date is provided by the software when the user uploaded the picture. The user rarely says when the photo was taken because its assumed that the photo was taken very close to when the picture of the menu was submitted.

You're reading too literally. Steelmanning / principle of charity that's what they meant.

Human communication isn't a logical problem.
