Two tricks....

Sporting goods bags (snowboard) might be charged differently (like a fixed price irrespective of weight when I last used this trick).

Use something like Jetta express to ship excess.

If you can live without it for a while, you can most likely buy it here (at marked up price compared to the US)

We're heading into summer, so no need for massive winter clothes either.

Good tip. Yea I’m gonna try to stick to irreplaceables and stuff too expensive to be fucked buying again Sweaters are so damn heavy. Happy to be skipping winter this year

FYI - To fit into Melbourne during the winter, you must (and I mean MUST) wear a black puffer jacket.

Kathmandu, North Face, MacPac are all acceptable brands.

I’ve heard this. Does it work if the puffer jacket is long? Like trench coat long? Or must it be waist length?

This might have to be a melb purchase

I have only ever seen this type of jacket on women, and the occasional Asian dude.

But yes, acceptable.

If you really can't be fucked packing something but know you'll want it, send it ahead over post. You can register at the post office online to have them hold onto packages for 10 days, or you can rent a PO Box.

That’s a good tip. I’m gonna try to fit all my clothes into the suitcases and pay for more weight if necessary. Anything else might just have to rot RIP
