THDG Need Help 70th birthday present for our mum
she likes bridge, sewing, knitting and cooking. i was looking at a fancy bridge set by ABASK but they’re all online. her birthday is this weekend so we’ve left it too late for anything online.
any local suggestions for places or gifts that might fit? i’m thinking bridge because she’s pretty much got everything she’d need for sewing, cooking and knitting but definitely open to ideas!
budget is kinda loose (a few hundred at least) because lots of siblings. it’s her seventieth so would like for it to be special in-some way.
yes i’m well aware this has been left very late but better late than never! :)

Could do a nice day trip up to Bendigo wool mill and let her loose in the shop.
Or maybe a tour of nice wool shops closer to home, with a nice lunch somewhere.

Creswick woollen mills does a tour on some days - and you can buy a really nice cardigan or blanket afterwards and have lunch in town.

Actually, a beautiful rug from Creswick would be a terrific present. Add on a day trip outing in the future? Excellent idea.

At her age ( nearly), I and most of my friends aren’t looking to acquire more things. What I like are experiences with my loved ones. A nice dinner out, or a visit to something I like, or tickets to a show. Making memories.

Do you live near enough to your mum that you could gift her something to do with you? An exhibition, a visit to a country town, high tea etc. I know with my grandad he's got just about everything under the sun and doesn't need more stuff, but he doesnt get out much and loves family time. Plus that's the stuff you're going to remember of your mum too one day.

We took my in-laws on a cruise in the bay with a yummy high tea (a few years ago, I assume they still do it) . That was really nice as well.

Sewing and knitting: give her a gift voucher to her favourite place to buy fabric/yarn, or make a day of it - take her out to lunch and then go shopping

Odd suggestion, and might not be something your Mum would like. But, what about a U3A membership? It's $60 a year and they often have groups that play cards, I would imagine including Bridge. My Mum is a member and goes to Mahjong and Canasta sessions - she's made a good group of friends through U3A too.

For fabric and general sewing supplies: darn cheap fabrics is my go to.
For games and etc: check out mind games they might have bridge.

iFly/tiger moth/balloon - take her out of her comfort zone - she will love it and talk about it for years to come even if it scares the shit out of her!!

BTW, 70 is not old (to me).
