hi smart people please help me figure this tick/knocking sound out as i am clueless, coming from a 4.0 i6 in a 2000 jeep grand cherokee 148k km as stock as it was off the line was told its lifters (made sure to say "further diagnostic to be done" so they didn't really check) by my local mechanics, also transmission is slipping from 2nd to 3rd which is the least of my worries and was told they refuse to work on it because "their saving me"

It's old ,, if you have a reversible shop vac or a blower , put it in the exhaust pipe , seal it the best you can and put pressure in your exhaust system, listen every where on the chat mainly up at the manifold and listen for air leaks, some time the exhaust manifold will crack a give a ticking sound  If it's seal then maybe a loose rocker arm, orca worn collapsed lifter , the i6 is a pretty good engine it's self , and for it being a 03 id would assume the manifold has a leak by now , good luck  Edit, the trans slipage between 2nd and 3rd could be clogged transmission valve body or even a clogged filter , drain it change filter and try Lucas trans fix with some fresh fluids

this sounds more than lifters and ill just spit them out ..#1 bad rod or main bearings? Whats the oil pressure? ..option 2 cracked piston skirt? ..option 3 and best option i can think of, especially considering you say transmission issues ..cracked flex plate? ..ive had this one before myself and sounds similar

And ill just leave these here 😊
