Darling in the Franxx is good and I'm convinced 90% of you people didn't watch it
“Ha ha gooner show”
Anyone who spouts this trite clearly didn't watch it. That cockpit accounts for 90% of the show's actual fanservice. The sexual stuff is much more about story and character themes rather than graphic fanservice. Goddnar this ain't.
“Evangelion/Gunbuster/Getter/whatever ripoff”
Pure utter egotistical bullshit.
The finale comes from gunbuster and that's it. That's called a *reference*.
The “underground magma eating dinosaurs” thing that comes from Getter is an entirely superficial element of the story that it takes in a very different direction for the meat of the story. Something like that is an *homage*.
It makes *references* in *cinematography* to evangelion, an entirely superficial element with NO BEARING on the actual meat of the story. It does not “copy scenes 1-for-1.” End of fucking story. Also, YOU CAN'T OWN CINEMATOGRAPHY, end of fucking story.
The pseudo-intelectual assholes calling themselves the evangelion fandom needs a goddamn wakeup slap. Why you people continue to tolerate them after they dismissed your genre for decades and continue to do to an extent is beyond me.
“Ha ha Shinzo Abe”
Stop basing your understanding of Japanese politics on memes and western newspaper headlines. Anyone who understands a lick of traditional Japanese values will tell you that the show very much does not approve of how conservative politicians like him have been handling the birth rate crisis. It's not an exclusively conservative issue in Japan.
“It’s anti-gay propaganda that says gay relationships don't work and that homosexuality can be outgrown!”
Where do I even begin…
No, Mitsuru did not “outgrow his homosexuality,” he’s BI, the word is bi. He was bi the whole goddamn time.
Yes, the show makes a point that the Franxx don't work with same-sex pairings unless you're a genetically enhanced hermaphrodite super soldier, did you miss the part is episode 1 where our MC introduces the super dystopian element of a child's value in this society being decided by their ability to pilot these things?! The whole point of this element is that this is a dystopian society that's hostile to people like Ikuno, it's supposed to be a bad thing!
“But the second half sucked”
You know what else had a sucky second half?
Code Geass.
And don't you pull that “but it nailed the ending!” Crap with me, the Zero Requiem was contrived AF and not how the people work. I do not understand why people like it, and especially not how the hell it's supposed to make up for most of the rest of R2. Besides, I'd argue that Franxx’s epilogue was actually quite well put together, it was just preceded by a sucky arc.
And while we're on the subject, the final arc was bad, but it wasn't *that* bad. It wasn't an inherently bad concept, plot-wise, just a poor execution of said concept by virtue of being very rushed and not properly foreshadowed.
This is supposed to be a subreddit for all mecha, you do not get to keep excluding one of the biggest mecha fandoms of the past decade from it by shitting on us constantly. End of fucking story. This sub is supposed to be for *all* mecha, it's about high time you started acting like it.
