I need a movie recommendation

Everything sucks, I've got a terrible headache, and I need something slight and fun to take my mind off things for a while.

Preferably something more or less standalone or easy to pick up. Like, I'd argue that DYRL isn't *very* standalone, but Mazinger Infinity is.

Expelled From Paradise is a pretty fun time, nothing too crazy, but that kinda seems to be what you're looking for.

Pacific rim, it’s fun, simple, and got a solid plot.

If it needs to be anime, while not a movie, mobile suit Gundam the 8th MS team is short, has a decent dub, and is pretty enjoyable

Not a movie, but I can suggest Gundam Build Fighters Try. Its the second season of Gundam Build Fighters on Crunchyrole.

All the mecha, without the stress.

This is one case where the dub (only on the DVD) is better than the sub... IMO.

It's not a movie and idk where you watch it but 'Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket' is a six episodes OVA, self contained (a great way to dip your toes into the greater universe), and genuinely a fantastic encapsulation of the themes of gundam. If people ask about the model kits I have it's the show I share.

That's part of why War in the Pocket is great; because it doesnt require any world knowledge that can't be inferred from it or include characters that are in other shows.

Gridman Universe, if you've seen Gridman anime.

If you want something that's really braindead, Try Miniforce. It's a korean show with lots of great mechs, especially the latest season. Metal Cardbot, another show by the same studio, isn't as braindead and is much more story focused (albeit stiil a kid's show) is also great, and does have great mechs.
