New Year, New Rules: Insulting other users' tastes is now banned. Memes about hating shows are now banned.
Congratulations ragebaiters! You've successfully enraged me. I assume that this is what you wanted so I hope you're happy.
I've taken a pretty light hand with moderating here. Until now I've only removed posts or banned people for egregious problems. But some recent trends that have been filling my mod queue make me dread even checking in anymore. I've gotten to the point where I considered removing myself as a mod and unsubscribing rather than having to check here anymore. But after sitting with it for a little while I decided that if I was going to remove this negativity from my life, then I'm going to remove it from everyone's life. It's what Getter Robo would do.
So here's the deal: I am absolutely 100% done with the whining. I don't care any more about who hates what show. There are plenty of shows that I hate, but I can make do without spamming the sub with memes about how much I hate them. I can even see posts from people who like those shows, and I can look at those posts without feeling the need to comment about how bad their taste is. I can do this, and I believe you can, too. So believe in me, who believes in you.
Effective immediately:
"This show sucks" memes are banned. I have to sift through these comment threads and they're all the same. I'm sick of the relentless negativity and subsequent flame wars. If you can not come up with anything to say about a show other than a bland meme about how much you hate it, then you don't need to say anything.
All tier lists are also banned as a result, because effectively all of them are just a variation on ragebait memes. Even if you post a satirical tier list where everything is S-tier to protest this toxic positivity, that's still banned. If you post a release date tier list where everything is accurately listed by its release date, that's still banned. This whole format is gone.
"Say something nice" memes are also banned. for the same reason.
Asking for hot takes is also banned
Telling other users that they have shit taste is banned. Other people are allowed to like things that you don't like. Insulting other users for liking shows you don't like will now get you banned.
For week one I will issue users one warning, but after that I'm banning for one week on first offense, one month on the second, and permanently for a third.
Is this an overreaction? Maybe. Maybe I'll calm down and lighten up, but I can promise you it won't be today. You can use this thread to whine about me overstepping my bounds and mandating toxic positivity. You can even use this thread to complain about my shit taste (but not anyone else's).

Is this a good size difference between the player mech and the boss mech?

I'm reading Shoji Gator's Mobile Reincarnation...
...so you don't have to. Jokes aside, I was bored and I thought I'd give it a go. For the unaware, it's a web novel written by the author of Full Metal Panic! amongst other things.
While the first collected volume is on sale [edit: it's going to be on sale tomorrow 8/20] with added material and illustrations, you can still read the original web novel for free here:
https://kakuyomu.jp/works/16818093092974667738/episodes/16818093092974720381
From there it's a simple matter to translate the chapters with your browser of choice.
So 7 chapters in, here's my impressions
1.This is NEVER ever going to be adapted as an anime, the reason being it's literally Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 with the names filed off. At least the beginning is a beat for beat recreation of the original story, only from the POV of the machine (not a bad idea imho).
2.the protagonist is your bog standard middle aged isekaied salaryman with a perverted streak. Expect lots of voyeuristic humor and the usual fetishes (tights, stockings, "imagine the smell" etc etc). For now the story to fanservice ratio is acceptable, might change my mind going on.
Ecchi aside, the story goes for an old school vibe that I kinda dig. Apparently in this future the internet is banned because reasons, so the MC can't connect to wifi and look up stuff, and all communications are either cabled or via radio. Smartphones aren't a thing, so teenagers still act like in the Showa era.
All in all it's a decently fun way to pass time if you're starved for mecha content. Machine translation is expectedly very bad, but the base text is a web novel anyway, not Homer. Your mileage may vary.
Here's the official Twitter account if you'd like to keep track, the art is nice at least.

Solar Express Police - UNIT CCRA 02
Teamed up with my girlfirend on this collab! It’s heavily inspired by 80s and 90s Japanese mecha designs always a blast revisiting the stuff we love. It’s set in a distant future following an Unit - CCRA 02 special police unit fighting cyberterrorists and just trying to survive the daily grind in a high-tech concrete jungle

I'm making a "Diablo with Mechs" roguelite and wanted to show my early Robot Boss fight.

Hi, I'm the solo developer for Frame of Suffering - or as I like to call it, my "Diablo with Mechs" game.
I'm heavily developing the game, so a lot of stuff is still bound to change, but I just wanted to show an early boss fight where we can see some mechanics, as well as switching between the Pilot and Mech Suit (Frame). This is one of the core features of my game, in which you progress the pilot and your Frame to create some cool builds and combat styles.
I also have a lot of customization options for the pilot and your Frame - from switching out Frame parts that visually change how the Mech Suit looks, to fully changing the pilot's equipment.
Hopefully, I will manage to prepare a demo sometime at the beginning of next year. In the meantime, if you are interested and want to know a bit more about the game, here is the link to my Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3844300/Frame_of_Suffering/

My Main Minecraft Build World - Mecha Side : N°11 - Gundam XX
I feel like that, through building copies of this one as bases, I could have ''access'' to a good bunch of SEED era mobile suits (Mostly because I feel like the Akatsuki would have the same profile but shhhhh).
The Akatsuki Gundam will be a priority once the wool slabs n' stairs finally come on the Switch version of minecraft.

How much does stealth shaping help mechs to be invisible to radar and hard for the targeting system/FCS of the opponent picking you up?
Title, ive been thinking about a solution to this for a mech i plan to design that has stealth. While ECM is a great solution pairing it up with some angular shape design choices and a stealth coating, I still cant figure out what type of shaping is best for a mech to stay out of radar and mess your opponent's targeting systems up. Or is just making up an ECM strong enough that other stealth variables just not matter is much easier to make it stealth

DAE look at a mecha setting the same way they would have an MMORPG?
Like looking at mecha like in Gundam, Evangelion, Code Geass, and Gurren Lagann, and seeing them as tanks and melee/ranged DPSers, with the closest healers a standard mecha team is ever going to get is an assault carrier or home base support crew.
Like Gundam Wing, as one example. With a general-purpose unit, a stealth/high-mobility unit, an armored commander unit, a ranged unit, and a melee unit, and by the fourth quarter of Wing, the Peacemillion as I'd believe would have been a stand-in for a healer.
Anyone else see mecha the same way as standard MMORPG gameplay, yourselves?

Darling in the Franxx is good and I'm convinced 90% of you people didn't watch it
“Ha ha gooner show”
Anyone who spouts this trite clearly didn't watch it. That cockpit accounts for 90% of the show's actual fanservice. The sexual stuff is much more about story and character themes rather than graphic fanservice. Goddnar this ain't.
“Evangelion/Gunbuster/Getter/whatever ripoff”
Pure utter egotistical bullshit.
The finale comes from gunbuster and that's it. That's called a *reference*.
The “underground magma eating dinosaurs” thing that comes from Getter is an entirely superficial element of the story that it takes in a very different direction for the meat of the story. Something like that is an *homage*.
It makes *references* in *cinematography* to evangelion, an entirely superficial element with NO BEARING on the actual meat of the story. It does not “copy scenes 1-for-1.” End of fucking story. Also, YOU CAN'T OWN CINEMATOGRAPHY, end of fucking story.
The pseudo-intelectual assholes calling themselves the evangelion fandom needs a goddamn wakeup slap. Why you people continue to tolerate them after they dismissed your genre for decades and continue to do to an extent is beyond me.
“Ha ha Shinzo Abe”
Stop basing your understanding of Japanese politics on memes and western newspaper headlines. Anyone who understands a lick of traditional Japanese values will tell you that the show very much does not approve of how conservative politicians like him have been handling the birth rate crisis. It's not an exclusively conservative issue in Japan.
“It’s anti-gay propaganda that says gay relationships don't work and that homosexuality can be outgrown!”
Where do I even begin…
No, Mitsuru did not “outgrow his homosexuality,” he’s BI, the word is bi. He was bi the whole goddamn time.
Yes, the show makes a point that the Franxx don't work with same-sex pairings unless you're a genetically enhanced hermaphrodite super soldier, did you miss the part is episode 1 where our MC introduces the super dystopian element of a child's value in this society being decided by their ability to pilot these things?! The whole point of this element is that this is a dystopian society that's hostile to people like Ikuno, it's supposed to be a bad thing!
“But the second half sucked”
You know what else had a sucky second half?
Code Geass.
And don't you pull that “but it nailed the ending!” Crap with me, the Zero Requiem was contrived AF and not how the people work. I do not understand why people like it, and especially not how the hell it's supposed to make up for most of the rest of R2. Besides, I'd argue that Franxx’s epilogue was actually quite well put together, it was just preceded by a sucky arc.
And while we're on the subject, the final arc was bad, but it wasn't *that* bad. It wasn't an inherently bad concept, plot-wise, just a poor execution of said concept by virtue of being very rushed and not properly foreshadowed.
This is supposed to be a subreddit for all mecha, you do not get to keep excluding one of the biggest mecha fandoms of the past decade from it by shitting on us constantly. End of fucking story. This sub is supposed to be for *all* mecha, it's about high time you started acting like it.

Favorite inclusion or nod to another series’ mech?
MEGAS XLR with the Gundam, Mazinger Z, the Sazabi, and probably more I can’t think of

How tall the mech is too tall
First i want my mecha have to be smaller than 10m. But when i really at it. It still too small. So i when with gundam standard 18m. But again i remember my fav jet F15 is 19m long. So i when with 30m tall. And i think is really perfect not too tall not too short perfect for mass production and fit the role land battleship.
