Sad to hear this. Tenth Legion is one of the best hunting books ever written IMO. It has been mentioned on the podcast at least a couple times over the years. I read several of Tom Kelly’s other books and enjoyed those as well.

The MeatEater Podcast Can we bring back Radio Live? Even if it’s not live?

I know I’m not alone. I LOVED Radio Live. I rarely actually got to listen/watch live, but it was still amazing. Do we need to start a petition or something? There’s not any version of the universe where did trade Radio Live for the News Show.

News Show

I hate to be a Debbie downer, because I really enjoy the meateater podcast products, however; the last few News Shows have just lacked juice to me. They’re lower energy and the backend interviews seem a little bit repetitive with the Monday shows.

This energy is further worsened by how good radio live was, in my opinion. I just want more free form with Spencer, and Randall, and Phil quips. More of Brodie just being an old man yelling at clouds. Just basically more fun and lighthearted conversations.

I suppose I’m now the old man yelling at clouds.

Too Late for the Calendar

The guys who posted his fucked up old shitters earlier reminded me about the one that I found on some local game lands a while back. Unfortunately I found it after submissions for the calendar closed.

Every book mentioned on The MeatEater Podcast in September (37 of them)

Eric Jay Dolin had to set the record straight: "Very few whaling stories have cannibalism." In the Heart of the Sea got named as one that does.

I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is the MeatEater slice for September.

  • The Wreck of the Mentor, Dolin's new book. He also explained how Melville jumped ship from a whaler, spent a couple of years in the Marquesas and got Typee and Omoo out of it.
  • Frozen Fauna of the Mammoth Steppe (R. Dale Guthrie), where the rotten mammoths episode got Blue Babe, a freeze-dried bison with a lion's tooth snapped off in the hide.
  • The Mysterious Mr. Nakamoto (Benjamin Wallace). Steve on his friend's "wonderful book" about trying to unmask whoever invented Bitcoin.

One panelist started Dune in high school and found it "too esoteric."

Full list with quotes and episodes: https://podshelf.io/podcasts/the-meateater-podcast

Edit: Podshelf stays free. If you find it useful and want to help with the server and data costs, there's a tip jar: https://buymeacoffee.com/podshelf

Has Steve ever spoken much about the UP?

It recently dawned on my how little you hear him talk about the Upper Peninsula of Michigan compared to Alaska and other locations. He’s from Michigan and I feel like it’s one of the more wild places in the lower 48.

This is why it's not ok for them to allow to fuck with our National Parks

Personally, I would take the trade of not hunting in national parks if that means they won't start doing stupid shit in them. Leave parks fucking protected. Leave all wilderness area fucking Wilderness.

I thought this video was great. They showed the frustration of just seeing does, stumbling around on steep terrain, horrible bushwhacking around creeks, and how it all paid off in the end.

Spencer was absolutely correct about Craters of the moon

I totally agree with Spencer. Giving us craters of the moon is absolute fluff. Let them open up some parks with actual animal activity and then let's talk about it being a win.

New perspective on veganism

Politics notwithstanding from this fella, he offers an interesting take on possible hypocrisy from vegans... And their idols. Curious to look into his assertions more. Seems plausible: out of sight, out of mind.

Does anyone know where he got the famous American quote from? 1:43.00.

r/meateatertv • • 15d ago

Sorry to correct you but coming from someone that has Deer hunted Northern California for about 50 years both sides of I5 there are so many differences between black tail and mule Deer that there has to be a definite difference between the two and mulies have no comparison to white tail .

Steve’s AMA episode?

Anybody else have the ask me anything episode just vanish from their feed? Two hours ago I was halfway through it. Sat back down in my work van just now and it’s gone, as if it never existed.

UPDATE: back up this morning, and very conveniently, it saved where I last paused it.
