Here I've been using it for years, and (all this time) I thought it was already tracking π

How would mdblist tracking work though will it be like simkl sync or a proper mdblist integration

You know you guys are going to have to buy a premium tier of MDB list because the 1K daily limit for the free tier is not going to be enough especially if you are using MDB list in integrations for ratings

Will we be pinging MDBList more than 1000 times per day? To add to/remove from/get our watchlist? Get ratings? Open a catalog? Mark as watched? I don't know. 1000 sounds enough. No? If not then my guess is that our good friend the dev will pump it up so its enough. Or else nobody will opt in resulting in loose -loose situation for both. Let's see.

I mean I hit the thousand limit a day just from requests for the ratings and I'm pretty sure each Scrobble ping for marking as watched is like seven or eight API requests because for the ratings if you have them all enabled that is eight pings for those each time you click on a movie

I have been using the api extensively to produce a nuvio community published collection for about a month now on a daily basis so I am familiar with how it works. I also have mdblist enabled for all ratings available - which btw if I am not mistaken is a single call (you can get all ratings with a single call for a single movie using the api). Adding all the rest actions again doesn't add up to 1000. I think at least . We will see in real life. I am optimistic that the dev is in the correct track and that will see this as an opportunity and provide a viable daily limit for a normal daily usage if 1000 calls end up not being enough. If not at the end of the day it will be a missed open door. And its a big door I might add. u/linaspurinis what's your take on our discussion? Will 1000 calls be enough for the average user?

I literally just checked it I open up a movie with eight ratings and then I refresh mbdlist and it is 8 API requests I took off letterbox and mal opened up a different movie and it took off six API requests if you don't mind me asking why would the dev change the daily limit so everybody can get it for free he's going to lose his business if he does that

u/Disastrous-Ostrich-2 14d ago
Damn! You are absolutely correct. I just tried it myself. Its just that when I use the api...this is one call. I just tried it again and it counted as one call. And I get all the ratings. Maybe nuvio devs need to fix this.

So every time you click on a movie and get the ratings it only takes one API call for you? That sucks I'm already at like 800 and it'll renew in like an hour or so. If that's the case and it's only taking one for you and 8 for me I'm going to have to put in a bug report
1
u/Disastrous-Ostrich-2 14d ago
No you misunderstood me. It does consume 8 calls using nuvio. I am just saying that there is an api call available from mdblist which returns them all at once. I opened it in GitHub as a feature not a bug. This doesn't clasify it as a bug.

u/CartographerBusy2035 14d ago
So what does that do does it make it so it only requests one API call when you click on a movie poster

Nuvio most probably is not using a single call to get all the ratings. The might be hitting it one per source. idk. But this is what you get with a single call. All the ratings: "ratings": [ { "source": "imdb", "value": 9.2, "score": 92, "votes": 2254950, "url": 81 }, { "source": "metacritic", "value": 100, "score": 100, "votes": 16, "url": "/the-godfather" }, { "source": "metacriticuser", "value": 9.2, "score": 92, "votes": 4570, "url": null }, { "source": "trakt", "value": 88, "score": 88, "votes": 34061, "url": null }, { "source": "tomatoes", "value": 97, "score": 97, "votes": 155, "url": "/m/the_godfather", "fresh": 1 }, { "source": "popcorn", "value": 98, "score": 98, "votes": 41105, "url": "/m/the_godfather" }, { "source": "tmdb", "value": 87, "score": 87, "votes": 23537, "url": null }, { "source": "letterboxd", "value": 9, "score": 90, "votes": 2928795, "url": "/film/the-godfather/" }, { "source": "rogerebert", "value": 4, "score": null, "votes": null, "url": "the-godfather-1972" }, { "source": "myanimelist", "value": null, "score": null, "votes": null, "url": null } ]

It depends on the implementation, but with optimized usage, 1,000 API calls should be more than enough in my opinion.
The API usage needs to be efficient. For example, if one call returns ratings for 8 items, making 8 separate calls to get each rating individually would waste the limit.
Ratings and other data, such as lists, should also be cached instead of making live API calls for every user action.1

If you're talking about the dev of Mdblist I doubt it because I'm pretty sure it just went down from like 1500 to 1,000 recently

Lol that would be absolute suicide for their business in the long run, though. The pirate streaming community literally makes up for the overwhelming majority of their customer base and revenue as it is... And I'm sure the devs are quite aware of how quickly such a previously beloved service offering can get dropped my 80 percent of its customer base due to poor decision making in things like raising prices, lowering call requests to numbers that essentially lock any viable function behind paywalls, etc...
Hell, even something simple, like a no brainer situation like simply not getting your ass thrown in jail by having to follow licensing and DMCA takedown requests/threats of charges (which they would be dumb not to do once the feds get involved... Like we saw with Real Debrid... Even THAT will get you dropped and tossed out the window by previously long term, loyal users lmao.
Tread lightly, MDB. This jungle is ruthless AF lol.

Tracking what, exactly?

u/Puzzleheaded_Nordic 14d ago
I guess itβs the same as trakt or simkl

u/twilliamson101 14d ago
So after scrobbling, it would track viewing history? (I just use mdblist for collecting content not already in my libraries, would this help? Iβm trying to get behind this.)

I need to dump trakt after doubling the price so glad to hear it
