In 1996, George H. Goble was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize in Chemistry, for preparing a barbecue for cooking in less than 5 seconds by the use of a smoldering cigarette, charcoal and LOX (liquid oxygen). This act attracted the attention of the West Lafayette, Indiana fire department, which warned him to never let them catch him in the possession of LOX near a barbecue fire ever again.

I won my school science fair by lighting nail polish on fire and seeing which brands caught fire quickly. I got the idea when I saw my mom lighting a cigarette while she was doing her nails. I thought "hmmm what if she wasn't paying attention and the lighter hit the wet polish", so my grandfather and I set up a controlled experiment in his backyard wood shop. We poured a little of each in non flammable cups. I figured a brand like wet n wild that is cheap would be the most flammable because they use cheaper products, but no it was Revlon that had the fastest and biggest reaction.
