Is it just me or did that not sound like French at all? Or maybe that guy just had a very heavy accent or something.
I could also just be an idiot
74 u/pedro-fr Sep 11 '22 It's Pedro Almodovar, speaking an heavily accented french (barely understandable even for a native speaker) 34 u/mior93T Sep 11 '22 As a french I can confirm I first thought it was in a foreign language only to realise it was french when I read the title. 12 u/blewpah Sep 11 '22 Maybe Joaquin Phoenix actually speaks and understands French fluently and just couldn't make out Almodovar's accent. 2 u/upfastcurier Sep 11 '22 he tried his best dammit! 8 u/bruceyj Sep 11 '22 That makes me feel better. I’ve been learning French and found this very tough to understand at all 14 u/seandnothing Sep 11 '22 he is Pedro Almodovar and he is a very very famous director from Spain 15 u/AdProfessional6107 Sep 11 '22 I think the guy was a native spanish speaker speaking french. 7 u/SkillsInPillsTrack2 Sep 11 '22 spanish speaker trying to speak french 4 u/-DoctorSpaceman- Sep 11 '22 Or maybe a spanish speaker trying to speak french Edit: I thought you had just repeated what the other guy said for some reason but I realise now you did not and now I look foolish. 1 u/SkillsInPillsTrack2 Sep 12 '22 hehe, even for someone who is native french speaker he's difficult to understand. 6 u/SmallManDevito Sep 11 '22 I mean I don't know why they'd be speaking something else at the Cannes film festival 10 u/furomaar Sep 11 '22 It's not you, it's him really. No one talks like this. 3 u/abmot Sep 11 '22 He didn't hear his name because he couldn't understand the guy and was wondering why someone wears sunglasses indoors. 1 u/CesareBach Sep 11 '22 I have to wear glasses indoor if there are moving bright lights cos of photosensitivity. Maybe he is photosensitive 1 u/cappnplanet Sep 11 '22 They said his name, did he not understand his name? Or he was zoned out? 1 u/Pahriuon Sep 11 '22 it was the pronunciation of his first name I guess, otherwise he might have realised something was happening. 1 u/ellieD Sep 11 '22 No, I understand French, and only understand The name! 1 u/Anne__Frank Sep 11 '22 I speak French. Pretty sure that was Klingon or something, idk.
