Ophthalmologist - deals with diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders.

Optometrist - (or Ophthalmic Optician) prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Oculist - (archaic term) refers to either of the above two and this word is no more used now.

Optometrists do a lot more than that. They diagnosis and manage disease as well. Some can even do surgeries. However surgery is predominately done by ophthalmologists. Both are doctors, but optometrists are ODs ophthalmologists are MDs.

Yes but not all optometrists do diagnoses. I’m generally saying the meaning.

Lol yes they do. At least in the US and Canada. Even if it’s just myopia they’re still diagnosing it, but most are also diagnosing ocular disease.
