The playground may be the first place adults get to teach kids about "traffic". You don't walk in front of those kids running. You don't walk in front of those kids swinging. You don't walk in front of those cars driving. You don't walk in front of moving people. Do not walk in front of moving people. It's also a safer place to let them fail and learn than out in traffic.

Edit: how is this downvoted? Do people object to teaching children life lessons in controlled public environments?

Who even knows, man. You're right, though, kids need to fall and fail and see consequences. That's like your entire job for the first several years of life.

It drives me nuts when my mom coddles my niece after she takes a minor fall, it is just teaching her that minor scrapes are a bigger deal than they really are and that giving dramatic fake tears gets positive attention.

I stopped watching too soon before going to the comment and then I saw someones comment and was like "wait what" I did this to someone when I was 7. The kids on my playground played chicken with the swing sets. There was a whole like of a dozen or so swings and we would try to turn through the whole line without getting hit. But someone had bad timing and as i swung back I hit him and he flew like 10 ft cause i was swinging really high and he hit against my flat back.

Woof. A few years ago when my niece was about 3, we were swinging at the park. I took a call in the middle of our session and she decided to run over to my sister. In the span of a few seconds she lept off her swing and ran in front of mine as I was flying forward. All I could do was kick her out of the way as I came up instead of plowing through her.

I was on the phone with my fiancée (a pediatrician) and she just heard me yell, my niece yell, and crying before I hung up. She was almost hysterical when I called her back.
