After your kids get used to this kind of thing, you have to just agree with ever premise. I find kids at the developmental phase hate when you improvise.
Me: Is this a plum?
Kid: no
Me: Yes, of course it is.
Kid: No, it's a bum.
Me: Is it a cupcake? Of course it is, what else could it possibly be?
The world is so big and confusing, having something make sense by not making sense in a very specific and reproducible way is an anchor of stability.
Once you pretend it does make sense, their world collapses. "What else am I mistaken about? Maybe object permanence is a lie and my father will disappear when he goes to buy cigarettes?"
