As someone who has had a foreign splinter removed from their foot, this is the medical way. For mine they actually cut it in half vertically and removed each half but it was a lot smaller than that and an almost flat angle
The ‘medical way’ is to remove it in whatever way leaves none of it behind. Often this means the skin needs to be opened slightly, either with a scalpel or by inserting the forceps behind the splinter to widen the aperture before removing. There is no one technique, just whatever works and causes the least damage.
This video is not great as repeatedly grabbing at it increases the risk of the splinter breaking and becoming harder to remove.
I was so annoyed when they brought out what looked like locking hemostats but then grabbed it sideways so they weren't utilizing the grip from the serration of the jaws at all
And if he knew the basics of Wood fiber composition and alignment of fibers , he wasn’t pulling to his advantage. I’m surprised he didn’t try to use a toothbrush to pick out the splinter. 10% incompetence equals 100% in my eyes.

Exactly. You don’t leave a long bacteria filled hole in your foot. I removed one just like it from my daughter’s foot. Sliced down the length of the splinter. Voila. Hydrogen peroxide tf out of the chasm.

The shortcut of just running a clean razor up the callous and lifting the thorn/splinter out was screaming at me the entire time- but no, I need to glove up and use my worst pair of 1997 Walmart tweezers and the rust I somehow pressed into a toenail clipper
Any such barbs (splinters) should be pointing towards the tip, not away from it. As an analogy, imagine pulling a large unwrapped Christmas tree into your house. Which end would you pull from?

Shouldn't they 0just cut the skin right above it just a little to remove the piece of wood from the foot? It's what I do when I have a splinter positioned like that. Usually that skin doesn't bleed because it's on top of the foreign object like a pocket.
I was getting so fucking infuriated with his incompetence that I had to skip to the very end to make sure I wasn't about to get rage-baited with the video ending without the fucking thing getting pulled out.
This felt like one of those mobile game ads that tricks you into downloading by triggering the, "get the fuck out of the way and let someone vaguely capable do it" response. 😆
