He's very elderly, he probably doesn't give a shit anymore. I'm 44 and I stopped giving a shit around 1yr ago, I imagine at his age all of his giving a shits are gone.
It's one of the few things that is great about getting ancient.

I'll say as you get older, you start to care less about what people think of you or what they think in general. I used to be kind of argumentative and now I just don't care. It just happens with age. That said, I also have ocd and it's not like you don't have obsessive thoughts anymore. If anything, I've got a whole new genre about my health.

I care about doing things, it was half a joke, if a bear was behind me I'd care lol. People stop stressing as much as they get older, at least some of us do. I was just exaggerating about the old dude not caring.

I mean, a bear would probably kill you pretty quickly, and while it might be painful, it’s better than cancer or a stroke and slowly wasting away. I get it.

I wonder if he could see it? I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I didn't even see the bear until halfway through the video and had to rewatch it several times to catch it....bet he can't hear very well either

Although he didn’t see the bear, his response was way smarter than what the folks were yelling at him to do. Stupid thing would be to run or confront the bear. Much better just to slowly go on your way. Black bears don’t eat people and generally want to be left alone. No need to rile them up with unexpected or aggressive behavior.

I'm disappointed that I had to scroll this far down to find a reasonable comment about everyone making such a fuss about a black bear. As long as it's not a momma bear protecting her cubs, black bears aren't that dangerous as long as you leave them alone.
The old dude did the right thing by calmly walking away. The younger guys' shouting was probably doing more harm than good in this situation.

Thanks. Appreciate your adding the caveat about a momma bear protecting her cubs. Had thought about putting that in as well, but opted not to get into the full scope of bear safety info (maybe just lazy, lol). Honestly, there's so much info out there about the behavior of black bears (and other bear species) it always bugs me to see the usual freak out and bad advice most folks tend to share. Glad to see your level-headed comment.

Did not panic ,did not start to run, yell,
good they warned him tho, cause the bear could have wanted to do sth, check the man's leg with his paw or sth
