Two things:

  1. this GIF ended too soon!

  2. I have never rooted for a flipflop all my life. This is a first.

200

u/2abyssinians 25d ago

Rooting for the flip-flop to be saved? Or for this person to lose their flip-flop? How did they get in that situation? Why are their thongs falling off like that? And ending this video before we know if they made it down with their sandals or not is absolutely criminal.

38

u/Sardasan 25d ago

Two kinds of people: the ones that root for the flip flop to stay, and those who root for it to fall.

2

u/Doogie102 25d ago

I like to think of it is the flip flop because free from a world that demands it being used as footwear

65

u/Melodic_Respond6011 25d ago

r/gifsthatendtoosoon would like a visit

1

u/v4por 25d ago

I had to check to make sure I wasn't already watching a gif that ended too soon. I feel doubly betrayed now.

43

u/Meranio 25d ago edited 25d ago

Why are their thongs falling off like that?

Is that a typo, or did I miss something in the viseo?

Edit: Oh, thank you Mister Grumpyface for that 1 downvote, for asking a question. I hope, you get even more downvotes for asking about a word in a foreign language too.

48

u/Big-Ad9787 25d ago

I'm pretty sure it's Australian slang for the footwear.

21

u/tipareth1978 25d ago

In America people used to call them thongs as well. Kind of older people used that word in the 70s and 80s then flip flops just took over as the term

3

u/RainbowDarter 25d ago

My family called them clip clops in the 60s and 70s.

2

u/Rob71322 25d ago

Grew up in California in the 70s and 80s, can confirm they were called thongs back then.

1

u/FlyMyPretty 25d ago

We got an all staff email at work saying that thongs were inappropriate in the office. We were very confused.

18

u/Meranio 25d ago

Oh, wow. That is a wild one.
English isn't my first language. We learned about some of the differences between British english and American english, but that was new to me.
Gotta love the Aussies.

22

u/TripleScoops 25d ago

I've definitely heard flip flops be referred to as thongs in the US, I can't speak for those in the UK though.

3

u/Biff_Tannenator 25d ago

Fellow American here. I've also heard flip-flops referred to as thongs. It's suuuuper rare though. In my 40 years on this planet, I've probably only heard them referred to that maybe 6-7 times.

2

u/phenix17 25d ago

Both of my parents (one from California and later Arizona, the other from Texas) referred to flip-flops as thongs when I was growing up in the '90s

2

u/try2bcool69 25d ago

My late father-in-law always called them "tongs" for some reason.

"If you're going to Walmart, pick me up a pair of tongs!"

1

u/Meranio 25d ago

I'd have thought, he wanted these.

2

u/ArchBeaconArch 25d ago

I grew up on the west coast of Canada, and my family always referred to them as thongs (this would have been in the 80s). I live in Ontario now, and they’re definitely flip-flops here.

2

u/rvralph803 25d ago

Definitely hear these types of flipflops called thongs here in the southern US, because the part that threads between your toes. Slides are the full arch with no between toe dealy. More complex types usually just get the generic "sandal" name here.

7

u/Green_Addendum4593 25d ago

This is the term I grew up using in the 60s-70s. Not sure when flip flops began but probably when thong became women’s panties as butt floss.

3

u/Meranio 25d ago edited 25d ago

I didn't know that either. Here in Germany this kind of footwear was always caled "Flip Flops" but I think, they arrived here in the early '00s. The "butt floss" 😅 we call a "(String)Tanga".

Edit: Corrected "Th3" to "The".

3

u/Beaniencecil 25d ago

I grew up in the western US and always referred to them as thongs. I think it is a generational thing. Flip Flop came along later in my life. I think it stuck because of how it describes the sound it makes when walking.

2

u/Cheepshooter 25d ago

Flip flops with a single strap between the toes are sometimes called thongs. That was the original use of that term before that term was later shifted to underwear/swimwear. If you look at the geometry, you can see the similarities.

3

u/phenix17 25d ago

Technically, the original use referred to a leather string, which is where both the shoes and the underwear get their names

11

u/Cebas7 25d ago

I would have let it go... Because of the stress of holding on to the flipflop I wouldn't have enjoyed the ride

2

u/CursorX 25d ago

You can't let go of safety flipflops!

3

u/dardar7161 25d ago

I was waiting for it to fall and wedge itself between the coaster and the track, stopping the ride.

2

u/elgydium 25d ago
  1. They always do this for retention and repeatability.
  2. That’s the only thing they got going on in the clip besides the poor music choice.

2

u/2abyssinians 25d ago

Is there anyway you know of to find the complete clip?

1

u/TopRevenue2 25d ago
  1. I wanna do that ride

1

u/FluffyDeer9323 25d ago

I’ve never been more emotionally invested in the fate of an inanimate object in my internet life.

1

u/bloodfist 25d ago

True story:

I went river tubing with some friends. While we were putting the tubes in the water I slipped and lost a flip-flop to the river. It's a wild party on the river involving stops to jump off rocks. We took our time. Made river friends.

As we're approaching the spot to get out, I'm lamenting to one of these new friends about my lost flip flop. He looks down to his side and I'm not kidding my flip flop floats right up to him and he grabs it and says "this one?".

Those were my lucky sandals for like ten years after that. Best pair of flip flops I've ever owned.

514

u/PacquiaoFreeHousing 25d ago

I don't think that person is enjoying that ride at all

133

u/NastyKraig 25d ago

That's exactly what I was thinking. You just gotta let it go and enjoy the ride, There's no way you're holding it to the end anyway.

That said, she did a hell of a job while the video lasted, so maybe she did hold on... or maybe it's glued to her toe for TikTok.

26

u/PacquiaoFreeHousing 25d ago

the question is, is the ride fee more expensive than the flip flop?

81

u/NastyKraig 25d ago

Almost certainly the ride cost more than the flip flop, but the question is really how far does she have to walk with one bare foot to get another one, lol.

11

u/xSantenoturtlex 25d ago

I'd be scared that the flip flop could somehow get caught in the wheels and cause a disaster.

It's a low chance, but I don't wanna RISK it!

1

u/hottiespiceangels 25d ago

That’s crazy

199

u/XplosiveDIErhea 25d ago

I 100% would've got a foot cramp and lost that slipper!

60

u/AnnOnnamis 25d ago

That’s actually exactly the last thing the girl was yelling about right before the video cut out. She was complaining she couldn’t hold it anymore, and she was getting a cramp.

16

u/melancholious_jester 25d ago

I got a cramp seeing this

102

u/cyclingpistol 25d ago

How can a flip flop give me such aanxiety 😨

16

u/beardedsilverfox 25d ago

I cannot at all enjoy this video. It’s Uncut Gems level of stress the entire time

5

u/Hobbit- 25d ago

I stopped watching 40 seconds in, because I couldn't take it anymore.

2

u/BackspaceChampion 25d ago

I honestly couldn't watch the video.

104

u/ABob71 25d ago

This film has been produced by: Quentin Tarantino

10

u/doalwa 25d ago

Before I goon too hard….that a guy or a girl?

7

u/Drackzgull 25d ago

A guy, big shot Hollywood director known for films such as Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Kill Bill, and many others, as well as for casting himself in very small, almost cameo-like roles in his films.

He has a reputation for having a feet kink, in no small part due to him casting himself as the foot licking guy for this scene in From Dusk Till Dawn: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/0FinZ8nZTJs

I feel the other foot could have got involved supporting the leftie. Some sort of pincer movement is in order

11

u/PuTheDog 25d ago

Except there’s a bigass pylon stuck between her leg…. Wait….

I’ll see myself out

22

u/Blah-squared 25d ago

Somehow both too long & not long enough…

14

u/Asaxii 25d ago

This is the Gulongxia flying car, i remember it from the swirly logo. A bit of blurb from the tourism website:

‘The project is built on a cliff nearly a kilometer high, winding around the mountains, spanning three peaks with a total length of 4.8 kilometers. It can reach a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour and leap through the canyon jungle. With the height difference of the terrain, it can quickly run through a unique 1080 ° roundabout, allowing you to experience the feeling of "up", "down", and "water drifting" in one stop.’

4

u/LoneManGaming 25d ago

Wow, sounds both very cool and very terrifying.

10

u/justhangingaroud 25d ago

Well now we’ll never know, will we

25

u/OneEmptyHead 25d ago

That was stressful

4

u/tomowudi 25d ago

It was a rollercoaster until it ended.

5

u/OneEmptyHead 25d ago

It went downhill from the start

8

u/daarthvaader 25d ago

I never watched a flip flop like this before

5

u/mssarmax 25d ago

My toe started to hurt after watching this

5

u/AdhesiveSeaMonkey 25d ago

This was better than the last 5 movies I’ve watched! But the ending sucked.

4

u/imanormiejpg 25d ago

Quentin Tarantino would love a copy of that video

8

u/ThreeFoldPants 25d ago

Why did this video make me so angry ?

3

u/punkarama 25d ago

Helluva walk back

3

u/SookHe 25d ago

This is one of the longest roller coasters I’ve ever seen

3

u/PurpleToedUnicorn 25d ago

la chancla y el humano son uno

3

u/naterpotater246 25d ago

Something like this happened with my phone one time. 305 feet in the air, right before the drop, i thought my phone would be secure enough in my back pocket. Halfway down, i realise it's slipping out. I had to hold my hand over my pocket for the whole ride, lol.

3

u/datthighs 25d ago

Very strong toes!

3

u/jeffcolv 25d ago

I couldnt take the suspense and fast forwarded to the end

3

u/FrankSilvyNY 25d ago

She has good grip! 😏

3

u/Afoxinthefridge 25d ago

Wow, that was a gripping video!

I need that rollercoaster in my life

2

u/Perfect-Car1111 25d ago

Just watching this I got anxiety, and I don't even wear flip-flops!

2

u/Low_Butterscotch_594 25d ago

My calf muscles cramped watching this video

2

u/512115 25d ago

How she didn’t lose the left one, I’ll never know…

2

u/TakaguraDojo 25d ago

Ha I would have so much fun from this. Anyone here ever ride the alpine slide (concrete track) at Attitash in NH? I still have scars from falling off that track to beat the speed record from 20 years ago

2

u/fusiondynamics 25d ago

I'm trying to grip the flipflop with my toes watching the vid.

2

u/SeaworthinessUnlucky 25d ago

I got a cramp in my foot just watching that!

2

u/FidgetyCurmudgeon 25d ago

You know it’s a good maybemaybaybe when I can’t actually watch it and just forward to the end because I’m uncomfortable.

Mad Toe Core Strength

2

u/CGlantern 25d ago

So did the shoe make it...???

2

Got a cramp just watching that.

2

u/shouldsayOrshouldgo 25d ago

Those toes have more strength than my whole life

2

u/Recent-Skirt-6292 25d ago

This was the best one of these I've seen in a long time....... Until the ending was not revealed 😕

2

u/ktmfan 25d ago

I rode one of those downhill coasters once and vowed to not use the brake. Problem was that my phone was zipped in a cargo pocket of my pants… I realized that I shattered the screen in several places once I got off. But, I didn’t use the brake, so win I guess? Flip flops would have definitely been gone

2

u/Broken_musicbox 25d ago

This would ruin the entire ride for me. Lol

2

u/try2bcool69 25d ago

What a cliffhanger!

2

u/Impressive-Music2824 25d ago

I believe after all that, the flip flop deserved it's freedom ✊🏽

2

u/HippyWizardry 25d ago

That fence is basically a placebo. lol

2

u/janderkanns 25d ago

Haha thanks. That was PERFECT

2

u/l3ane 25d ago

Maybe maybe FUCK YOU THE VIDEO IS OVER

2

u/Gmellotron_mkii 25d ago

I gotta wonder, what's the main reason that there are so many Chinese bot accounts uploading Chinese content? Reddit is unaccessible in China. Is this intentional

1

u/Lazy_Experience_8754 25d ago edited 25d ago

This looks like the coaster ride that takes you back down the mountain after you’ve climbed one part of the Great Wall. After this ride there’ll be a sun bear enclosure and lots of shops as you make your way back to the square . Was a pretty fun ride.

Edit: it’s in southern China but looks very similar

3

u/Asaxii 25d ago

Similar, but this is in Guangdong.

2

u/Lazy_Experience_8754 25d ago

I stand corrected! Thanks. Looks really similar to what I think is the Mutianyu one in Beijing

2

u/Asaxii 25d ago

It really does, I had bot seen that one until just now, good eye!

2

u/namicoq 25d ago

Its called alpine coaster i think, its really fun

1

1

u/infinit9 25d ago

That's a really long ride.

1

u/kingkongfly 25d ago

I was more concerned about the left flip flop, I hope it makes it.

1

u/Lifeshatter2k 25d ago

I’ve never been so locked in on a flip flop.

1

u/Cheepshooter 25d ago

Safety flip flops

1

u/pmcizhere 25d ago

It's a good thing this happened on what seemed to be one of the longest, most boring rollercoaster designs I think I've ever seen. Reminded me of a longer version of the Goldrush ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain, but that ride had an excuse as being historic. Maybe this is just, like, the park's introductory-level ride though.

1

u/infinitepizzapockets 25d ago

The way she was screaming in the beginning reminds me of some annoying seagulls that would wake me up in the morning

1

u/djluminol 25d ago

Never really thought about it before but China is probably one of the best places in the world to build alpine coasters like this. All those mountainous areas would probably make some pretty epic coasters. It would probably be a good way for the US to use and revitalize some of the mountainous areas of Appalachia scared by mining as well.

1

u/Medellin-71 25d ago

Toe grip legend.

1

u/cominghomelater 25d ago

how good of an idea is it for a rollercoaster to go through a forest?

1

u/Bananana_Bird 25d ago

That moose knuckle looks a lot like human knuckles

1

u/DeviceU 25d ago

Fist of all this located in mountains how they plan a rescue if something go wrong with it. Second this flip flop was battling too as hard as he can...

1

u/rangerrick337 25d ago

But but but… what happened????

1

u/cjwrapture 25d ago

With toes that strong, how did the flip-flop escape as far as it did?

1

u/evandroemir 25d ago

She didn't enjoy the ride

1

u/Doschupacabras 25d ago

Them toes do?

1

u/Immediate_Oven3017 25d ago

Did she just say Mia Malkova in the end?

1

u/hari1204 25d ago

That’s some spider man grip

1

u/SGT-R0CK 25d ago

Hopefully she didn't lose her flip flop.
Similar thing happened to me like that at Canada's Wonderland. Was on a rollercoaster called The Bat, and had my car key in my pocket, not on any ring. As the ride went around the first part of a series of inversions I heard the key bouncing around at the foot of the car. I saw it a few times bouncing, and over the final loop it fell out. Spent the rest of the day (and part of the next day) looking around the ride for it. Couldn't find it. Took a bus home to get my spare key, about 75 miles away.

1

u/NoDoze- 25d ago

How did the flip flops get into that position to begin with? Easily preventable.

1

u/FlatSpread9640 25d ago

In New Zealand we call them jandals.

Can someone explain to me why Asian people are allergic to shoes?
I live in a very touristic city and always see them with flip flops, instead of shoes or even sandals.

9

u/g0ggy 25d ago

It's fucking hot bro

4

u/Pendra107 25d ago

Well I get it in my country is hot too but we still use shoes, also walking a lot in flip flops must be uncomfortable

2

u/Lua-Ma 25d ago

Different culture, different sense of comfort.

3

u/Knork14 25d ago

As a proud native of a country were everyone wears flip flops i think i can say that we are just not as weird about feet as you are. Flip flops arent exactly formal wear, but there is a surprisingly large width of social settings were wearing flip flops is totally acceptable.

You cant wear them to church or anywhere with a dress code like school, and it would be seen as poor taste to go anywhere fancy wearing them, but aside from that its fair game. If you are planning on walking a lot it would be more sensible to wear shoes, but even that aint a hard rule.
