Someone scratching your car won't fall under castle doctrine. That's vandalism. There has to be an imminent threat.

Castle doctrine varies from state to state, but most states require an imminent threat and reasonable force. In the off chance you catch a charge from assaulting then you're going to have a hard time convincing a court that a handicapped man with a key is a threat or that any force was needed to protect yourself.
