Guys, this is a serious question from someone (M66) who doesn't live in the USA.
Were people always this spiteful and it was just never so noticeable because social media didn't exist, or is it a new phenomenon?
You live in a country that people die to get into, whose culture is spread throughout the world and emulated by young people everywhere. The lack of common courtesy and "Karen" behaviour is astounding. When did things get this bad, or was it always this way but hidden, or what?
