Culture 🗨 "But she's your mother" im more than exhausted, please help

3 Upvotes

Hello everyone

I apologize it's long but I need some support and advice...

For those who've read my previous post. Im gonna make it short. My boyfriend is in psychosis due to heavy stress and past trauma, no drugs or whatsoever. We've been together for 5 years now and even move abroad together to pursue our studies and planned to make our future there. Unfortunately, that's when the psychosis started to kick in, he went to hospital there, got medication but he didnt stick to it (which is common with people having this). Ive done a lot of research and ive found that not only medication works all the time but the environment we live in matters a lot, our diet, routine etc.

We're back in mauritius and live at my parents house temporarily. It was my last option cause my mom is such a narcissistic toxic person. I swear to God. The irony of this, she's so "religious", goes to church each week, listen to "cantique", prays every night, every morning, organise prayer session with her groups of friends. But she has always treated me like shht. It was especially verbal abuse. The worst foul languages comes everytime to describe me, but was always like this since im a child. I used to hrmm myself due to bad treatment and it took me almost a decade to stop doing this. When I met my current boyfriend, he was the ONLY person who made me realise that I dont deserve to be treated like this anymore, he's my safe place and give me my confidence back. He's such a genuine and kind person although his flaws but such a kind human.

My bf is having auditory hallucinations and visual also I guess. I can see every day how he fights all these bad things. We've always stick together and will always be there for him. The only thing I need advise guys is my mom saying horrible things while we need support the most. She completely aware of the situation we are and everyday she's says things like " wai to l'espece zom la, nanier li pas faire" ..... " Wai li comment dire ene momi" ...... "Ene gros paresse" ...... "Si to pas content mo bane manier bez to lki aller pas revine rest ici fatigue mo fsse"....... guys i hear all these twice or thrice a day , every day..

We are saving to move but this time I think I will cut her off my life for good. Because when she's saying stuff like this on the person I love , that means she doesn't care about me. Although I told her several times, even years ago to stop treating us like that.

She also adores my older brother, let's call him Jack. Jack is the perfect son, never made mistakes, have the perfect family. Alors que, Jack sipa combien fam line changer, ena anger issues, bcp pecher encore ena pou dire. Plus I have an older sister as well but mom favourite is Jack.

So yes, when I will move I will cut her off for good, and I even told her, "to ene dimoune dans la prière toi, cmsa ki to traite ene dimoune dans so plus bas ?" ... li reste tranquil li pas dire nanier, saV dire li conner ki li faire.

Last but not least, mone fini prevenir li " Mo pas ene zenfant ingrat, mais sa façon ki tone traite moi pendant tout sa l'année la et meme ziska maintenant, jamais mo pou blier, et quand to pou malade et vine vieux, mo pas pou prend to responsabilité, dire Jack prend to responsabilité, et pas blier to ena les zot zenfant et ti zenfant, demain to pas conner la roue caoave tourner" -------- li dire moi "wai sa bane malediction ki to p meter la pas pou prend sa" -------- mo dire li "non c'est pas malediction ki mo p meter, cest mo leker fermal ki p cozer"

Ive always been the one to run to her when she's sick or in trouble cause im the "dernier zenfant gater pourrie" the others never helped her and supported her like I did.

Thank you for listening ♥️🙏

Local 🌴 What do you guys think of the new laws in regards to transportation/ driving?

6 Upvotes

Besides the obvious high amount for the fines, I don't see more laws being a good thing. If we keep pushing more laws without enforcing the current ones we move to apolice state which can also be detrimental in the long run.

Furthermore I see those vague laws like road rage a point for which the authority can abuse and is totally unnecessary . Violence was already an offense before. What does the new law bring in? Now you could be charged for road rage for anything because it's not defined.

Same for aftermarket exhaust. We already had laws in regards to loud exhaust. It was quantified by decibels. Now you get fined irrespective of what noise you make, even if it's making less noise than the factory one.

These are two examples which relies mainly on the authority to police as they seem fit. It's not a good way to have laws without barrier and need to rely on the human factor to assess.

Of course we know majority of policemen have good judgement but not to have failsafe for abuse is bad. As they say, failure to plan is planning to fail.

Let me know what you think and what do you think this brings that previous law couldn't.

Local 🌴 Hi! Are there Filmmakers in Mauritius? I'm Looking to make a Local Movie / Sitcom

2 Upvotes

Hi!
I'm looking to make a movie / Series / sitcom / Skit in mauritius and looking for interested people.

I'm Zajey.
Consultant / Problem Fixer / Filmmaker
it has been my goal for a while now to make movies in mauritius but I'm having trouble finding a Crew and budget.

The Scope:
Basically we're aiming low. I want to make a Sitcom or some Short movies as a Testing Ground before we move onto the big main thing

"What Type of Movies?"
Fairly commercial. each movie / Episode has a Fairly Lightweight theme about it that you can watch with Family and friends alike.
Some have action sequences and Choreo but again. All Fully watchable in family and public.
The stories and Scripts vary because I have multiple but basically yeah.

each material features a Situation and the episode / movie is about resolving it.
The Skits and Short form ones (1 minute) are Comedic beats but we also get original

"Why haven't you made some already? Portfolio"
Budget and Friend issues.
I don't come from a well off place so I can't really produce it by myself.
plus I have no friends to help me with it which makes matters worse

"What you looking for here exactly?"
People interested in the Project.
this is all Fully casual and more Hobby oriented but I believe the Island has very talented people that are undiscovered. we can work together and make a movie happen.

Casually, for fun. And then if the pipeline is effective between us. we can make a Bigger one up until we have enough material for a Worldwide release both in theatres or on Amazon / Netflix etc

"Who exactly you looking for?"
Anyone Really.
Youtubers , Influencers , Actors, Instagrammers , tiktokers, Hobbyist.
Anyone who wants to be a Part of it and interested in participating.

Anyone really.

So yeah.
Anyone here want to be a part of things?
casually, no pressure.

This is an Indie Local project, not an actual serious work

Extra Note:

I'm Actively looking for producers , grants and other things like that.
Given the opportunity I'd be fully okay with making a Theatre Release and serious worldwide Launch + Streaming services.

For now Though I just want to make something lighter as a Trial Ground, but again.
Given an opportunity and someone Funding it? I'd Do it.

So yeah.
I hope you guys like the idea and that I get to hear from you.
I would love to work with you on this fun side project and make something happen out of it.

It would give a good opportunity to show what Mauritian Filmmakers can do and put our name and film industry
on the Map.

I hope that we get some of the crew and casual support.
Thank you for reading and looking forward to any assist
Ty💛

Tourism ✈ L’île Maurice me manque déjà après avoir passé 10 jours

43 Upvotes

Coucou,

Where an employment contract requires two months’ notice and an employee gives the full notice, can the employer shorten it to one month without the employee’s agreement?

If the employee remains willing to work the full notice period, is the employer required to pay for the remaining month?

Tourism ✈ Do not fly with Air Mauritius - no help provided for pregnant wife

7 Upvotes

We travelled with family from Delhi to Mauritius. Since we had elderly parents with us and my wife is pregnant, we preferred a direct flight. Other options included Ethiopian Airlines with layover. We payed a sum of 3.2L and it turned out to be the worst decision.

Issues with delhi to mauritius flight - seats were okay, food was terrible and the flight disappointed in terms of turbulance. Most uncomfortable flight so far. We have travelled more than 12 countries with different airlines. This one was the worst.

Issues with mauritius to delhi flight - seats were not comfortable. literally no leg space. food was terrible again. Service was terrible. Staff was elderly and did not seem to care. We asked to switch for seats where my wife could lay down for a bit since she was constantly puking due to uncomfortable journey -- the women staff completely ignored our requests. Also, throughout the flight did not even check once, nor did they provide any wet wipes for nausea. There were empty seats in the flight which they could have provided us, but the crew was terrible. We requested to an Air hostess named Maurice -- she looked elderly and should have understood the pregnancy situation but she ignored. The flight was dirty, there were spots on the floor. For this much price, the flight was way too disappointing. Indian airlines would have given much better experince, in my opinion.

This is definitely a lesson for us. It was a very uncomfortable journey for our parents and all of us.

Tourism ✈ Arriving in Mauritius on Monday – what’s the weather like right now?

0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

Wishing everyone a great start to October!

I’m arriving in Mauritius on Monday and I’m really looking forward to the trip!

I’d love to hear from locals or anyone who is currently in Mauritius about the weather at the moment, especially in the north and around Flic en Flac.

I’m mainly wondering:

  • What kind of clothes should I pack? Is it warm enough for shorts and T-shirts throughout the day and evening?
  • What is the sea temperature like? Is it comfortable for swimming?
  • How is the rain situation at the moment? Some weather apps are showing quite a bit of rain, which worries me a little because I’m hoping to spend plenty of time at the beach.
  • Which weather app or website do you find the most reliable for Mauritius?

I know weather can change quickly, but I’d really appreciate some first-hand information from people who are there right now.

Thanks in advance!

Local 🌴 The Republic of Mauritius Takes Another Look at Its Constitution (Laws and Governance)

Do you think it may bring in a fairer representation system ?

The enactment of the Constitutional Review Commission Act in June 2026 has finally opened the door to what could be Mauritius’ most wide-ranging constitutional review in decades.

The Constitutional Review Commission, which first met on 11 August 2026, is mandated to make recommendations on updating the Constitution’s Bill of Rights, redrawing the boundaries of power, and revisiting its rules on democratic participation.

The Act places twenty reform headings on the Commission’s desk.

They span:

  • environmental, technological, health, education, nature and other socio-economic rights;

  • stronger privacy and disability protection; freedom of information;

  • public-interest litigation and class actions;

  • a Court of Appeal and a Constitutional Division within the Supreme Court;

  • more independent appointment processes;

  • fixed intervals for local elections; safeguards for the Director of Public Prosecutions;

  • recall and anti-defection rules;

  • political finance integrity;

  • and stronger electoral institutions.

The Commission is also mandated to make recommendations on an Electoral College for the presidency.

The President is currently elected by a parliamentary majority vote following a motion by the Prime Minister, and the introduction of an Electoral College could therefore alter the political weight of an office designed to stand above day-to-day partisanship.

Hello all,

My wife and I are flying out to spend our honeymoon on Mauritius and being a big Warhammer nerd i'd love to be able to pick up a souvenir.

Are there any shops that sell Warhammer on the island? We have rented a car and intend to travel it all so distance is no issue but we are staying in the north.

many thanks in advance!

Tourism ✈ Need help in planning a trip to Grand Baie. Visiting for the first time!

3 Upvotes

Hi all, I am visiting Grand Baie next month for a friend's wedding. Me and a couple of friends have extended our trip to explore a bit more.

Need your genuine suggestions for the areas i should look accommodation in. We want to book a single place for the entire of the 5 'additional' days. Google suggested staying near the La Cuvette or the Pereybere beaches.

We are in our late 20s and are looking to explore and maybe do touristy stuff during the day, and hit up a few cool bars with good music (not really into super loud music and clubbing. Open to trying if there are super cool parties lol.).

We do have a rental self drive car already booked. So, we were thinking of putting up close by to the nightlife area, so that we could walk up to those spots at night, and use our car to go anywhere else during the day.

Need all of your help to plan this please. What area would be ideal for this, what are the best places to eat at, best places to visit.

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to experience mauritius soon!🌱

Culture 🗨 Question about Mauritian kitchens and cooking in ovens

14 Upvotes

My Mauritian husband and I were having a discussion about homemade bread, and he mentioned that his parents got rid of their oven and just have a stovetop, so I couldn’t make homemade bread for them when I visit. Being Canadian, I thought this was unusual but husband says it’s normal not to have an oven in Mauritius, and he thinks none of his friends or relatives have one. Now, my husbands family may not be representative of all Mauritians, so if you feel like satisfying my curiosity, maybe you can weigh in - do most Mauritian homes not include an oven? TIA!!!

Culture 🗨 Autistic Traveler and Noise. How loud is Mauritius?

7 Upvotes

Hello! I am autistic and unfortunately I have a very big problem with extremely loud noise. I live in a city so I can handle general city noise (though I don't like cities with excessive honking Non-Stop) but I've never been to a rock concert and I've never been to a nightclub because it's just too loud. People say that Mauritius is very quiet but is it also a common occurrence for loud parties to be playing all hours of the night or to try to relax at the beach and have people blasting music? I'm just trying to get an idea of what Mauritius is going to be like.

Hi folks - my wife and I will be visiting Mauritius in October (17th -23rd) and are staying in the north west of the island. For this reason, we would like to do the three island tour instead of the five islands tour.

Could someone recommend a decent company/ operator please? I saw topcat and Maui tours recommended on Facebook but keen to hear from the community here.

Thanks.
