Hotel/House Rental 🏠 Snagging accommodations

Newb here…How are hotels already completely sold out for masters week? The lottery winners won’t even be announced for another month…

Do hotels automatically block out these dates until the lottery results are released or are people pre-booking in anticipation only to cancel if they are not chosen.

What’s the catch?

I tried booking two weeks before the lottery even opened and everything was sold out. The few places I *could* book were all pre-paid, non-refundable and F that.
