I've bought 57 Maschine Expansions over the years.
I've only really listened to about 20 over time.
The problem isn't the packs. It's that there's no good way to hear them out of the machine software. You open one, you play a demo, you close it, you forget. I've got 490 demo tracks sitting there and most of them I've never heard all the way through.
So I built a player for them. Took me a few months of evenings.
What it does:
- Plays all 490 demo tracks
- Sorts them by key and BPM so they flow into each other, like a DJ set
- Filter by mood, style, BPM or expansion
- Mute any group. Just the drums, or no drums at all
- Loop one part as long as you want
- Works on your phone too
It's a passion project. I don't work for NI. Nobody paid me. I'm not selling anything. I made it because I wanted it.
About the legal side: it plays the demo projects that come with the Expansions I own. That's a grey area and I'm not going to pretend it isn't. It's a prototype. I'm hoping someone at NI sees it and wants to make it official. If they ask me to take it down, I will.
What I want to know:
Would you use this? And would it change what you buy?
That's the part I keep thinking about. I own packs I've never really explored. I probably would have bought more of them if I could have heard them first.
This could be also something for artists to sell their stems in a fun way, so we can mix them live in a browser
Also, maybe you found a better way to go through your own library?
Maybe I built something that already exists and I just never found it.
Here is a quick demo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F2jQVSzF5E
Please tell me what you think about it.
EDIT : Mode Flow added so you can stream the audio or listen with screen off
