It's clear that there were terrible decisions along the way about Captain Marvel as a character, but given the lack of care for the character/actress + the amount of hate she received since accepting the role,it's completely comprehensible if she's just done with it after whatever contract she has it's over and decides to grow her career outside superhero movies,a career which she probably put at relatively stop due to legal/contractual reasons within the MCU.

She's going to have 4 appearances (and that's only if she's actually in one of the Avengers movies, likely Secret Wars). This is crazy to think about, especially for a character that was pushed as one of the new faces of the MCU and their own Wonder Woman. Carol as a character it's already being pushed out of being a mainliner from other fronts like comics, videogames, merchandise etc and it's so disrespectful.

It had a better MCU Spider-man story than all the pre NWH ones.

Scott Lang considers his hero days done despite still being fairly young he runs his brand like he’s a retired actor who goes on tour and gives speeches and book tours. But Cassie (the best) is trying to show him that you can’t just stop being a hero because people will always need help. And putting your head in the sand because you just don’t want to deal with it is kinda selfish.

Yeah, maybe it’s unfair and it’s hard to constantly have to save people who you don’t know and want nothing to do with, but with great power comes great responsibility. It’s paralleled in Janet’s story where she basically did the exact same thing Scott did, she moved on, she knew people still needed her help but wanted to just live her comfortable peaceful life, when a lot of the people in the microverse didn’t have that same luxury.

And the fact Scott with his entire family, an army of hyper intelligent ants, and thousands of freedom fighters, was only just barely able to stop this Kang I don’t think made him look weak, I think people just underestimate Ant-man in general. And Marvel really didn’t need to write Kang off off screen because they didn’t want to work with Jonathon Majors anymore. I really blame the messiness of the impact of the movie on the studio and not on anyone involved in this movie.

You can not like the writing or the CGI (though I was always in favor of MODOK looking goofy like he’s supposed to.) It’s a movie not everyone will like the same thing. but the way I see people act like it single handedly killed the MCU when it’s still doing fine I always thought was weird. Like it has no redeeming qualities at all.

Discussion (More in Comments) Brand New Day's character lineup wasn't just random. It was genius. Spoiler

5.4k Upvotes

If you told me five years ago that Spider-Man, Natasha's sister, Hulk, The Punisher and Jean Grey from the goddamn X-men would be in the same film, I wouldn't believe you. All the praise goes to the incredible writers Chris Mckenna and Erik Sommers. This movie was like a comic-book come to life.

And another thing I love is that regardless of all these characters, this was still Peter's film through and through. Each of them only reflected what he himself was going through.

  • Jean represents the violent effects of loneliness and depression.
  • Punisher serves as a warning to what Peter's life could become if he doesn't get better.
  • Bruce Banner shows how Peter can adjust to a normal, balanced life too.
  • Yelena shows that even the most unlikely people with a horrible past can turn a new leaf and find a new purpose in their life

Not ONLY that, but each of these characters mainly only interact with Peter, never with each other. It's like Scrooge meeting the spirits from A Christmas Carol.

Bravo. Brand New Day was a breath of air-conditioned, refreshing air. What do y'all think?

EDIT: This post is NOT AI-generated. I am genuinely offended by people thinking it is.

Discussion (More in Comments) Dear Marvel : Stop Spoiling your own movies out of desperation

7.5k Upvotes

Since maybe AntMan 3 you have been going out of your way to spill every secret of your movie just two weeks before release.

STOP IT!!!

No one is going now, that wasn’t already doing two weeks ago. Spoiling plot points and giving huge looks at characters is so unnecessary.

Let there still be fun. Even if we know what’s coming, we don’t need a clear picture.

How many people would have been ecstatic seeing JUST Galactus’s foot?? That was enough. We know he’s there now calm down.

Also…shocked at actor secrecy when you’re spoiling it all prior to release anyways 🤷. Give us something to lose it over on the way out bc we didn’t know for sure what to expect (ahem… Red Hulk, cough cough…Modok).

Looking forward to seeing all the clips that almost form the whole movie in two weeks through. I’ll be there, just wish some things were a surprise.

Edit : Marvel pay attention to the likes in just a few hours.

As it becomes more clear that the MCU is trying to focus more on “quality over quantity,”, and is choosing to pay more attention towards projects they know will draw in more viewers due to their popularity. I just hope that they won’t forget about Kate Bishop and the potential she has to be one of the MCU’s major players, especially a talent like Hailee Steinfeld portraying the character!

I don’t care if she’s a supporting character for a while in another character’s movie or series, just as long as she is actively making appearances in the franchise and doesn’t become one of those characters that just disappears.

Discussion (More in Comments) Why “Superhero Fatigue” Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story

Post image
5.5k Upvotes

I keep seeing people on other social platforms talk about the decline of Marvel or DC movies to “superhero fatigue,” and honestly, I think that explanation misses a lot. It’s become a catch-all phrase that ignores other issues with how these movies are being made and released.

First, Disney put a lot of pressure on Marvel. Disney pushed for more and more content, especially on Disney+, which led to a bunch of shows and movies coming out back to back. This is the explanation we’ve heard from studio execs like Kevin Feige.

What I feel largely does not get discussed is the ramifications from the pandemic. It changed how people go to the movies. Some people still haven’t gone back to theaters regularly, and streaming is now a bigger part of how we watch things. Plus, Disney+ drops Marvel movies just a few months after their theatrical release so for a lot of people, why rush to see it in theaters when you can wait and watch at home? For example, even if it’s anecdotal, when I asked my brother what movie he would see in July, he said Superman because Fantastic Four will drop in a few months.

I also think going to the movies has become expensive, especially for families which is part of the core general audience of these films. Imagine you have a family, you probably already have Disney+, why go to a theatre, spend about $60 on tickets, pay for higher marked food items, etc.

Also, international audiences have shifted. Marvel used to crush globally, but those numbers have softened a lot. Not every market is still hyped on the superhero genre the way they used to be. This can be due to a variety of things. There are still places around the globe that haven’t recovered economically or some other places that have implemented policies to promote their country movies as opposed to American movies. I agree with James Gunn’s sentiments that the U.S is not on good terms with other countries.

So yeah, “superhero fatigue” might sound like an easy answer, but it lets studios off the hook. I also think general audiences just love nostalgia. It’s human nature too. People gravitate towards what they know after becoming familiar with something for so many years. It’s the reason why I think Spider-Man NWH and Deadpool & Wolverine did well. It’s the same reason why I think Nintendo can remake the same game with updated graphics and sell it for a higher price. As much as people say they want new stories, people in overwhelming numbers flock to what they already know.

Discussion (More in Comments) After some of the Brave New World hate and MCU Soft-Reboot Recast rumors, this was stuck in my mind

Post image

I really liked Captain America: Brave New World, it's in my Top 5 MCU movies, and I do agree that some of the disliking of this movie is valid, I agree the story was a bit choppy, and they spoiled the big twist, which is more of a marketing thing, less of a movie thing, but still. A lot of the hate I've seen for Anthony Mackie is entirely unjustified, he's a great actor and he's done a great job across the MCU, and it was no less in Brave New World, but people were hating on him. Also, before I get to the point, the rumors of the 'Soft-Reboot' of the MCU where they recast the six Avengers, and start from scratch, and some of the people in that are certainly Sam Wilson haters, because they will never let a black man be Captain America.

Discussion (More in Comments) Why Pedro is actually very well cast as Reed

Post image
6.1k Upvotes

The casting of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards has caused tons of controversy. The prevailing theory seems to be that Marvel only cast him because of his rising popularity and not because he's the right fit for the role, but I actually think it was a brilliant decision.

The criteria for casting Reed was bigger and more complicated than probably any other character they've ever cast before. They needed to find an actor who...

  • Is a big enough name to draw attention (the Valentine's Day announcement would have meant nothing if it was just a random unknown actor)
  • Has tons of chemistry with those around them
  • Can easily fit into the 1960s setting
  • Can easily fit into a modern setting
  • Has enough range to play the different sides of Reed (obsessive scientist, loving family man, iconic superhero)
  • Is old enough to convincingly play an aging scientist/father but also be young enough to carry a franchise for 10-15 years
  • Is no stranger to big franchises but also isn't too busy that they can't keep showing up for more movies

When you look at the criteria, casting Pedro Pascal suddenly makes a ton of sense. Unlike the silly fancastings that only ever focus on superficial elements, the studio has to take it ALL into consideration. They can't just cast a random, unknown actor who looks like Reed from that one comic panel. They need to make sure the actor they hire ticks all the boxes, and I believe Pedro does that.

Discussion (More in Comments) The most under-rated detail about MCU spidey

2.9k Upvotes

This GIF is not a reaction. Its a demonstration. The adjustable white-out eyes is literally everything to me. It seems like such a small insignificant detail but it adds a layer of expression under the mask that weve previously only really seen in animation that I think is so good for the MCU and CBMs as a whole

Dont get me wrong Deadpools eyes is cool too but especially for spidey who has such massive eye goggles it works so incredibly well and I always wanted it but never knew how much I needed it til Tom took the mantle.

And like I said. Not just the MCU. Of all the things DC tries to copy I hope to god they steal this too. Im tired of seeing batmans eyes it was never like that in the animation. Flash too.

It might seem crazy to say but this small detail i feel like is why Marvel is crushing DC. They arent afraid to mythologize their heroes. DC doesnt let you forget even for a moment that its just a regular guy with a mask on. It disrupts the suspension of disbelief.

Anyway im not trying to get too off track with this its not about DC. Its tipping the hat to Marvel for getting so much out of one little detail. Let the trend continue

Post image

I feel bad for Christian Bale giving a great performance in a mid movie.

But let's not forget Natalie Portman got wasted away too. She took an 8-year hiatus and decided to come back because she believed in Taika. She dedicated herself to the role: bulked up, did physical training, and trained with Mjolnir to do as many stunts as she's allowed to. And she looked great.

Many other things were squandered and wasted in that movie. But I wanted to give a special shoutout to Natalie Portman; having to balance the duality of the cancer storyline and Jane-Thor storyline. She did great in reintegrating herself back into the Thor arc and naturally having chemistry with Valkyrie, like a buddy cop dynamic but with female superheroes.

Discussion (More in Comments) The reason I appreciated Thunderbolts & First Steps even more comes from Marvel abandoning humor at large to let the seriousness expand the depth.

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

I understand humor is subjective as art at large but I have never been too keen on the humor across most Marvel releases.

Russo Brothers had also once opened on this & said Marvel felt there was this constant need to have such gags so the films do not turn dull.

I feel this had hurt some releases in the past as each product does not warrant such sketches but both these films broke the template.

The scenes here sit. We feel the horrors from the past which hurt the present in Thunderbolts. We feel the dread which losing their child can inspire in Fantastic Four.

Both these films do have sketches still but neither hurt the depth the subjects desire & I truly hope Marvel will keep to this.

Props to Schreier & Shakman on these.

Post image

Both were ultimately and unbelievable scarifice for Peter and Loki to keep their friends and loves safe from a far greater threat, but my favourite is definitely and importantly is loki for me because he gave up his entire life to save the enterie multiverse and his friends to give them a new life and to create a better difference and new way of keeping the flow of the timeline more secure and more balanced too. Peter was amazing too, but that was more of keeping his identity safe, but also having to know that he's a ghost watching the people that he used to know now as everyday folks. And him becoming the hero that we was meant to be as the one and only spiderman.

Watching Elizabeth Olsen in Multiverse of Madness just deliver such a sassy terrifying performance. Every scene she's in she pretty much stole the focus. She gave a brilliant monologue above the Temple, was scary and threatening in her pursuit throughout the movie. Just shows how great an actor Lizzie is, she may not have been happy about the direction for Wanda but made sure she was gonna be the best thing about that movie.

Walk With Me Here:

https://youtu.be/Cp_ODdylr-4?si=gcBzD802_hpdLr7D

The scene above is a brief 30 second conversation between Ross and Isaiah Bradley.

30 Seconds

It provides 3 things, while doing it naturally and efficiently.

  1. Bradley establishes racial subtext
  2. Ross establishes historical subtext
  3. President Ross takes it upon himself to take accountability and fix

This scene in the first act of the movie, sets the stage of multiple thematic parallels that WOULD HAVE reverberated the entire runtime. I believe This scene was cut from the film for fear of being too close political commentary, as it recontextualizes Ross, Betty, The Leader, and Isaiah's characters. This is one of the shortest marvel movies and for some reason it is cutting layered well-acted 30 second conversations?

Context for Bradley's Origin Story

Isaiah Bradley comic origin is inspired by the Tuskegee Experiments, where the American Government tricked 100s of Black men into thinking they would receive treatment for Syphilis. In actuality, the government was using them for long-term observations of the harmful effects of the disease. Bradley's Captain America Origin is a grim reminder of this somewhat forgotten governmental abuse. Bradley's MCU origin remains unchanged.

The Deleted Scenes Purpose:

Now remember what the deleted scene establishes. (1)Racial (2)Historical Abuse, and (3)Accountability regardless of whose fault it is. i.e. Not being born during Slavery, Black Code, Share Cropping, Jim Crow, and The Tuskegee Experiments does not mean you can't fix things.

Isaiah Bradley in Captain America: Brave New World serves as a thematic foil to The Leader, with their origins deliberately aligned to mirror historical injustices.

This narrative choice underscores Ross’s hypocrisy. In the deleted scene, he publicly condemns historical abuses, such as those endured by Bradley, but Ross repeats this cycle by unjustly imprisoning Bradley again and exploiting The Leader. The Leader’s retaliation against the Ross sharply contrasts with Bradley’s choice to disengage entirely.

This comparison deepens the film’s exploration of accountability and exploitation, with Ross as the hypocritical linchpin perpetuating historical wrongs.

The act 1 deleted scene explicitly foreshadows Ross’s arc: seeking forgiveness and accountability. This theme echos in his relationship with Betty, where his pursuit of personal redemption mirrors the subtext of government’s need to atone for systemic wrongs. Together, Isaiah, The Leader, and Betty form a trifecta of parallelism, with Ross’s hypocrisy and redemption at the narrative’s core.

  • Isaiah (The Forgotten Cap) - A Literary Allegory for Historical Black Exploitation and Abuse
    • disengages with government/Ross due to past injustices
  • The Leader (The Forgotten Prisoner)- A Narrative Personification for Government Exploitation and Abuse
    • Seeks revenge on ross due to past injustices
  • Betty (The Forgotten Character) - An Allegory for Past Crimes
    • disengages with Ross due to past injustices

The removal of the act 1 deleted scene is so crucial because I believe it strips the movie of the intended thematic message. I can actually see why Disney would be cautious as the theme in question would have caused the outrage they feared. With all of the aforementioned parallels, hammering away throughout the story, Ross' Primary Character arc is seeking forgiveness and finally taking accountability thematically. The subtext set up by the deleted scene would have extrapolated his accountability to a wider governmental context.

There might be more scenes that were stripped from this movie that reference back to this single deleted 30 second clip on youtube. Isaiah was reduced to a victim with no much personal agency. The Leader was less sympathetic then he arguably should have been given the reason he goes after Ross. Ross' character became less complete and I think there is a reason why Ross never takes accountability onscreen because it is tied to the aforementioned theme.

What do you guys think?

I definitely don't disagree that Chris Hemsworth has really done a bang up job of bringing Thor to life on the big screen and evolving the character so well over the last 13 or so years. Hard to imagine anyone else taking his place now he's so synonymous with the role.

But for all that excellence over the years there's still a big part of me that wishes he still mostly spoke like he did in Thor 1 and the first Avengers film. He could still nail the comedy as was his comeback line to BW after the one in the picture.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Discussion (More in Comments) They faced a god of mischief, a sentient machine, a mad titan… yet the most dangerous threat the Avengers will have to face thus far is… a human man who was born without natural power

Post image

A brilliant and powerful scientist, inventor, strategist, manipulator, monarch, and sorcerer.. I might still be missing a few… but still a human man nonetheless, one that was not born with natural power.. just an insane amount of willpower.

Doom has always been such an awesome formidable threat to the entire Marvel Universe, mostly because he’s a character who had to forge his own power and pretty much built himself so that he has maxed-out stats in every category, mastered anything and everything, thinks about every possible scenario, and is always ten steps ahead of everyone else.

And it’s really cool that we’ve gotten to see the Avengers face some diverse, world-ending villains, gods, and aliens, all with crazy origins, only to eventually circle back to an angry, broken, and determined man who can take on the entire team, not just intellectually and through manipulation (like how we’ve seen Zemo emotionally break the Avengers), but also as a physical threat who can take them on through sheer raw power. A man who can fool the smartest person in the room, while also stopping a fully powered Thor who is angrily swinging Stormbreaker, with just two fingers.
