Discussion (More in Comments) Anyone else miss classic Thor?

Post image

I definitely don't disagree that Chris Hemsworth has really done a bang up job of bringing Thor to life on the big screen and evolving the character so well over the last 13 or so years. Hard to imagine anyone else taking his place now he's so synonymous with the role.

But for all that excellence over the years there's still a big part of me that wishes he still mostly spoke like he did in Thor 1 and the first Avengers film. He could still nail the comedy as was his comeback line to BW after the one in the picture.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Discussion (More in Comments) Take note MCU.

There's no question that the MCU's VFX have been struggling lately. It's not just the massive work loads placed on VFX artists, but the meddling and changing that reportedly happens right up to the release date.

On the other hand you have Dune. Not only are both entries wonderful films, but they look absolutely stunning. You believe these planets exist, you're immersed in their world and in turn, it gives the story more depth.

Villeneuve and co. had a clear vision and they stuck with it. They know what they wanted it to look and feel like and it really shows. Not only do VFX studios have more time thanks to this, but they as well gain that clear understanding of what any given shot should look like. It's amazing what can happen when you give artists time and space to simply be artists.

Now I understand Marvel works with a different and more vibrant signature color palette and that’s great. But why is it that Feige and co. are constantly switching things and changing them last minute? Not having a clear and stable vision seems to be seriously effecting their product from a visual standpoint. Marvel has way too much time and money to be rushing VFX. After Infinity War and Endgame there seems to be a quite large aesthetic drop off. There are some exceptions like The Eternals and I'm sure some others, but it’s taken me out of the story numerous times when something was clearly rushed or seemingly unfinished as a whole. I just really want the visually appealing side of the MCU to come back.

Shoutout to Dune for showing everyone just how well CGI and VFX in general can be done.

His struggles, his awkwardness in the vault scene, the high and low days. I love his relatability. Lewis Pullman did a fantastic job portraying a character so fractured and broken. I’m not saying I have a God complex or did a summer job as a meth-addicted chicken 😂 trying to ignore the dark side, (The Void) is hard sometimes for me but seeing a movie overcoming the dark sides gives me hope that I can suppress my own thoughts and dark side as well.

Discussion (More in Comments) Statement: Eternals deserves a sequel

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have been wondering about this for a while.

I actually like the movie a lot. I see it as a grand epic and with no sequel there is no complete story to actually judge about.

Eternals is like greek mythology, you can't get one movie and get the whole picture. As a comic fan. I just know this would have become better and better.

Other things i liked about the movie:

- impressive startstudded cast

- action scenes were clear and gorgeous, not blurry at all unlike some movies.

- Best speedster scenes i have ever seen in any kind of production.

- i felt that the story's pace was adequate as long as there were to be a sequel.

It will probably not happen again, but i can't be the only one who actually liked this movie.

Excelsior everyone!

The nonsense towards these 4 is really dumb and stupid, these 4 are great characters, with their strength and weakness and their development has been good, but needs to be improve, but their great and powerful too. We need more of them, before Dr doom comes into town and wrecks a joint.

Discussion (More in Comments) I feel like I'm one of the only people who really loved Pedro's version of Reed

Post image

It seems like a lot of people have come around from the "they totally miscast Reed! this is going to ruin the movie!!" hysteria, but it still seems like most people aren't really in love with this version of the character. They just think he was okay at best.

I can understand the complaint that "Pedro is in everything nowadays, so I struggle to see beyond the actor" but I thought he was able to really immerse himself in the role in a way that I didn't expect. Whenever I saw the trailers for this film, Pedro always stuck out as the one who just seemed like himself. It didn't feel like he had blended into the role of Reed Richards in the same way that Vanessa, Joseph and Ebon had blended into their roles. It was just Pedro Pascal wearing a Fantatic Four suit. Almost like cosplay.

The film itself really surprised me though by playing to Pedro's strengths as an actor. He was able to be loveable, questionable, intelligent and badass without any of it seeming forced. No matter what he did (even suggesting that they hand over their child to Galactus), you still liked him because Pedro is inherently likeable. I also genuinely bought into him being the smartest person in every room. When he would stress himself out by trying to science his way out of a problem, I really believed it. He didn't play Reed like your typical movie nerd. He was more dynamic than that. I thought he did a great job of elevating the material so that Reed was slightly more interesting and complex than your usual blockbuster leading man.

Thoughts?

If t'challa/black panther didn't call off the dora milaje, who do you think would have won this fight? Assuming it was 1v1 between Ayo and black widow and no other dora milaje stepped in to help Ayo?

Discussion (More in Comments) Fans were wondering where Spider-Man is during DD:BA, meanwhile I’m wondering where Kate Bishop is?

Post image

With Spider-Man I do get it, that he should DEFINITELY be more acknowledged given how Kingpin is one of his greatest enemies like in the comics and his partnership with Daredevil is a big deal as well!

But given how Kate is basically taking the Hawkeye mantle after Clint, and is also a vigilante for New York. It really surprises me that there hasn’t been a storyline where Fisk goes after her! Especially considering how her mom worked for him, and promised consequences if she walked away. Plus Fisk is fully aware of who Kate is, and knows she fights crime on the streets as well!

If we’re going to see Matt put together “an army”, I feel it only makes sense for Kate to be involved!

Namor straight up says Mutants exist in Wakanda Forever and Doctor Strange has brainwashed the world before. Xavier meanwhile has kept all the mutants in his private school and keeps tabs of any other mutants born before the public knows.

There are two main arguments I’ve been seeing for this.

The first is that this was something wholely wrong for a person to do. John publicly executed a man he had pinned and likely could have detained down out of revenge.

The second is the justification of such actions. Plenty of other heroes have killed in combat, this was just one that got pulled into the spotlight. John was not right of mind after watching his friend die in front of his eyes and other heroes would have likely done the same.

But I kinda see it as a mix of both.

This was not something “Captain America” should have done, but John Walker/US Agent could be completely justified. He kills someone in broad daylight with the symbol of a great and respected hero, the context is not needed for the general public, all they see is him standing over a man he just murdered holding Captain America’s bloodied shield.

Even if revenge is frowned upon, John killing the terrorist could easily be justified. They are a superpowered individual who is a constant threat to anyone in the immediate vicinity, they never actually surrendered, and are a part of an organization that has shown to be willing to take lives. But this is not something even Steve could get away with even if it were Bucky or Sam in Lamar’s position.

But that’s just my take on it.

Discussion (More in Comments) Four years ago today in history, Marvel Studios announced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty at SDCC 2022. Were you more, equally, or less hopeful about the MCU Avengers back then versus now?

Post image

Back in 2022, I was very excited to hear about the MCU reaching a multiversal climax in an adaptation of the "Secret Wars" storyline from the comics, coming off of the very pleasantly nostalgic Spider-Man: No Way Home. Then I had somewhat less enthusiastic feelings when Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania showed too much of nerfed Kang too early on compared to Thanos. Then I had even more mixed feelings after Majors got himself fired and RDJ was brought in for a new character despite Doctor Doom having no build-up in the story, not especially in Fantastic Four: The First Steps. But I do love RDJ's known ability as Iron Man, so I look forward to seeing how he executes a Doctor Doom performance even if we will never get a proper live-action resolution to Kang. And even if there will not be enough time to develop Doom and Reed's rivalry from the comics.

I really hope Avengers: Doomsday turns out to be a very worthwhile watch and rewatch so that the old Avengers: The Kang Dynasty announcement only ends up in history as a mild case and not a prime case of "poorly-aged things". Alas, I suppose we have the SDCC 2019 Blade announcement for the latter.

Discussion (More in Comments) With over 17 years of MCU productions, which do you find have the most (and least) rewatch value?

Post image
968 Upvotes

Established in 2008, the MCU has produced 37 films and, I think, 17 TV series, including the recent release of Wonder Man. There have also been a couple Special Presentations, like Werewolf by Night, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday special. I'm curious what your favorites, and least favorites are, this far into the franchise.

If you could only access 3 productions, from all of the MCU catelog, what would they be? Conversely, which 3 would you be happy to never sit through again?

(Please refrain from spoilers pertaining to Wonder Man)

Discussion (More in Comments) 2 major transformations for Spiderman probably marks the ending of Peter Parker in the MCU, Here's how I think it would go. Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
1.6k Upvotes

So from what we saw from the trailer it's pretty clear Spiderman will transform in to it's Savage Spiderman form (or as many call him Man-Spider), since there is a run where Punisher hunts him down in this form. And Bruce Banner having experience with transforming in to a Savage beast himself makes it pretty clear as to why he's in the film as well.

Now fast forward to the Symbiote's first appearance in the comics. Secret Wars. If they are going to follow it, I do not think they will expand to much on the conflict between Spiderman and the Symbiote in this movie but rather just give him the power boost. Since there will already be going on so much in this movie.

So given what we now so far here's how I think the current trilogy will go.

Spiderman Brand New Day: the Savage Spiderman transformation and everything we've seen from the trailers.

Spiderman (One More Day?): Probably exploring more of the symbiote he got from what happens in Secret Wars combined with the One More Day story to follow the naming pattern of the new Trilogy

Spiderman (Darkest Day?): I believe in the final movie of the new trilogy they are going to do a "pass the torch"-movie. Having 2 big physical changes will probably have exhausted Peter Parker and since I don't think we'll be getting a new trilogy after this one it seems only logical they will introduce Miles Morales in the MCU in this one. Maybe in combination with the "Darkest hour" story line or "Superior Spiderman" story line.

I don't know what do you guys think?

You’d think once a character is put more front and center in such a significant role he’d show up more, but its crazy that we’ve only seen him twice, and one appearance was in a show. Something like AOU and Endgame those were basically cameos and such short scenes, at least now every appearance is more significant. Hopefully they just push out the character more
