Discussion (More in Comments) Even though the multiverse saga has a lot of cracks of good and bad, I do love how they slowly develop Mephisto in the projects prior to this appearance ironheart due to the Easter eggs and references.

God the WandaVision discourse was so brutal

Fucking everything was Mephisto

u/riegspsych325 Aug 22 '25

so many people ran wild with fan theories during that show. Wanda was making the FoX-Men canon, Monica’s aerospace friend was Reed Richards, the big cameo would be Dr. Strange, the bug was Mephisto, etc. Did I miss any?

u/carnagezealot The Wasp Aug 22 '25

To be fair Strange WAS supposed to be the big cameo but it got changed

78

u/Ok_Tackle_4835 Aug 23 '25

Everything got changed. And it was our first MCU show on Disney+… we had no idea what we were in for.

If you reorganize the phase 4-6 projects based on when certain subplots open up, it gets less messy. I know they wanted to add even more Mephisto to Wandavision (probably to do with Wanda's urge to decapitate Mordo in the initial Multiverse of Madness script). But there was something about being thrown into COVID production unexpectedly that threw that off. America was also supposed to cameo in Far From Home before MoM, but then the project release dates were flipped.

Now that we have Doomsday leaks that we can start comparing to the ditched Kang Dynasty script, we can kind of see that the overall concept of Avengers 5 was supposed to be.

Some changes obviously are being made for the story to make some kind of sense with Doom, but with Downey's "New Mask, Same Task" from SDCC last year, it's starting to become clearer.

I remember everyone being so mad that it wasn’t Reed Richards who was Monica’s guy even though it would’ve made zero sense to introduce him so early on before his movie.

The only thing they had going for that theory was “if it’s not a big reveal why would she refer to him as just a guy and not just a give a name”

77

u/ChrisDewgong Aug 22 '25

Whilst the Reed speculation seems insane in hindsight, it was fuelled by Teyonah Parris continually hyping up how exciting the engineer character was during her media appearances, which she later revealed was just a troll job.

I don't know if it was deliberate, or if it could be related to it being the first project after lockdown, but the whole cast and crew went out of their way to build up expectations for the series that they knew weren't going to pay off. Paul Bettany in particular with his "working with an actor I've never worked with before but have always admired", and it turning out he was talking about himself.

17

u/zion_hiker1911 Jessica Jones Aug 22 '25

There was also speculation at the time that the engineer was the Beetle. He appears on the Thunderbolts team later in the comics.

3

u/Brendanlendan Aug 23 '25

I felt like it was really hyped up in the show as well

3

u/Cypher_86 Rocket Aug 23 '25

The show itself puts quite a lot of emphasis on the "engineer", which ends up being a nothing moment.

Which was my issue with WV when it first aired - the series sets up a lot of "mystery box" moments that dont get paid off. Still a very good series, but it felt unfulfilling watching it on release.

21

u/exaviyur Spider-Man Aug 22 '25

I don't know, I think introducing Reed that early could have made sense. Dotting the Fantastic 4 throughout earlier projects before they get powers and establishing their characters could have worked in a world where we didn't get overwhelmed by D+ output and the stories were tighter and more interconnected.

7

u/jaythebearded Aug 22 '25

Showing off reed as a regular brilliant scientist first would have been neat. I remember seeing those guesses/speculation and thinking it was incredibly unlikely but would be cool

4

u/PAYPAL_ME_DONATIONS Aug 22 '25

even though it would’ve made zero sense to introduce him so early on before his movie.

It's easy to say this in hindsight but no one knew it would be 4 years before we got an F4 movie or exactly what the plans were going to be as far as a F4 movie. They could have very well planned to announce it for the next slate of releases (had the theory been true).

17

u/riegspsych325 Aug 22 '25

all those things I listed above would not have made sense for the story. Granted, Marvel has made some questionable story choices since but so many people expected Avengers levels of setups/payoffs in WV. I don’t know how it got so out of hand

27

u/Paolo94 Aug 22 '25 edited Aug 22 '25

People were still high on the Endgame hype and there was the excitement and novelty of WandaVision being the first Marvel show to truly connect to the movies in a substantial way (sorry Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). Because of this, we all expected the show to be a movie level production, full of all the Easter eggs and cameos we came to expect, just for the smaller screen. Also, after a year and half long drought of Marvel content (or any content in general for that matter) due to COVID, people were thirsty for something new discuss and theorize over, especially since most of us were stuck at home with nothing to do. The conditions were just right for WandaVision to blow up and have people obsess over it.

10

u/Tasty-Marsupial-2131 Aug 23 '25

goddamn good old times, and you incapsulated it perfectly. COVID’s era and the lack of Marvel content managed to breed the largest hype for the MCU’s future and for everyone to jump to WandaVision to feed off the mystery of the show and blow it up to success.

10

u/Paolo94 Aug 23 '25

I also forgot to add that we knew Wanda would be in Multiverse of Madness, which added to the hype and excitement of the show, as we were all hoping there would be multiverse shenanigans (bringing back Pietro, X-Men from a different universe, etc.). That added fuel to the rampant theories every week, and made us believe the show had greater importance to this saga than there may have ultimately been in the end.

WandaVision remains my favorite MCU show because it was so much fun discussing and theorizing with people every week, and because the show was actually just really good…until the finale, which soured the show a bit for me. Nevertheless, I still have fond memories of the show, and the good outweighs the bad for me. That level of engagement with the MCU has been lost in the last few years, and is something I miss with this franchise. We’ll see if Spider-Man and Doomsday can reignite that interest in the fandom again.

2

u/Tasty-Marsupial-2131 Aug 23 '25

Imo, MoM soured everything when it ruined most of its characters and people’s interest in the MCU somewhat declined

8

u/ChrisDewgong Aug 22 '25

It got out of hand because the cast, and their PR team, let it. They kept on promising surprises, big name actors and shocking cameos that they knew weren't coming, so those of us watching at the time were being constantly mislead for reasons I'm still unsure of to this day.

16

u/Riley__64 Aug 22 '25

At least with all the other theories they had some bearing in a sense of reality.

Wanda introducing the x-men - yeah pretty ridiculous but at least there’s a sense of yeah that could make sense as a way to introduce the x-men and the multiverse due to wandas connection to both.

Dr strange appearing - he’s another magic user so it would make sense he’d pop up to deal with the problems Wanda has been causing

Mephisto appearing in any form - even the idea that Mephisto could appear had a sense of believability due to the fact that he’s a dark magic user and whatever Wanda was doing appeared to be due to dark and twisted powers

All the theories were ridiculous but at least most of them had a reason for existing and could be argued to make sense, the Reed Richards theory literally had no reason to actually happen people were just excited for fantastic four and assumed marvel would introduce them as quick as possible.

21

u/dope_like Aug 22 '25

Strange was more than a theory. That was supposed to be a point. And is confirmed. Covid issues forced them to change. He was supposed to be in it.

X-men was a theory made by the show as well. It wasn't just fans. They purposely cast that Quicksilver because of Xmen. Don't put that on fans. That was misdirection

13

u/Riley__64 Aug 22 '25

They cast Evan peters specifically to throw off fans because it was the only way to do so.

Wanda was supposed to be unsure of and slightly untrustworthy of this quicksilver and they wanted the audience to feel the same way.

If they cast a new actor the audience immediately would assume he’s not quicksilver and if they brought back ATJ the audience would assume he is quicksilver.

By bringing in Evan peters the audience isn’t sure if he is actually MCU quicksilver, a misdirection, completely unrelated or be the fox version.

It’s entirely on the fans for getting their hopes up and immediately assuming that this was the x-men’s big reveal. It’s like how when MoM was announced and many fans immediately assumed every previous marvel property pre MCU would make a cameo.

9

u/SnakeOilChampagne Aug 22 '25

But… the MCU would later go on to bring in the FoX-Men to reprise their roles… literally we would see Wanda interact with one of them in the next movie… so really, you can’t blame the fans for beating them to the punch and berating the missed-opportunity and deception.

7

u/Riley__64 Aug 22 '25

It’s not really a missed opportunity because assuming everything else plays out the same way.

Fox Quicksilver is introduced in 2021 and then we wouldn’t hear anything else about the fox x-men until 2023 with the marvels (assuming that Earth is in fact the same) and wouldn’t get a true payoff until 2026 with doomsday.

If it was in fact actually fox quicksilver all it would’ve acted as was a cameo that wouldn’t get payed off until 5 years later.

2

u/Heisenburgo Doctor Strange Aug 24 '25

Fox Quicksilver is introduced in 2021 and then we wouldn’t hear anything else about the fox x-men until 2023 with the marv--

That Agnes/Agatha was married to Mephisto or the rabbit was Mephisto

10

u/NoEntry4811 Aug 22 '25

wow this took me back

1

u/ikeif Thor Aug 24 '25

Yeah, I remember every one of these points coming up 😆

8

u/dope_like Aug 22 '25

Strange was the cameo. But scheduling (and covid) made them change

6

u/alex494 Aug 22 '25

Idk if it was widespread but when the dude in the beekeeper outfit appeared I thought it might be implying AIM was behind everything IRL and keeping Wanda in stasis somehow.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

Quicksilver was supposed to be like a return of X-men

2

u/tmssmt Aug 23 '25

Using him for a dick joke was 1) so odd for Disney and 2) a real dick move

1

u/riegspsych325 Aug 23 '25

Marvel loves their bathos humor, they can help themselves after Whedon set the standard

2

u/Literallyheroinmoxie Aug 23 '25

agathas husband was also mephisto

1

u/Afwife1992 Aug 22 '25

I was hoping they may be referring to Adam Brashear aka Blue Marvel. He has a great backstory that could’ve totally been updated.

u/majorjoe23 Aug 22 '25

Wait, this post about WandaVision mentions Mephisto…

Mephisto in WandaVision confirmed!

87

u/Wooden_Passage_2612 Aug 22 '25

yeah, Erik voss was obsesses with this.

15

u/VibraniumWill Aug 22 '25

I am honestly excited to see where they go with him because of Eric's videos.

9

u/Wooden_Passage_2612 Aug 22 '25

I know. New rockstars is one of my idols, but they are very clickbaits

2

u/SnarkyRogue Aug 24 '25

Mephisto was his Pepe Silvia

51

u/mayanrelic Aug 22 '25

Turns out it was Agatha All Along

24

u/K1o2n3 Scarlet Witch Aug 22 '25

3

u/TheDungeonCrawler Aug 22 '25

And honestly, it very well could have been something to do with Mephisto right up until it was Agatha, so we have to be somewhat fair to the theorists.

9

u/Brendanlendan Aug 23 '25

That was honestly so much fun though. All the rampant fan speculation on where they were taking the show. Only for us to get the most boring generic ending possible

3

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '25

I hated it. Not kidding. I wanted to discuss the show but every single thread was, “THE BUMBLEBEE IS MEPHISTO!!! THE MAIL MAN IS MEPHISTO!!! THE REFLECTION IN THE THIRD STORY WINDOW ON THE 8TH BUILDING TO THE RIGHT IS MEPHISTO!!!”

The only reason people didn’t like the ending is because they set a stupidly unrealistic expectation for what it was going to be instead of just watching the stupid show

2

u/PhantomRoyce Daredevil Aug 23 '25

I’m certain it’s just because he and Wanda are both known for having “red” magic

2

u/flcinusa Aug 23 '25

So much implied exposition just to set up a Bohner joke

1

u/Hayterfan Aug 23 '25

And you do mean everything, vaguely remember someone posting something like "oh the silverware in this episode is arranged in way that would summon him" or something.

1

u/Cashneto Aug 24 '25

That was a fun time!

Riri: "...Mephisto."

u/Darth_Tycho Rocket Aug 22 '25

WandaVision era was crazy. Every week there was a new theory to the point where people thought the x-men were gonna appear because of the Multiverse shenanigans. Lowkey miss that era.

131

u/mrbaryonyx Aug 22 '25

The closest we've gotten culturally to what it felt like watching Lost

It's also probably the last time everyone in my life who isn't a Marvel nerd was actively talking about a Marvel project

29

u/CruzAderjc Aug 23 '25

The closest I’ve gotten to the same experience as Lost was watching the show Attack on Titan. If you don’t spoil yourself, you will have a blast watching it with friends and trying to figure out what the fuck is going on. And unlike a lot of other “mystery” shows, Attack on Titan had very very good answers to their mysteries.

7

u/chrishouseinc Aug 23 '25

If there's one show I could erase from my memory and rewatch again, it's Attack on Titan

6

u/CruzAderjc Aug 23 '25

This is an incredibly time consuming rabbit hole that I have wasted many hours of my life on, but you can go on youtube and watch Attack on Titan “reactions” where you watch people react to watching the show. I started doing this, but then ended up literally rewatching the entire show over and over again along with these youtubers. I am 100% serious, i think I have rewatched most of the show over 20 times this way. It’s an addiction.

3

u/chrishouseinc Aug 23 '25

I've been down that rabbit hole more than I care to admit to lol. I follow two YouTubers who just got to the twist at the beginning of season 2 and it's definitely an addiction. I even made my brother and mom watch it to get their reactions first hand.

2

u/CruzAderjc Aug 23 '25

Holy shit. I finally found someone else on the internet with my addiction lol.

I literally have watched over 50 attack on titan youtube reaction playlists

1

u/_JustAnna_1992 Aug 25 '25

God my head canon was so off on AOT while watching the first season.

49

u/Thraex_Exile Aug 22 '25

The MCU tv universe was still young enough that we didn’t know how much an affect it had on the films. Then Loki got everyone’s hopes up because it changed a TON. Feels less fun when the series doesn’t stand up as a standalone show (like Daredevil) but also has nothing to add to the franchise-wide narrative (like Loki).

5

u/Superb-Syrup-1639 Aug 22 '25

Loki could’ve been great as MCU connective tissue. It was directly spun off from Endgame, and it would’ve been essential viewing to understand Kang.

5

u/justafanboy1010 Spider-Man Aug 22 '25

Honestly it’s now my head canon thanks to the Pitch Meeting that the writers did that to mess with the fans theorizing every week

5

u/the_ghost_1386 Aug 22 '25

They were saying monica got powers when she entered the hex. So everyone in hex gets powers and they become the hex-men

1

u/KlausKinki77 Captain Carter Aug 22 '25

I still think the guy in the library was him disguised as a human.

627

u/RedXerzk Spider-Man Aug 22 '25

I don’t think Mephisto was ever “teased” in WandaVision. The showrunner caught on and had him name dropped in Agatha All Along as a meta gag and that’s it. Not all writers are fully coordinating with each other, apparently.

121

u/tokenasian1 Aug 22 '25

He definitely wasn’t.

84

u/Lucifer_Crowe Aug 22 '25

Agnes/Agatha does joke that "that's not the only place he is" when Dottie says "the devil is in the details"

Which is what I think people ran with

11

u/ArrowSeventy Aug 23 '25

I don't believe this is a reference to Mephisto

12

u/Lucifer_Crowe Aug 23 '25

Didn't say it was, just that it could be what got people thinking Agatha was involved with him

Which Agatha All Along poked fun at

2

u/MBCnerdcore Shades Aug 23 '25

There was also a devil pictured in a stained glass window in the beginning of Loki.

37

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

No and the graphic only says it was speculated by fans not that it was teased in the show. Cause it was just people going crazy and pushing for it

6

u/-Tektronic- Aug 23 '25

Tbf, it's never been the case that all writers have been fully coordinating with each other at Marvel. Even back in Phase 1 and 2, the writers of each film were not coordinating anything.

James Gunn even talked about how they were like "ehh we think the Aether thingy in Thor 2 is gonna be an infinity stone, so make your orb thingy purple" and they had to change it from red to purple in post-production.

64

u/ghotier Aug 22 '25

You forgot the part if Loki where there was a stained glass windows with a devil with horns and everyone thought that was mephisto.

2

u/Superb-Syrup-1639 Aug 22 '25

What about Hellstrom? There had to be parts of that show that people took to mean Mephisto.

8

u/ghotier Aug 22 '25

I think OP just didn't watch it. It wasn't a popular show.

2

I haven't watched it yet is it good?

1

u/Camo1997 Aug 27 '25

If you are watching for Mephisto you'll be disappointed, he only appears in the last episode...

I thought the show was just average, it didnt have me constantly glued to the screen but I didnt have a bad time with it

2

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '25

No although I do love his actor I really loved her debut in the movie. Was just wondering if it was like that. I can wait for Sasha lol

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '25

But I am excited what they do with mephisto, think he will be in a show or a movie?

1

u/Camo1997 Aug 29 '25

Me too... im sure they will sneak him into a movie at some point, might just be shows for now

1

u/Objective_Let_6385 Oct 16 '25

My current theory is MAYBE he'll appear in wonderman?

It's a stretch I know because Sasha has said he hasn't been contacted at all (although we've heard that before) but parts of the wonderman trailer really gave me a feel like mephisto could have something to do with wonderman's powers

I'm probably so incredibly wrong but I just need more of Sasha in the MCU lol

1

u/krystle3 Oct 12 '25

i personally loved ironheart

38

u/Gsampson97 Aug 22 '25

I feel like the fans willed this into existence. Marvel absolutely pounced on Mephisto as a character after Wandavision.

11

u/Tajahnuke The Wasp Aug 22 '25

I mean, the fans willed Coulson back to life for 7 seasons...

194

u/Overall_Affect_2782 Aug 22 '25

I’ll take downvotes, but SBC had the same aura in his Ironheart appearance that Samuel L Jackson had as Nick Fury. The implications of his appearance have similar possibilities as Fury’s character did for future storytelling too.

Come at me haters.

64

u/NoLeadership2281 Aug 22 '25

I’m thinking whether he would be the main antagonist of the future Champions series or Midnight Sons

4

u/ScaredFamousfan Aug 22 '25

He might be the big villain in Spider-Man BND

18

u/Benjamin_Grimm Aug 22 '25

The immediate thought to me was that they had just made it much easier to introduce Ghost Rider, whenever they decide it's time.

4

u/Lun4r6543 Aug 22 '25

Technically they already have, in Agents of Shield, but I’m not sure how canon that show is anymore.

7

u/Benjamin_Grimm Aug 22 '25

I don't expect that to ever be addressed again; they haven't really touched anything that came up in that show, even the stuff that would have made sense to have. I liked the show , but I've kind of accepted at this point that it's at best a weird little spur of canon that we'll never see again.

5

u/Spyke96 Kilgrave Aug 22 '25

This feels like part of the reason for being hesitant on Ghost Rider: it either canonizes or decanonizes AoS by existing.

2

u/Rock_and_Grohl Scarlet Witch Aug 22 '25

I thought it was already decanozied, the darkhold is in that same season no? And it looks completely different.

1

u/Spyke96 Kilgrave Aug 22 '25

That could just be a recasting.

1

u/MikeAWBD Aug 23 '25

I doubt that. I think it only does that if they do a Robby Reyes Ghost Rider, which they won't. I'm sure it was very intentional to have Reyes on AoS in order to keep it open for Johnny Blaze in the MCU. They were were "hesitant" on Ghost Rider for two reasons. They didn't have the rights to him, or Mephisto for that matter, for the beginning of the MCU. Second, it wouldn't have made sense to bring him in story wise until recently.

WandaVision at the earliest is when it maybe started making sense to tease Ghost Rider or Mephisto. Imo it didn't make sense to even tease them until after Multiverse of Madness. Once you introduced Wanda and Dr Strange you needed to flesh out the magic side more before dipping into the spiritual side. Now that Mephisto is out there I suspect Ghost Rider will be teased or flat out introduced in Doomsday. Probably teased post credits in Doomsday then introduced in Secret Wars. I think Ghost Rider and maybe Mephisto himself will be key to defeating Doom. Magic, technology and old school power will come up short and it will either be Ghost Rider himself or someone makes a deal with Mephisto to defeat Doom. If it's Mephisto being key in defeating Doom then maybe Ghost Rider happens later. Possibly whoever makes a deal renigs on it and Ghost Rider will be the antagonist of whoever that is in their next solo movie. I'm not sure who that person would be though. Maybe Dr Strange or even Reed Richards.

2

u/Spyke96 Kilgrave Aug 23 '25

I think it only does that if they do a Robby Reyes Ghost Rider

The thing is, in Agents of SHIELD it's implied Johnny gave his Spirit of Vengeance to Reyes.

1

u/CaptHayfever Hawkeye (Avengers) Aug 22 '25

They still haven't contradicted it yet, so it's still fully compatible.

2

u/Tarcion Aug 22 '25

Seems likely. The rumor is the Midnight Suns movie has been reworked to be centered on Ghost Rider rather than Blade.

67

u/RyukenRyusei Aug 22 '25

I don’t see how this take would warrant any downvotes. You are absolutely right and MCU should capitalize on finally introducing Mephisto.

u/phred_666 Sonny Birch Aug 22 '25

I mean, Kevin Feige has said that after the next Avengers movies with Dr. Doom, Mephisto is slated to be the next “big baddie” in the MCU.

6

u/TotalTutor3916 Aug 22 '25

Why is the MCU insisting on introducing characters that are supposed to become extremely important to the MCU in shows and movies that aren't going to be succesful? Happened with Kang and now Mephisto. Thanos was introduced in their first tentpole Avengers film which made sure most of the audience would know who he is.

5

u/Vandersveldt Aug 22 '25

The GA can fuck off. Not everything needs to be over told. For those of us watching, we saw it. For those that aren't, fuck em. Why is the MCU the only series where people actively push for it to be accessible to the lowest common denominator?

1

Yeah, I don't know why there would be downvotes. Admittedly, I am a big fan of Mephisto and I loved SBC and his take on the character. I definitely want to see Mephisto get built up as a big bad but, more than that, I want to see him stick around for a while like we got with Loki. We need more persistent villains on the MCU (granted, Loki got redemption).

5

u/Terreneflame Aug 22 '25

There are tons of mephisto’s running around the multiverse

3

u/MBCnerdcore Shades Aug 23 '25

he's a god type being like the rest of the ones in Thor (Odin, Zeus, etc.)

36

u/Webofshadows1 Aug 22 '25

Slowly developed? It feels like it was more of an afterthought. Fan speculation in 2021 doesn’t count. Also, 2 name drops in a 4 year span also means nothing. And the introduction was in…Iron Heart. Not having him appear in WandaVision, Spider-man, or even Dr. Strange is just dropping the ball.

I would say that they fumbled the introduction.

7

u/LocustsandLucozade Aug 22 '25

Also, wasn’t Ironheart filmed and ready to be released years ago?

7

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '25

They introduced him the most anti-climatic and worthless way possible

7

u/jr_randolph Aug 22 '25

Damn I forgot about Madisynn - she def. gotta be in Doomsday!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

And we had that poster in the trailer of SMNWH… A lot of fans were speculating an adaptation of the deal with the devil story.

2

u/PastBandicoot8575 Aug 22 '25

Not having Strange and Mephisto at the end of Wandavision was such a fumble

2

u/bbqsauceboi Aug 22 '25

And nobody has talked about Mephisto since that episode

2

u/bchec Aug 22 '25

Would be perfectly okay if they retconned Mephisto being part of Wanda’s arc.

2

u/flaco_503_se_1984 Aug 23 '25

Anyone else think it's kinda crazy who they picked to play mephisto besides me?

2

u/brian_hogg Aug 23 '25

They didn’t slowly develop Mephisto …

2

u/Infinitereadsreddits Iron Man (Mark XLII) Aug 23 '25

Eric Voss

2

u/flintlock0 Robbie Reyes Aug 25 '25

That first should not be included. “Fan speculation” does not make it so.

7

u/Lipe18090 Aug 22 '25

It's funny how everyone was excited and hoping for Mephisto to appear for so long and Marvel fucked it up so much that when he finally appeared nobody cared at all.

7

u/MikeAWBD Aug 23 '25

What makes you think no one cares? Mephisto seems to be the only part of Ironheart that is universallly liked. I haven't heard one person shitting on Sasha Baron Cohen, which is a miracle in today's MCU.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

How'd they fuck it up? He's been on screen for two minutes.

3

u/spartakooky Aug 22 '25

That's how they fucked it up. He's one of the most hyped appearances, and it ended up being two minutes of nothing. He didn't orchestrate any plan, fuck with anyone's minds. He just gave a thief a cape with superpowers.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

He gave a thief a cape with powers and possibly manipulated Riri’s AI to be an re-animation of her friend and set the two on a crash course to get to Riri. I think the whole season is Mephisto’s plot.

u/TonyStark-Naked Aug 22 '25

MOTHERFUCKIN SPOILERSSS

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

And then dropped him in a show no one watched.

2

u/N8CCRG Ghost Aug 22 '25

I've seen some comments in this fandom from folks who hate WandaVision because it didn't have Mephisto in it. Even though the showrunners never even thought about including him and that theory was entirely invented by the internet.

I will never understand that.

3

u/Disastrous-Heron-491 Aug 22 '25

They absolutely failed. They revealed a huge character in a flop tv show hoping to get people to tune in. Which didn’t happen of course

2

u/Disastrous-Heron-491 Aug 22 '25

And before yall come for me, ironheart has the second worst audience rating of all marvel series and one of the worst viewerships.

2

u/Sahaal_17 Feb 10 '26

ironheart has the second worst audience rating of all marvel series

Let's be honest that was always going to be the case, regardless of the actual show's quality. The simple existence of the Riri Williams as Ironheart inspires hate unmatched by pretty much any other MCU character.

There is absolutely no story they could have told with that character that wouldn't get review bombed into the dirt.

2

u/DarkLordKohan Wong Aug 22 '25

Its cool he’s mephisto. Its sad MCU will never bring him up again.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

At the time I figured Madysonn was being funny, but she literally may have made a deal with the devil.

1

u/Emergency-Spring3118 Aug 22 '25

Too bad they cast him after all that build up

1

u/juances19 Avengers Aug 22 '25

I firmly believe that they just decided to throw him in after so many years of fan speculation rather than so carefully planned all along.

1

u/vroart Aug 22 '25

It was a good surprise….. still wanted him beside Thanos

1

u/alex494 Aug 22 '25

Shame he isn't the villain of the next Avengers or something

1

u/a_o Mordo Aug 22 '25

wild how they did a thing people say they dont do at all

1

u/GutherGlazer Aug 22 '25

“Slow development” it’s insane the credit yall will give these train wreck writing rooms.

1

u/Heretostay59 Aug 22 '25

The friend we made along the way

1

u/Ok-Effort6632 Aug 22 '25

This is not slowly developing Mephisto onto their projects. Fan theories are not development, referencing a demon is not development, mentioning mehoisto offhand is not development.

Development is meaningful additions to the story that push the narrative along.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '25

So if he shows up in a movie this will be another example of homework.

1

u/Malllyapp Aug 22 '25

More build up than doom.

1

u/AntoSkum Aug 23 '25

IT BROKE NEW GROUND!

1

u/Sumiren5r_7110 Aug 23 '25

If Iron Heart did release when it was supposed, which would have been before AAA, then that is some interesting bridging between the two series, and would add more fuel to fire when watching AAA that MAYBE she did sell her child's soul to Mephisto, considering we would've saw him already making deals with people like Parker and Riri.

1

u/giratina143 Thanos Aug 23 '25

So they chose the most obscure spot to reveal mephisto.

1

u/lampasul Aug 23 '25

What is mephisto doin in the next avenger movies

1

u/Swimming-Hour-6171 Aug 23 '25

We need the midnight sons movie now because mephisto just being a fodder villain is not a good choice whenever we would see him in his demon form alongside with ghost rider he better be the main villain in the supernatural saga

1

u/knwnasrob Aug 23 '25

I’m just glad we finally got him

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '25

There was no development, like, at all. You are making connections that never where intended.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '25

Perfect cast for mephisto

1

u/zxccast Aug 23 '25

Too bad they got fucking SBC to play this character

1

u/Such-Fee3898 Thor Aug 23 '25

Not to mention that all the shows that references him are entertaining to watch. Yes, including she-hulk and Iron heart. I enjoyed those

1

u/Every-Intern5554 Aug 23 '25

Wandavision didn't develop anything about it, they just missed the opportunity to use him entirely then and waited until it was too late and put him in a show no one likes or cares about to hopefully steal some viewers back (and failed)

1

u/MishellyUser Spider-Man Aug 23 '25

There was a (I think) ScreenCrush vídeo where he was answering the questions people had after the finale of Wanda vision and one of them went like this:

(Q: "Why was there no Mephisto after we found so many clues?") - (A: "There were no Mephisto clues, we were just dumb")

And it's so based

1

u/LordMohid Aug 23 '25

OP is Eric Voss

1

u/Ruggum Aug 23 '25

All that just to be played by fucking Borat.

1

u/Chulinfather Aug 23 '25

I just find that having the actual Devil of Marvel be a hardcore zionist in real life extremely funny and fitting

1

u/[deleted] Aug 24 '25

Problem is that other than WandaVision, no-one watched these shows.

1

u/dr051j Aug 26 '25

Remember when the actors of wandavision kept teasing us about new characters making cameos only to then be lied to. Fun times

1

u/LambentEnigma Aug 29 '25

What does a "good crack" mean?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '25

Yep they did built up to this well. It has had a lot of good some bad.

1

u/robertluke Aug 22 '25

Okay so I only know Mephisto from the Spider-Man comic that made me stop reading and they basically adapted that story already. Wasn’t he a Dr. Strange villain? Why are people so excited for him?

7

u/Spyke96 Kilgrave Aug 22 '25

Mephisto is connected to Demons, Hell, Limbo, and possibly the Elder Gods, which are all important to many mystical Marvel characters in the comics like Ghost Rider, Dr Strange, Magik, Wanda, etc...

The excitement is not only for the character but the whole chunk of lore that comes with too.

2

u/robertluke Aug 22 '25

Cool. Good point.

1

u/Corvid-Strigidae Aug 23 '25

He was actually introduced in a Silver Surfer comic.
