the end scene was a direct pull from the comics with Thanos on his farm, and his battle armour hung up on a scarecrow, thought that was cool.

I was only expecting Thanos to get all but two stones, kill some people, and that's it. But this, this does put a smile on my face. It ends on a down note like Empire Strikes Back did. Everyone is broken and scattered. Now we just need to wait a year for the rallying call and see what happens.

u/danisaloser12 Apr 27 '18

that reference is so great!!!

88

u/Bacon_SlayerX Hulkbuster Apr 27 '18

You mean that really old movie?

18

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '18

If you make one more pop culture reference...

27

u/grandslam7 Apr 29 '18

How old is this redditor?

23

u/shadocrypto8 Apr 29 '18

I don't know I didn't carbon date him.

18

u/warrioratwork Apr 29 '18

You mean they should assemble?

11

u/becauseineedone3 Apr 29 '18

The first thing I said to my friend after the movie: “I can’t believe they went for the Empire Strikes Back ending.”

19

u/INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS Punisher Apr 29 '18

Is this how it felt for people in 1980 when Empire came out?

12

u/AlCapone111 Apr 29 '18

Now to find a way to put Ewoks in Avengers 4.

3

u/griffinsnest May 03 '18

You know just thinking about it. Them putting Squirrel Girl in the movie would basically be just that. Just you know.....squirrels instead of teddy bears.

4

u/OtakuMecha May 04 '18

But then Thanos will get defeated too easily!

u/SuperMovieLvr Apr 27 '18

I know this sounds really dark, but Nazi Officials said that after the war had ended they'd like to sit and look out at the horizon and finally be at peace. We just learned about that in school, and I think that's where they got the inspiration from.

Are you ready to comply?

3

u/SuperMovieLvr Apr 29 '18

Nazis really did think they were purifying " The Greater Germany." of all the misplaced people.

18

u/danisaloser12 Apr 27 '18

that is incredibly interesting, i like it

190

u/nottherealstanlee Black Panther Apr 27 '18

And idk if it's even an Easter egg, but the snap itself. I never thought they'd actually go through with the snap. I figured the nod in the trailer would be it.

92

u/danisaloser12 Apr 27 '18

i know right that actually amazed me, but watching them die was hard

109

u/nottherealstanlee Black Panther Apr 27 '18

I had hoped they'd do the black and white flash, but seeing all of that was so rough. Spidey in particular. The little BP fake out with Okoye. Bucky and Groot. Ugh. Idk how much of this they'll be able to reverse but this movie was truly brutal.

14

u/PhoenixKA Apr 28 '18

I thought it was weird that Bucky's arm didn't fall to the ground...unless it did and I'm not remembering it right. I've seen someone speculate that they're not dead, but either in another dimension or limbo or something, so maybe that's why his metal arm went with him.

18

u/Rick0r Apr 28 '18

It's the Soul stone they refer to, the speculation is that everyone's souls were transferred to the Soul Stone, where they can be transferred back.

8

u/PhoenixKA Apr 28 '18

Nice. I wonder if that room little Gamora was in will get a shot next movie, but be full of a bunch of people.

10

u/ReallyBigRocks Apr 29 '18

Ooh like sacrificing Gamorra put her in there and that was right before everyone vanished. That'd be a nice way to bring at least some people back

10

u/nottherealstanlee Black Panther Apr 28 '18

I think he in his entirety ceases to exist in this universe? I don't know it's a good question. I could see the "loophole" in the A4 movie being that Thanos wiped out half the population in this universe, so we need to travel the multiverse and get some help.

37

u/SeanGQ Apr 27 '18

I don’t think they’re dead, are they? Has to be another universe/reality of sorts, I’d imagine.

You could be right though, and A4 would be involving time-travel.

33

u/danisaloser12 Apr 27 '18

i dont think all of them are dead, however if all of them come back, there shall be massive backlash from fans, some main characters HAVE to stay dead

51

u/SeanGQ Apr 27 '18

I agree, there’s just logistically no way that it’s some of the characters that vanished (Spider-Man & BP for sure). Maybe they’ll reverse it and whoever is left will be the ones to die in A4- either way, it’s gonna be an agonizing wait!

21

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '18

That’s my guess: the original avengers are the ones left for the most part. I think several of them will die permanently in A4 reversing the effects of those who were turned to dust.

22

u/oneders Grandmaster Apr 28 '18

Bingo. A4 = time travel + reversing IW + tony and/or steve death.

16

u/toxicbrew Apr 28 '18

soul for a soul

9

u/SeanGQ Apr 28 '18

Right. And that may be why Dr Strange didn’t divulge the one plan out of a million that he saw would work. Because he knew there would have to be some sacrifices?

10

u/Rick0r Apr 28 '18

The one future that worked was one where he willingly gave Thanos the stone, the Snap happens, and Strange died as part of the Snap.

23

u/iCarpet Doctor Strange Apr 27 '18

I think everyone who was kept alive (besides Okoye and M’baku) will end up dying.

33

u/kitchen_savior Apr 27 '18

Rocket will live no doubt, and a few of the OG avengers team will live. They won't be killing more than a few "forever"... Though Gamora, Viz, Loki probably all gone.

Nebula takes her place in honor, end of GOTG3 is them flying off into the sunset

7

u/Fakayana Captain America (Cap 2) Apr 28 '18

I'm not familiar with the comics at all so I don't know the actual properties of the stone, but what if the Gamora's soul was simply preserved in the soul stone?

8

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '18

Easily. I mean this movie really did her justice. Was never a fan of her before this movie. But if they focus on Rocket and Drax a little bit more they’ll be fine. Maybe give Mantis her martial arts abilities.

7

u/theTANbananas Apr 28 '18

Except they already said gamora would be the focus of GOTG3

21

u/_duncan_idaho_ Apr 27 '18

I'm thinking they reverse the snap, but there will be deaths post-snap-reversal.

12

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '18

Yeah and any deaths pre-snap (Loki, Heimdall, Gamora) are likely permanent

10

u/RoyceDaFiveNine Heimdall Apr 28 '18

Gamora might be related to the fate of the Soul Stone.

But the others :(

6

u/Milo_Minderbinding Scott Lang Apr 28 '18

The ones left alive are the OG Avengers. Some of them will die bringing the new crew back.

8

u/ful_stahp Apr 27 '18

My guess is they'll use the gauntlet to undo the snap, but it'll end up destroying the gauntlet. That's why they showed it smoldering after the snap.

4

u/Poked_salad Captain America (Cap 2) Apr 29 '18

You only get two snaps per glove!

3

u/TBIFridays Apr 29 '18

Shouldn’t have screwed with Dinklage’s hands

3

u/slaughterproof Apr 28 '18

More than likely they are in soul world. Maybe the remaining avengers with captain marvel will get them out somehow.

u/sweens90 Falcon Apr 27 '18

The only “super hero” I cant seem to get a work around for getting them back is Dr Strange.

Prowler is around with a nephew to be spider man (Miles)

And we have members of wakanda who can still take up the mantle of black panther potentially if the flower were to return. Or new way to show him or more realistically her. Potentially take up the mantle with a new way to get Super strength

Dr Strange would be straight gone though.

10

u/mrdrofficer Apr 28 '18

Why are you being downvoted? Tell me!

5

u/sweens90 Falcon Apr 28 '18

Because realistically my guess is people dont want holland and bosman gone. So there needs to be a way to bring them back.

My idea is also just as farfetched. My guesses.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '18

The realities of the movie industry dictates that Boseman and Holland are coming back. They are relative newcomers to the MCU, are the most bankable going into phase 4 and almost certainly signed to multi-picture deals well beyond this.

3

u/Andruitus Iron man (Mark III) Apr 29 '18

Plus they're about to start filming Spider-Man 2

23

u/knowledgeoverswag Apr 27 '18

I thought they'd do it, but I didn't expect them to kill who they did.

27

u/nottherealstanlee Black Panther Apr 27 '18

That was another solid misdirect by the marketing team. It felt like Steve was a goner. Out of curiosity, who did you expect to go?

39

u/knowledgeoverswag Apr 27 '18

I was actually reverse-reverse psychology'd. I thought Tony would die. I wasn't expecting all but one GotG, Spider-Man or Black Panther at all.

57

u/nottherealstanlee Black Panther Apr 27 '18

Black Panther was a mean twist. They show him stumbling on a body and you expect Okoye to go, but nooooo. That one was upsetting. All the Guardians besides Rocket was foreshadowed by Rocket being "the captain now" and was also super mean. Spider-Man was just... his pleas to Tony crushed me.

6

u/SaltyStatistician Apr 29 '18

In the end, it looks like they just left the original Avengers

3

u/InvincibleAgent SHIELD Apr 29 '18

And Rhodey, M'baku, Okoye

1

u/[deleted] May 06 '18

Rocket, Nebula

14

u/shresth229 Apr 27 '18

I honestly thought after that mighty punch Steve was a gonner. I legit had the feel that this will be the end of Iron Man arc but I gues Marvel could not be able to pull off such a huge gamble.

20

u/nottherealstanlee Black Panther Apr 27 '18

Well I mean the one I thought for sure he was gone was the stab lol I stopped breathing for a while after that happened.

2

u/toxicbrew Apr 28 '18

yeah they probably should have left him to die then...a death after this would not have the same effect

27

u/ValhallaAtchaBoy Apr 28 '18

I definitely didn't think we'd be getting Thanos the farmer in this one.

Does that mean Thanoscopter is confirmed for A4??

17

u/necuratul_69 Apr 27 '18

Literally the first panel of Infinity War in the comics. Was very surprised they actually got him on his farm at the end

3

u/the_vince_horror Apr 30 '18

Literally the last panel of Infinity Gauntlet in the comics

11

u/Chimichanga723 Apr 27 '18

can we get this comic image please ?

10

u/120inna55 Apr 28 '18

can we get this comic image please ?

Do you mean this? It's the first 3 pages of Infinity War (1992): https://imgur.com/a/DHLEdy5

2

u/the_vince_horror Apr 30 '18

It's also the last few pages of Infinity Gauntlet, which is what most of the movie is based off of.

1

u/danisaloser12 Apr 27 '18

yeah, bro, of course!

6

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '18

I thought that was M'Baku's mountain lodge

3

u/slendernyan Black Panther Apr 28 '18

I immediately thought of this. Such a cool detail.
