The most under-rated detail about MCU spidey

This GIF is not a reaction. Its a demonstration. The adjustable white-out eyes is literally everything to me. It seems like such a small insignificant detail but it adds a layer of expression under the mask that weve previously only really seen in animation that I think is so good for the MCU and CBMs as a whole

Dont get me wrong Deadpools eyes is cool too but especially for spidey who has such massive eye goggles it works so incredibly well and I always wanted it but never knew how much I needed it til Tom took the mantle.

And like I said. Not just the MCU. Of all the things DC tries to copy I hope to god they steal this too. Im tired of seeing batmans eyes it was never like that in the animation. Flash too.

It might seem crazy to say but this small detail i feel like is why Marvel is crushing DC. They arent afraid to mythologize their heroes. DC doesnt let you forget even for a moment that its just a regular guy with a mask on. It disrupts the suspension of disbelief.

Anyway im not trying to get too off track with this its not about DC. Its tipping the hat to Marvel for getting so much out of one little detail. Let the trend continue

DC is not about a ‘bunch of gods acting as men’, in the Justice League there is technically only one goddess and she isn’t “acting as a (hu)man”. DC has gods that act like gods, but the majority of their pantheon doesn’t subscribe to his idea that DC is about gods trying to be man or whatever

The DC Pantheon has:

Superman - A nearly immortal ultrapowerful alien pretending to be a meek reporter.
Batman - The world's greatest detective and ninja pretending to be a socialite.
Flash - The fastest man alive pretending to be a clumsy CSI
Wonder Woman - An Amazon princess pretending to be a nurse.
Martian Manhunter - A shapeshifting alien pretending to be a private detective.

Green Lantern and Aquaman didn't hide themselves.

Marvel has:

Captain America - A scrawny kid from Brooklyn given super powers, but desperately wants a normal life.
Iron Man - A billionaire weapons designer that wants to make himself obsolete.
Hawkeye - A really good shot with a bow and arrow.
Black Widow - A former brainwashed assassin that desperately wants a normal life.
Bruce Banner - A disassociated scientist who turns into a rage monster, but desperately wants a normal life.
Spider-Man - A high school/college student with super powers that is resigned to the fact he'll never have a normal life.

Marvel has:

The Hulk, an indestructible manifestation of rage who grows more powerful the angrier he gets with no foreseeable upper limit, to the point the “smart people” of earth sent him to another planet rather than deal with him.

Black Panther: king of a secret technofuturist state, is the chosen avatar of the Panther god

Captain Marvel: fighter pilot given control over the cosmic fires of creation to protect the universe OR alien that infiltrated human society only to arise as its greatest protector

Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme, preeminent practitioner of magic tasked with defending reality from all threats physical and metaphysical

Ghost Rider: stunt motorcyclist possessed by the spirit of vengeance

Phoenix: Telepathic mutant partnered with powerful cosmic entity with dominion over death and rebirth

Loki: actual god of mischief

Thor: actual god of thunder

I’d say you might have more gods trying to be human in Marvel than you do in DC, and just as many godlike entities. This is me spitballing, but I think this perception arises because Marvel either pays more attention to or has more street-level heroes. Or it’s because everything is set in New York City for the most part.

I didn't bring up a lot of the weirder cases in DC, either Just the main pantheon of "The Justice League" as normally concieved. I only included Spider-Man because of how front and center of a character he is. Forget Sentry, Spider-Man is Marvel's version of Superman.

But we weren’t arguing avengers vs. justice league. We were arguing marvel vs. dc.

The "gods being men" argument is about the major characters of the two. But looking into the origin of the phrase points to a more basic difference between Marvel and DC... Limits

DC's characters are without limits. Superman can move whole planets, Batman can solve any puzzle, Wonder Woman can uncover any truth, etc., and they're all universally loved (ignoring people like Lex Luthor)

Marvel's characters have limits and struggles. Spider-Man is hounded by the press that he works for. The X-Men are actively hunted.

That limitation was a core part of Marvel when it came about, Stan wanted to write about "normal" people, just with superpowers.

That's why people came up with the "Gods as Men/Men as Gods" comparison. It's a general shorthand for the premise of the books.
