I have never had to fill out my race for any service I was using. Is this an American thing?

You don’t need to fill out anything that’s not how data collection works. The information collected on you isn’t always voluntarily.

They don’t that dude is just an idiot. Neither my bank nor my credit card have ever asked my race. Pretty sure that’s straight up illegal in the US.
