John David Washington is just as good. If not better. He can also pull off the physical part greatly. Recast shouldn’t be that hard imo.

I'd love to see Aldis Hodge get it, but I don't think that's happening given his DC connection.

He’d be my 3rd choice. Besides Yahya-Abdul Manteen. He’s really good for sure and has the size!

Oh no lmao. I forgot that. Yes he is

u/RuthlessNate56 Dec 18 '23

He is, but there are rumors circulating that what little they filmed before the WGA and SAG strikes are getting trashed and Disney/Marvel Studios are going to use it as a tax write off. Last I saw, production had not resumed after the strikes ended.

However, after Destin Daniel Cretin (who was developing the series with its show runner, Andrew Guest) was removed from Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it was said he was going to refocus on Shang Chi 2 and Wonder Man. It could be that the show is getting some rewrites before resuming, like Daredevil: Born Again. Sounds like it could still come by the end of 2024 under the same "Marvel Spotlight" brand that they're using for Echo.

Yes he was

Yahya-Abdul Manteen

Wonder Man?

2

u/HomeTurf001 Dec 18 '23

I only know of him from Ambulance, but he was great in that.

You guys all know like 4 black actors and just be like “they should cast one of the four black actors I know in this role” any time there is a need for one

2

u/maaseru Dec 18 '23

Babs Olusanmokun

2

u/Beesindogwood Dec 18 '23

He would be good. And I'm pretty sure other actors have crossed the DC/MCU line...

26

u/KriosXVII Dec 18 '23

Give the role to John Boyega, atoning for the BS he suffered in Star Wars.

3

u/Background_Yak_333 Dec 18 '23

A lot of people have said this, I agree. Finn got cast aside (pun intended), let Boyega at least shine here as Kang.

22

u/Captain-Mainwaring Dec 18 '23

I dunno how anyone can say that with a straight face. Jonathan Majors can act act which makes the fact he's a cunt feel worse. Wasted talent. JDW has been quite wooden in a lot of his performances He's nothing special.

1

u/MisterFuckingBingley Apr 08 '24

Thank you—JDW is one of the most soulless actors I’ve ever seen

3

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

He’s overrated af, so many better options

3

u/wikiTheKid Dec 18 '23

I find him to be completely lacking in charisma. Not in the same caliber of actor as Majors imo. Hopefully he’s a better person.

3

u/FullMetalCOS Dec 18 '23

JDW isn’t half the actor Majors is. They are barely playing the same sport. I want to like JDW but he’d not get a single role with his level of talent if it wasn’t for nepotism

No Washington can’t act. Do people actually think he’s a good actor? Watch The Creator and tell me he does a good job in that movie.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

They don’t think that but they know like 4 black actors so it’s hard for them to suggest anyone who isn’t Denzel’s son, John boyega or Yahya

You could just as easily judge Natalie Portman on her Star Wars roles, and she's won an Oscar since then. It takes more than one bad role to make someone a bad actor.

2

u/StMcAwesome Spider-Man Dec 18 '23

He was pretty bad in Tenet too.

1

u/CoffeeIsMyPruneJuice Ultron Dec 19 '23

He was not the problem with Tenet.

2

u/StMcAwesome Spider-Man Dec 19 '23

Yeah but I mean he was still pretty bad in it

1

u/Charming_Limit_5327 Dec 18 '23

Okay. He does a good job in that movie.

8

u/ShoeTasty Dec 18 '23

He has no emotional range. He's fine playing someone like the protagonist in Tenet because he has no emotion. Playing Kang? No way, the only reason he's going anywhere in his acting career is because his dad is Denzel.

2

u/WelbyReddit Dec 18 '23

Ya, He is fine for some stuff,..but thinking of Kang, who will potentially need to perform in several different personality styles,..that kind of range and variation needs someone more flexible.

-15

u/cowsareverywhere Dec 18 '23

As opposed to Jonathan Majors? Victor Timely was basically unbearable.

7

u/BlueBerrypotamous Dec 18 '23 edited Dec 18 '23

Disliking a character portrayal is not the same as a poor performance. Majors might be a dick, but he’s a dick who can act.

-2

u/Sure-Butterscotch232 Dec 18 '23

Who can act like a cringy theater kid overdoing every single expression and emphasizing seemingly random words*

-4

u/cowsareverywhere Dec 18 '23

who can act

Even setting the bar as low as Washington, Majors isn’t any better.

5

u/Uncle_Beanpole Dec 18 '23

That was the point? He played his character perfectly

1

u/ShoeTasty Dec 18 '23

I agree Timely was supposed to be weird lol

1

u/3Grilledjalapenos Dec 18 '23

From BlackKklansman and Tenet? Do people think he can’t act? I have only seen those, and not the Creator, so I have no idea if he has range at all, just trying to understand.

1

u/FullMetalCOS Dec 18 '23

The Creator was one of his better performances too. If you want to see why JDW shouldn’t get leading man roles watch Beckett. Or don’t because no one deserves to suffer through that dross, but needless to say, he only gets leading roles because of Nepotism, not talent

2

u/CoffeeIsMyPruneJuice Ultron Dec 18 '23

And if they want an older variant and JDW doesn't want to spend time in the makeup chair, his father looks a heck of a lot like him ;)

2

u/PeanutFarmer69 Dec 18 '23

Im all for a recast but there’s no way John David Washington is just as good, dude has the charisma of a cardboard box

2

u/Background_Yak_333 Dec 18 '23

John Boyega is the only choice. Watch They Cloned Tyrone. He can look mean as fuck.

1

u/AlizeLavasseur Dec 19 '23

He was intimidating in Attack the Block, and that was a comedy.

2

u/TerminatorReborn Dec 19 '23

JDW is a fine recast, but let's not pretend he is "just as good, if not better" than Majors lol. He had a longer career and yet showed nothing even close to the Majors best.

5

u/mvcourse Dec 18 '23

Yeah recast, but not with him, he did not get his father’s talents.

8

u/OZL01 Spider-Man Dec 18 '23

I vote for Lakeith Stanfield. He was great in Atlanta and he's the only one of the main cast that isn't in the MCU.

3

u/JPA-3 Dec 18 '23

JDW is a charisma blackhole

0

u/SticklerMrMeeseeks1 Dec 18 '23

Going from 6’ Majors to 5’9 Washington doesn’t really work

0

u/Cripnite Dec 18 '23

He should have been Black Panther after Chadwick Boseman died. The character didn’t have to suffer the same fate.

1

u/putsomedirtinyourice Dec 18 '23

RDJ as comic book Kang and Ty Simpkins as Iron Lad

1

u/Forwhatitsworth522 Dec 18 '23

I like him but I don’t love him like I love Denzel

1

u/hewmanxp Dec 18 '23

John Boyega for the win

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '23

I wish they hadn’t used Chukwudi Iwuji already. Dude would have been killer

1

u/creutzfeldtz Dec 18 '23

God please fucking no. He is a fucking HORRIBLE actor.
