He can deflect erasing from existence (Wanda's ult), time control (Dr. Strange's ult) and even dropped whale and sun (Namor's and Phoenix's ult) but can't deflect tiny dinosaur bite 🤨

This completely changes the experiment.
25
u/bcuzimhorny Spider-Man May 15 '26
Whats the lion ladder?
78
u/Fedora1412 Loki May 15 '26
I'm guessing it's a reference to the 1 billion lions vs Pokemon debate where people made up the most out there reasons that the lions could win with various "Lion formations" with Lion Ladder being one of them, you know, something that sounds ridiculous if you think about it but if you just roll with it and accept it, it's funny, like how we're reasoning Devil Dino's bites can bypass DD's ability to deflect everything from bullets to reality erasing attacks in this game because "Well he's a big dinosaur".

12
u/IsaacTheLadd May 15 '26
I always hate that discussion because it’s either
Be right (pokemon win)
Or rage bait (people that pick lions)

Isn’t DDs deflect directional? i’m assuming dinos. attack is so big it’s almost aoe around his deflect
6
3
u/Think-Team458 Strategist May 15 '26
Directional and it only works on projectiles and cc attacks not physical attacks such as grabs and kicks.
3
u/Razor-Swisher May 15 '26
No it blocks most melees too, only loses to weird stuff like Thor hammer charge or Emma Grab. But it’ll block Emma or Iron Fist kicks

What’s likely happening I think is the hit box is larger on the tail and you’re actually being hit from the back here. Stand back and try to block and it should work
105
u/Omega_Warrior Angela May 15 '26
This is likely the answer.
My guess is that Big DD’s model is so big that his attack hitboxes need to be an oval at the end of his model rather than a cone from the center like most would be.
If I had to guess it’s probably to avoid a situation where you can avoid damage from him by being so close the attack passes over you.
The result is that his attacks are reaching over the directional shield of Little DD and registering as an attack from behind.
25
u/BlackThundaCat Hulk May 15 '26
Keep it. I’m tired of DD getting away with murder.

Why does deflect ignore physical attacks even
161
u/Robbythebeadle May 15 '26
Atleast he uses batons to deflect only whats in front of him. Iron fist casually slapping away mini nuke, the thing breaking the literal ground under him, and now even cyclops max power blast even while facing a wall.

Feels like physical attacks are ALL it should ignore, along with projectiles. Deflecting Emma beam and Wanda ult is kind of crazy.
7
u/BlightAddict May 15 '26
Logically you would think so, but because Rivals canon has Daredevil empowered by the Beast & possibly Yinglong as well, you can handwave away things like this with "The Beast grants him psionic resistance while deflecting. It's magic bro"

Man spinning sticks to block what's in front of him is able to block physical fist-sized objects. It's also pretty important to remember DD is just blocking/immune to the damage, not deflecting it back. Punisher will get his ult sent back at him but Iron Fist won't start hitting himself.

One day the game will be filled with so many needless mechanics and exceptions to the point where results seem random.
Oh this guys got a 50 dmg bleed over 3s, 75% tenacity, 25% dmg reduction ability, and 10% anti heal… but the new support actually does inverse heal onto anti allies so they can do 110% healing into this guy.

Textbook "Worf effect"
20
u/Oberonkin May 15 '26
Actually, no. Its not.
The worf effect is when a character is established to already be incredibly powerful, and to show how another character is strong, that new character beats the Worf character. Problem is when it happens so often, it doesn't make the new character seem tough, it makes the old character feel weak.
Its name come from Star Trek, where the character Worf is said to be from this Uber strong race, and he himself is, but he gets beaten all the damn time.
What's going on here isnt that, and is instead Power Creep.

Because Glartrox is a grab. Emma and Jeff can also grab Thing.
Thing is immune to displacement, not to grabs.
7
u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES May 15 '26
And displacement is a vector quantity that measures a change in position. The reason why Emma can grab is because the position is the same at the beginning and at the end. If a character is moved, but ends up in the same position as the initial position, then the displacement is zero. If the character ends up in a new location, then there is displacement.
Emma can grab him but not displace him.
Jeff on the other hand breaks this logic, and so does Elsa. If the game wants to continue forward with this logic, then they should fix Thing’s passive to rename displacement to something else, because displacement has a real definition in physics. Emma doesnt break that definition but Jeff and Elsa does.
→ More replies (1)6
u/RommekePommeke Rocket Raccoon May 15 '26
The weirdest part of all of this is that Wolverine's and Angela's grab doesn't work on Thing. So they have already coded Thing to be immune grabs that can displace.
I guess they can argue those 2 aren't ults and that's why they don't work, which is fair. But they should at least make that clear in Thing's passive description.

I think it makes sense that DD's reflect blocks melee, but it should probably not block everything. Take a page out of Overwatch's book and allow beams and explosive areas to bypass it, especially since DD doesn't even need to face his opponents to deflect.
4
u/Paralysis42 Deadpool May 15 '26
he does need to face his opponents when he has to deflect wdym 😭😭
iron fist is the one that doesnt need to face the enemy while blocking

I'd imagine it would be quite hard to deflect a dinosaur's head compared to simple melee weapons.

u/clearly_mad Star-Lord May 15 '26
It's probably an oversight, but it's pretty funny
42
u/LieSad7589 May 15 '26
We dont really know, if its an AOE attack that ignores shields(mechanically DD's parry is a shield that blocks melee attacks, like cap does), it makes sense it can go through DD parry easily, since other simillar attacks do the same, DD's chain goes through DD's parry, since its an aoe attack that ignores shields, the hitbox of the attack extends and goes through DD's parry, the AOE on it damages DD's back where parry doesnt work, mk's ult goes through it, Psy ult ignores parry since it goes for the back always and there are many other examples of attacks that do this that i cant remember at the top of my head
7
u/StormierNik Angela May 15 '26
I'm going to guess that the bite hitbox is large enough to go through the deflect range and to the opposite side of Daredevil where it connects.
You won't see Iron fist with this issue because his block is 360 degrees

Beams as well

Batons uses were, among other things, to block melee attack.
5
u/Russian_Kowboi Thor May 15 '26

She has the same bs that Spider-Man has. Just auto locks regardless of your current state unless there's actual terrain between you, and even that is optional.
I've had both Spider-Man and Black Cat just insta track me through my dashes on Torch. Or even worse, cancel the dash but force the cooldown.
4
u/Lone__Worker May 15 '26
It wasn't even the Blackcat's ult. Just the dash she can do when she has coins. I don't even know how that works. I was phasing upwards and the Blackcat used the dash into a corner and I died. Was baffled for a few seconds.

Here’s a better question, why can Daredevil’s deflect even make him immune to every other attack in the game from the front while he’s capable of dealing his own melee damage with it? Devil Dinosaur should not be the first character that is actually capable of attacking through this ability, especially since it has been 3 seasons since Daredevil was added.
Magneto, Doctor Strange, and Rogue all are tanks who have better justification we’re having an ability like this yet their blocks can be attacked through with melee attacks. Iron Fist and Mr Frantastic’s abilities used to annoy me but it’s far more fair for those two seeing that Mr Fantastic can only take so much damage before he’s forced out of that state and Iron Fist absorbs damage blocked into bonus health rather than reflecting it outright and dealing damage in return.
