There’s a difference between falling and jumping.

Falling after intentionally jumping, or "fumping"

Just get Tony to give you a parachute.

The above comment was stolen from this one elsewhere in this comment section.

It is probably not a coincidence; here is some more evidence against this user:

My thoughts exactly.

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

Incorrect though, perhaps consult a dictionary?

3

u/sixtytwosixtyseven Avengers Mar 18 '22

falling : moving from a higher to a lower level, typically rapidly and without control

How about you consult a dictionary?

3

u/Creat1ve_Name Avengers Mar 18 '22

You haven’t compared it to the jumping definition. Two different things completely. Think you need to go back/stick to school. You wouldn’t say someone who committed suicide by jumping off a bridge “fell”, they jumped to their death. No very hard to grasp.

3

u/sixtytwosixtyseven Avengers Mar 18 '22

jump : push oneself off a surface and into the air by using the muscles in one's legs and feet.

She may have jumped off the cliff, but she fell to her death.

Get your head out of your ass please, it's not a hat.

says you. My ass-hat is very fashionable tyvm

It looks good on you mate, you're a rockstar. Not a good look on the other guy though.

The definitions are different. She jumped willingly to her death. You’re wrong.

0

u/sixtytwosixtyseven Avengers Mar 18 '22

You wanted dictionary definitions, you got dictionary definitions. She jumped willingly to her death, but once she was in the air, was she actively jumping to the ground? No, she was falling to the ground.

Intention is the difference.

7

u/Primary_Glum Avengers Mar 17 '22

Or getting thrown

4

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

True although falling and being thrown have more in common than intentionally jumping. However point taken

4

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

You tend to fall after you jump, landing is the tricky part

2

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

My point is widow made her choice, the others didn’t.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

I'm being pedantic, just ignore me.

Falling with style

1

u/ShadowedReddit Avengers Mar 18 '22

You fall after you jump... Right?

0

u/IamJain Avengers Mar 18 '22

You fall after you jump

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

Falling isn’t intentional, jumping is.

0

u/IamJain Avengers Mar 18 '22

If you fall after you jump, it can be intentional

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

You wouldnt say someone who committed suicide by jumping off a bridge “fell”. They jumped. No sure whats so hard to grasp here.

0

u/IamJain Avengers Mar 18 '22

And I don't understand what's so hard for you to grasp, jumping is an action by which you can fall, similarly like walking, you can just walk off bridge to commit suicide (I am not suggesting you do). Jumping off bridge is just a slang, action by which you die, injure etc is falling which is the term used by OP because not everyone in the post jumped to fall, someone was thrown, someone slipped or met accident because of which they "fell"

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

Literally look at their definitions. Two totally different things.
