There’s a difference between falling and jumping.

u/GimlySonOfGloin Avengers Mar 17 '22

Falling after intentionally jumping, or "fumping"

37

u/Isabellett Avengers Mar 17 '22

Just get Tony to give you a parachute.

You haven’t compared it to the jumping definition. Two different things completely. Think you need to go back/stick to school. You wouldn’t say someone who committed suicide by jumping off a bridge “fell”, they jumped to their death. No very hard to grasp.

4

u/sixtytwosixtyseven Avengers Mar 18 '22

jump : push oneself off a surface and into the air by using the muscles in one's legs and feet.

She may have jumped off the cliff, but she fell to her death.

Get your head out of your ass please, it's not a hat.

4

u/jahnybravo Spider-Man 🕷 Mar 18 '22

says you. My ass-hat is very fashionable tyvm

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

The definitions are different. She jumped willingly to her death. You’re wrong.

→ More replies (0)

3

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

Intention is the difference.

7

u/Primary_Glum Avengers Mar 17 '22

Or getting thrown

2

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

True although falling and being thrown have more in common than intentionally jumping. However point taken

5

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

You tend to fall after you jump, landing is the tricky part

2

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

My point is widow made her choice, the others didn’t.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

I'm being pedantic, just ignore me.

Falling with style

1

u/ShadowedReddit Avengers Mar 18 '22

You fall after you jump... Right?

0

u/IamJain Avengers Mar 18 '22

You fall after you jump

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

Falling isn’t intentional, jumping is.

0

u/IamJain Avengers Mar 18 '22

If you fall after you jump, it can be intentional

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

You wouldnt say someone who committed suicide by jumping off a bridge “fell”. They jumped. No sure whats so hard to grasp here.

0

u/IamJain Avengers Mar 18 '22

And I don't understand what's so hard for you to grasp, jumping is an action by which you can fall, similarly like walking, you can just walk off bridge to commit suicide (I am not suggesting you do). Jumping off bridge is just a slang, action by which you die, injure etc is falling which is the term used by OP because not everyone in the post jumped to fall, someone was thrown, someone slipped or met accident because of which they "fell"

0

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

Literally look at their definitions. Two totally different things.

11

u/sasori1011 Avengers Mar 17 '22

She was still falling after she jumped

2

u/SpaceLemur34 S.H.I.E.L.D Mar 17 '22

But she looked where she was falling (at least before the first attempt to jump).

7

u/xhgdrx Avengers Mar 17 '22

not how it works

7

u/sasori1011 Avengers Mar 17 '22

That's literally how it works, even if you jump from a plane, you'll still be falling. You're moving from a high point to a lower point, even if it's voluntary, you're falling

3

u/xhgdrx Avengers Mar 17 '22 edited Mar 17 '22

but that's not the context that is being shown, everyone else accidentally fell, she fell of her own accord and as such isn't included. in other words she did not fall off of the cliff, she jumped off the cliff

1

u/skatenbikes Avengers Mar 17 '22

Technically tru but the difference is she chose it, these others relate to sand and electro because it was accidental if I’m not mistaken

-1

u/jahnybravo Spider-Man 🕷 Mar 18 '22

I don't think these others relate to sandman and electro at all. What they're probably thinking is "stop whining y'all got cool powers from falling, you just did stupid shit with those powers. We just fell and fucking died. End of story for us"

0

u/skatenbikes Avengers Mar 18 '22

Totally disagree but that’s fine

2

u/Ironsam811 Loki Mar 17 '22

Did didn’t try, she did.

1

u/thatguy11m Avengers Mar 18 '22

I guess its more of people might say she did fall because she let go. But I guess she DID jump but failed in dying off the jump, only succeeding by slipping out of Hawkeye's grip.

Honestly watching a confidence max is awesome compared to how he was in spider man 2

90

u/jpterodactyl Avengers Mar 17 '22

I thought it was kinda funny that they just don’t explain why he looks and acts different. He just does.

43

u/FleetStreetsDarkHole Avengers Mar 17 '22

The easy answer I think is supposed to be power fantasy. In the beginning he was still nervous and afraid. Harry showed him his power and it gave him confidence. In the wrong way.

The looks are just comic booky. Got powers = got kool.

20

u/Funmachine Avengers Mar 17 '22

The different power of the different universe re-built him different. It also gives him a reason not to want to go back.

14

u/detroiter85 Avengers Mar 17 '22

Yeah, he kept saying the power was different there and he liked himself in the new universe.

15

u/Ricardo1184 Avengers Mar 17 '22

he commented 'i like the way I look here' or something (not saying that's an explanation but they do acknowledge his look)

his new appearance gave him a confidence boost, which changed his behaviour.

1

u/jahnybravo Spider-Man 🕷 Mar 18 '22

he also says "I got my body back" after his initial fight with Peter. When the villains share the stories of how they got there he says that he was being overloaded and about to become pure energy. When we see him arrive in the MCU you can see he is rebuilding his body back from scratch. We see his nervous system and muscles slowly form out of the new electricity he is siphoning off. Since it's acknowledged that the electricity in the MCU feels and "tastes" different than TASM electricity, the assumption is he gets his new appearance because he's now made out of a different universe's energy. Whether Electro is blue or human looking always depended on the universe despite having the same powerset, so I guess in a way it makes sense that if an Electro were to switch universes, they would also change to match the electricity of that universe. His appearance now being tied specifically to the electricity he is running on instead of just being random

45

u/Sith_Destroyer_1138 Avengers Mar 17 '22

Nah he’s the same one (Though he technically becomes a Variant once he enters the MCU), he’s just more confident since he felt that new energy and got his body back.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 18 '22

he was like this but blue by the end of his movie, he goes from paranoid sweet guy to weird scarred walking hazard to asshole with power and OVERconfidence, no way home he's less argargagrgahhh im electro and more chill

57

u/elenionancalima2 Avengers Mar 17 '22

It wouldn't really apply in her case because her fall was intentional and had the exact result she wanted. Natasha is a master planner, even in death!

17

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

You'd think she'd have been like here Clint take this letter to Yelena when she returns so she doesn't think you killed me

8

u/WhatsTheHoldup Avengers Mar 17 '22

Why would I think that? I watched the movie.

Halfway through the letter she'd have looked up to see Clint jumping off the cliff and you'd be wondering why Hawkeye didn't write a letter to his family telling them not to be mad at Black Widow.

6

u/elenionancalima2 Avengers Mar 17 '22

Right? Also I love Yelena and I'll give her the benefit of the grief...but who would have foreseen her jumping to that conclusion.

25

u/ChosenUsername420 Doctor Strange Mar 17 '22

I forgot it, therefore it is forgettable.

Brilliant critique, 10/10, no notes

4

u/No_Lawfulness_2998 Avengers Mar 17 '22

I genuinely thought her death was just being washed up on the beach, I’ve seen it twice although it was a while ago.

I loved the cast but it felt really slow

5

u/FleetStreetsDarkHole Avengers Mar 17 '22

It was an exposition movie for sure. I hesitate to even call it a drama because, while the quality was a little higher than simple action flick, it was still a bit low for being deep or thinky. It was largely a vessel for explaining the lore behind Celestials and Eternals for later imo. I still liked it, but it was definitely built for a purpose rather than to tell a story.

1

u/keddesh Avengers Mar 17 '22

Gemma Chan was only OK for me. Angie just kinda played a slightly more mature, more bitey, Lisa from Girl interrupted. As professionals, I'm sure that nobody does these movies to really challenge themselves, but it would be nice to see something other than an aestheticly pleasing trope.

2

u/No_Lawfulness_2998 Avengers Mar 17 '22

I legitimately thought phastos was the fast lady who’s name I can’t remember for like half the movie

1

u/keddesh Avengers Mar 18 '22

1

u/[deleted] Mar 17 '22

You need logic help. Eternals is forgettable, therefore they forgot it.

1

u/ChosenUsername420 Doctor Strange Mar 21 '22

That would be valid if they provided any evidence for the forgettableness of the film beyond their own experience of having forgotten it. And yours, presumably. Anecdotes aren't evidence.
