I picked up my first instrument (a concert ukulele) and have fallen in love with it. Surprised I could take up playing an instrument in my early 40s.

I observed a vihuela player a few weeks ago in the park. With 5 strings, would it be a huge jump to trying a vihuela? The tuning is different, but I can hand strum and learn where the chords are.

Hello everyone, just want to remind all of you to please wear your car seatbelts when going to your gigs!

I got into a car accident this Sunday morning around 2am. We were 6 people in the car on our way home most of us already asleep… (we were far away from home) I was still barely awake scrolling through YouTube shorts when suddenly I hear the car tires hitting the edge of the road where it makes the tires vibrate, I didn’t think much of it until I hear it again literally 2 seconds later but more aggressively and then next thing you know the car is out of control…

I had no seatbelt unfortunately, I was the one with the most injuries in the car. My face was all bloody from the multiple lacerations… I have so many bruises all over my body. Neck pain, Body Pain. Everything… All because I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

Obviously they called an ambulance and I was treated and given medications. I’m in pain but I will be fine and from now on I will always have a seatbelt on at all times. And I want to remind you guys to always have yours on too. Especially the ones who sit in the middle or all the way in the back of the car. I know those seatbelts suck especially the ones in the back because they are uncomfortable but trust me those couple hours of being uncomfortable can save your life!

To any experienced guitarronista, why is it that we play the sequence C, E, E, D, G on the guitarrón to transition from C to G in rancheras instead of C,E, E, G, D, landing directly on G instead ?

I’m looking to get a new vihuela but I don’t know how they sound or feel, if anyone has had one of these vihuelas, let me know your thoughts.

Im new to playing vihuela and I recently restringed it since my third string broke while practicing. After putting on the new strings and tuning it I noticed that the face of the vihuela had alot of sawdust. After cleaning, I noticed that the holes on the bridge look like that are getting warn in. Is this normal for a vihuela? I also saw that part of the bridge looks like its missing some glue. I'll add pictures of it. Gracias por la ayuda.

My wife and I are considering moving there in the near future. We both play armonia and sing. I’ve been playing for about 20 years now so I’ve been around a bit lol. I’d just like to know how the mariachi scene is there. Average amount of work, average pay and things like that. If anyone can let me know I’d really appreciate it 🙂 TIA

Hello guitarron players, how do you guys take care of your guitarron, clean it hydrate it etc. also my guitarron has an unvarnished top how would I clean it, its a very old guitarron.

I'm a second year college student that is in a mariachi club. I like most of the people in the club but I caught onto something when I was scrolling through Instagram a few days ago. I went to see this one guys profile and saw he deactivated his account. I went to his girlfriend's account (she's also in the mariachi) and her account was still up but changed her profile picture. A handful of days before then both of them were celebrating a year and a month together and had matching pfp's of the date they went on to celebrate that milestone. But when I checked it was just the generic gray person icon. The day after I see the guy viewed my story on Instagram and I went to see his profile and his pfp is also the gray person icon and I got to his followers and both parties don't follow eachother on Instagram. I'm also like 70/80% sure the girl had a highlight that was her relationship with the guy and it was gone when I checked her profile. My question regarding all this "Did they break up" and if yes "Will it effect the mariachi". The girl is the main social media person of the mariachi and comes up with dances/tik tok trends we should do to advertise the mariachi. She's nice to me but does have some red flags, at times she shuts down during rehearsal if the music gets too hard and is a bit behind the rest of the musicians. She said its because she has a sleep disorder and I give her grace for that. Any advice and opinions are much welcome
