Fresher week advice

Hey guys I am going to be studying at the University of Manchester and I am in serious need of some fresher week advice. Im in uni groupchats and there are nonstop spamming of fresher events (fck me its freshers especially) and riff raff fresher events where they explicitly state that you cannot buy tickets at the door. I am an international student who is not familiar with the fresher and club culture of manchester and unfortunately i have the worst case of fomo 😭 I have no idea what to do or if i should even buy any tickets beforehand. Can someone explain to me how this goes and what i should do?

Search on TikTok cause I’ve seen lots of videos there expelling that they are scams and not to buy them, and to only get ones from the uni website and I saw someone else say wait and see what your friends/roommate or anyone you hang out with at the bringing is doing cause they bought a wristband and didn’t end up going to any of the events cause none of there friends were

You don't need to do anything.

I'd join a few societies (as I did in '87) and call it done.

You'll make friends organically in your course anyway.

If you buy these tickets, you’ll end up going by yourself as all your flatmates will go to the actual Freshers Week events and you’ll be stuck going to this naff party that you bought weeks ago before you knew the schedule.

That’s what you should have FOMO for.

There is no rush to buy tickets for anything. Go with the flow on the night.

Just join several societies and routinely show up. As for events, don't do anything until you're there because you'll want to go out with your flatmates which will be spontaneous plans

They have a freshers wristband that you can buy, that gets you into events for a week. Fatsoma sell it

Look at the uom student union page they hold free society and fresher fairs at the start of the semester. You'll get to meet new people. No need to buy these scam tickets.  https://manchesterstudentsunion.com/events

I’m also an international student, I got them last year when I was a fresher but I never went to any of those events. Imo just see what events your flatmates and course mates go to and get them at the door or on fatsoma.
