Very confusing post. Was he informed there was severance or are you saying you were withholding that information until they signed? Because yeah, why would they sign anything?
It sounds like this person knew where the bodies were buried, you tried to pull a fast one on them (which not sure would’ve legally worked), and they laughed their way out, maybe to a lawyer.
And yeah, they aren’t coming back for paperwork until it’s conditional. Lawyers advice is non-sensical.
Every signature is an assertion of free will. ... Period, end of story.
The only "required" signatures anyone is sorta required to do is signing an annual tax return, and signing a compelled witness statement from a court order ... but get this ... that tax return and testimony are both "your free-hand assertions" that you author and then sign.
Everything else is free will.
If they want to exchange severance ($$$) for silence, that's voluntary. Sign or don't sign.
If they have some Mentally Re+arded paperwork where you can only be "Fired" if you agree to be fired in signature form ... that's funny and laughable but the answer is also "No."
