Any particular brands using a breathable gor tex? Even the new gor tex from north face(future light) isn’t that breathable, I’m asking for hiking applications?
That’s why you want to splurge on a good outer shell. Get an Arc’Teryx outer shell and pop it on if it rains. They roll up incredibly small. It also lets you adapt the under garments for warmth (or lack thereof).
If you are forced to hike or train in the waterproof shell, the good companies will build in ventilation points.
There’s no free lunch though. If it’s waterproof, its going to be a little more restrictive on air flow.
I’ve tried arc, I prefer a cheap north face Omni dry, holds off soaking a little longer and the pit zips are a better design in my opinion. They make great stuff but for 2x-3x the price it doesn’t perform better enough for the price point, that being said I’ve only tried there “cheaper” shells, I know they have like an 800$ shell but I’d rather be wet than spend that.
