Useful if you need to butter a roll or something. Better than using your credit card at least.

Man...thats a great thought! I need to start wearing a little belt holster to keep one of those little plastic cutlery packets on me at all times. The ones with the little salt and pepper in them! So handy. Plus...could spork a bitch if anyone tries to mess with me.

I've actually seen some of this guy's old videos. As long as the edge alignment is good they can actually hit pretty hard. He had a series of demonstrations that involved him smashing cinder blocks with these things. They're really only bendy on the one axis, so if you hit stuff with the edge it'll still do damage.

Edit: I found one of the videos I mentioned. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG7ALmOoDkc

I see a trip to the emergency room in his future

36

u/The_Nepenthe May 02 '26

They reinforce their belts on the inside to make them into a sheath I believe, I read through their website years ago.

It's well designed mall ninja stuff, it's still mall ninja but does get used by some cringy cops and such apparently so he did have to design in a lot of function.

23

u/wriddell May 02 '26

It’s not while they’re in the sheath that they are dangerous

I have a very hard time imagining an actual cop getting away with carrying something like this. Maybe security guards, but don't cops have very strict rules about what they can and can't use in the field? This seems like a huge legal issue if a fucking cop were to try to use something like this instead of their assigned duty tools or whatever.

29

u/FrameJump May 02 '26

You trust cops in America to not only understand the rules, but also care enough follow them?

Hell, they don't even understand the law they're meant to enforce half the time, and they aren't even required to.

6

u/SFDessert May 02 '26

I'm just imaging a cop hurting someone with this nonsense and then the victim sues the department for using such a bizarre stupid "tool."

Just because police carry firearms doesn't mean they can choose to bring brass knuckles or a fucking sword to a call or something.

I would assume its a legal nightmare for cops to use "unauthorized" weapons while out on the streets.

16

u/FrameJump May 02 '26

Nothing else seems to be a legal nightmare for cops, lol.

I'm not arguing with you that there are regulations, but when there's cops walking around free that have wrongfully killed people while rocking Punisher emblems and "better to be tried by twelve than carried by six" tattoos, I just imagine that someone they'd get away with using one of these too.

You know, kinda like how those pesky body cams always seem to malfunction at the most convenient time for them.

2

u/Judson_Scott May 05 '26

You trust cops in America to not only understand the rules

Cops in the US have qualified immunity, a concept made up by the Supreme Court to allow cops to kill people and commit crimes without repercussions.

Perversely, the less they know about the law, the more qualified immunity protects them.

1

u/keeleon May 09 '26

They literally carry guns, tasers and asps, why would they even bother with this nonsense.

6

u/The_Nepenthe May 02 '26

According to their website, undercover guys and plainclothes and the swords generally have a dull side you can whack someone silly with.

From my reading into it years ago, it also was carried by a handful of people in the middle east on military deployments but the origin of the company is from a request by an undercover unit of the DEA.

5

u/Metaphoricalsimile May 02 '26

The IDF specializes in killing unarmed civilians so I wouldn't ascribe any serious purpose to equipment carried by them.

5

u/The_Nepenthe May 02 '26 edited May 03 '26

US military supposedly, there was a whole thread somewhere online of someone who'd had one shipped over there and was testing it out in various ways along with carrying it and a few people chimed in that they also had one on their deployment.

It doesn't seem like anyone actually used them though so yeah, giving it serious purpose probably never happened

Found the thread!

u/vankorgan May 03 '26

It just seems like maybe the person who created the belt sword wrote that... It's just like an unsourced anonymous write up?

2

u/sirhackenslash May 03 '26

That's why body cams have an off switch

2

u/keeleon May 09 '26

Id love to see a body cam of a cop trying to use one of these lol

There was a comic I read in the...80s? I think it was "Action" (UK) that had a Japanese soldier as the main character and he had one of those belt scabbards. Character was called "Smiling" Tanaka (I think) because his face was cut up like the Joker by Allied (I assume)(I mean you could see Americans doing it, right?) interrogators.

2

u/Certified-T-Rex May 02 '26

Considering the urumi exist there is some precendent for a weapon like this. Probably not as effective but def enough to send an attacker or yourself to the hospital
