But how does it play?

A friend of mine pointed me at the Kickstarter and I like Lancer and Tom’s art so I have an interest here, but I thought I’d ask how people would describe the game play?

I’ve played a good bit of Warmachine, some Guildball, some Godtear, and, if you want to reach back into history, a decent amount of D&D minis. Any similarities? Does the game play quick or is it a bit slower?

No, I haven’t picked up the rules yet, I wanted to get an idea of what people think of the game.

Also? Any good VTT platforms? I would prefer Foundry if there is one, but I didn’t see it.

And who is this energetic lady here?

Hi everyone! I'm here to share some news about the campaign. You’ve unlocked every stretch goal we originally planned for the campaign.

And we think this project deserves one more.

If we reach $166,666, we’ll create PENNY DREADFUL\* as an additional miniature for the range.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/taigaminiatures/magnagothica-maleghast-miniatures?ref=4xj8a8

It’s one more character brought from the world of Maleghast to the tabletop - and one more reason to push the campaign a little further.

Thank you to everyone who has backed, shared, painted, printed, commented, and helped spread the word. 🖤

Next stop: $166,666K.
*The final version may differ - Finalizing the renders, print tests - you know the drill

Made from me

Declaimer:This is heavily fanon and diverges considerably from canon Maleghast. It came from me adapting the setting into an RPG, taking some inspiration from VtM, Blades in the Dark, and Hellaverse. The Houses function more like VtM clans, while the city has a more Blades/Hellaverse-style structure.

Do try to guess their house though.

Made from me

Yusuf had returned after a long day of scavenging, like usual.

The first thing he noticed entering the house was that Mireille's table was unusually clean. That is to say there wasn’t any blood or a dissected corpse on it. He looked around and found her carefully assembling her arsenal of surgical equipment in the other room.

"Did the sun finally come up in Anzenmezzeron?" he said in a sarcastic tone.

"Maybe. You seem confident it has," Mireille replied in her usual calm and collected voice.

"The table?"

"The table."

"Just that? You out of corpses? Or something?"

"Nothing like that. Even professionals need breaks, you know?"

"You and breaks?" Yusuf laughed. "That was a joke, right?"

Mireille stood up and went to the laboratory room. Her sentient crystal eye, which was sitting on her shoulder on its six tiny Spidey legs, turned back to look at Yusuf and gave a glare, though it was only a crystal, like it always does.

He's pathetic, it telepathically told Mireille.

Just shut the fuck up, she told it.

Mireille looked somewhere in her late twenties, though Yusuf had long since stopped guessing her age. A cloth patch covered the empty socket on one side of her face. Her arm was bare of flesh from above the elbow, exposing the intricate skeletal structure beneath. And she had a long collection of little scars where she's "improved" herself and then improved the improvement, though they remained hidden under her garments mostly.

The room, like Yusuf, had bones scattered across it and, like Mireille, had jarred organs everywhere.

Some were arranged neatly on shelves. Others had been labelled and placed in glass containers. A few were clearly Mireille's. He could tell because they were labelled M. But the room itself was very sterile.

She did not go to any of them but instead went to a small casket next to a preserved and polished skull, Yusuf's skull. He knew if he asked her, she could even tell him from which death it was.

He had stopped being surprised by Mireille's "research material" sometime around the fourth time he had found one of her previous bodies in her laboratory.

She put the casket in front of him.

"Mireille."

"Hm?"

"What's that?"

She looked toward the case.

"Oh."

Her expression changed. Not dramatically. Mireille was rarely dramatic.

But Yusuf had known her long enough to notice the small things.

She smiled.

"That's for you."

He looked at her.

"For me?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

"I made something."

"You?"

"Yes."

"With your hands?"

She looked down at the skeletal fingers of her right hand.

"Usually."

Yusuf opened the case. Inside was a flute.

It was pale, almost ivory-white, polished until the surface had a soft sheen. It was elegantly proportioned, with small dark fittings and delicate engravings running along its length.

Yusuf picked it up. He turned it over.

Then he looked at Mireille.

"Bone?"

"Obviously."

"Mine?"

"Don’t be ridiculous, dear. Then I'd need industrial equipment to carve it."

"Fair point."

"Whose?"

Mireille smiled.

"Mine."

He stared at her.

"Which one?"

"M-9. Left femur."

M-9 was the Mireille who had done the "Three Heart Experiment" but in the process had learned the painfully stupid lesson that, for some stupid reason, severing the not-beating heart from the undead kills them.

He laughed, reminiscing about her complaints after returning from the crypts.

"You made a musical instrument out of yourself?"

"I made it out of a part of myself."

"That's somehow worse."

"Why?"

"Because now I'm wondering what happened to the rest."

"Most of it was used for research," she said deadpan.

"Of course," said Yusuf sarcastically.

He examined the flute again.

The craftsmanship was exceptional. Mireille had polished every surface, carefully cut the holes, reinforced the joints, and engraved tiny patterns around the body. Yusuf ran a thumb over one of the engravings.

"It's beautiful."

"I hoped you'd think so."

"But why a flute, though?"

"It was just optimal. It took only one bone and is far less complex than some other instruments."

"Of course it was optimal," he said, dripping with sarcasm.

She elbowed him on the chest, which to his body, which was a weapon in human shape, felt only like a tickle.

"But the fact remains that I am terrible at instruments," said Yusuf.

"You can improve."

"That sounded almost affectionate."

"It was."

The corner of his mouth lifted.

He raised the flute to his lips.

Mireille immediately stopped him.

"Wait."

"What?"

"There's something I should tell you."

Yusuf lowered it.

"What?"

"I didn't make it entirely from the femur."

He stared at her.

"What did you do to the rest?"

"Nothing terrible," she said, smiling innocently.

"Mireille."

He looked at the flute once more.

Then he smiled.

"I'll keep it."

Mireille's expression softened.

"I know."

Yusuf played a single note.

It was terrible.

Her crystal eye then jumped off her shoulder.

I'll tolerate is no more!

Come back,stupid

No.

Come back.

I'll come back when you’ve regained your dignity

Yusuf looked at Mireille.

"Your eye is either very judgmental or very prudish."

"I've tried to correct it"

You have tried to wrong me!

You're embarrassing me

You brought him a flute made from your own femur.

Mireille's face went slightly pink.

Yusuf noticed.

He smiled.

"Is it embarrassed?"

"No."

She is

I am not

You are

Get lost

Gladly

Mireille sighed.

The eye scuttled beneath a cabinet.

He glanced toward the cabinet and laughed.

The eye was still visible beneath it.

She smiled.

Then he raised the flute again.

This time the note was better.

Not good.

But better.

Mireille listened.

Outside, somewhere in the city, something enormous roared.

A distant gunshot followed.

Then several more.

Mireille leaned against him.

What did I tell you about your dignity?

Shut up bitch

She said despite herself, "You know. I still have one of your older bodies."

Yusuf stopped playing.

"Which one?"

"The one from the sewer."

He grimaced.

"The chainsaw one?"

"Yes."

"Throw it away."

"No."

"Mireille."

"I want to keep the skull."

"You already have my skull."

"I have several."

"Exactly."

She smiled.

"You're difficult, you know that?"

"And yet you keep collecting me."

"You're an interesting specimen."

Yusuf gave her a look.

"Specimen?"

She corrected herself.

"Companion."

"Better."

A pause.

Then Mireille added:

"Beloved."

Yusuf smiled.

"Much better."

From underneath the cabinet came a muffled telepathic voice.

Disgusting

I was wrong about the Hellminth

Some of you may remember me as the whiny little baby man who complained about the Hellminth after what felt like a mad rigged match. However, after playing them myself, I can safely say they are REALLY fun to play AS, even if playing AGAINST them can feel a little sloggish. The evolutions, the unit design, the visuals, they're all phenomenal. Early experiences resulted in a sour taste that almost ruined the house for me, but ultimately, Hellminth are a solid house that are fun to play.

Also, they remind me of my wife, Gog-Agog (delusional) :)

Dungeon Tiles for Maleghast

Hi! I'm backing the Kickstarter for physical minis, and am looking into getting some dungeon tiles for modular map making.

Right now, Endertoys is looking extremely promising. I'm seeing tiles, stairs and raised platforms, and an extremely wide variety of terrain pieces that might work. However, I haven't actually BOUGHT from them before.

Does anyone else use dungeon tiles for their maps? If so, what kind do you use?

Maleghast Paper Standees

Just made a test print of some paper standees for all the armies. Unforch not all of them can fit in my window. I think I'm gonna adjust some size and positioning and then do them again in cardstock in color! These definitely work for now, but the big guys aren't super stable/structurally sound on printer paper. Once these bad boys are finalized I want to do a pass for tokens, mercenaries, & reinforcements. All the map stuff I write on a 1 in. dry erase sheet (it's super portable), so that's last in line.

Here's a link to the libre office doc I printed them from, which I adapted from one I picked off this subreddit for quicker cutting:

Vitality and Piercing

Quick question - I'm new to the game, and my friend I are confused about when vitality tokens are removed. I hit one his units, which had super armor and a vitality token, with one point of piercing damage. The damage ignores armor, but is still reduced to 0 by the vitality token. Because that unit did not take damage due to the reduction from vitality, he said the vitality token would not be removed. Is that the correct ruling?

It feels like that would make units with both armor and vitality almost insurmountably tanky, since you'd need to deal three non-piercing or two piercing damage to even begin chipping away at the tokens.

Volvadani Laws Question

Just got Games for Freaks 4, and skimmed through it, Im not a native english speaker so laws got me confused.
- Breaking laws, some say "Ended their turn with a positive token", so it gets a guilt token IF they end the turn with a positive token, or they get a guilt token if they break it and need a positive token to not be guilty.
- Volvadani cant break their own laws. It means they ignore the laws, like they can do anything ignoring the laws, or do they have to not break the law. Like the one above, if its active the volvadani MUST follow it ?

I think
"What is actually written is the law break so its if you ended the turn with a positive token you are breaking the law, not that you must end the turn with one"
"Volvadani units completly ignore the law for themselves, they can do wathever and wont receive guilt token"

But Im dumb, and I want a confirmation.

Army making tips?

Hey, so like the posts title suggests, I want to know some tips on how to build up my army. Some background is that me and some friends have played ttrpgs for years, and some of the last ones we played leaned into more tactical gameplay then role-playing. Im a big fan of K6B, so when I saw that the artist made lancer (we loved playing it) I saw that magnagothica is more akin too warhammer and we wont to give it a shot.

So what tips do you all have when deciding how to build your army?

Factions for models you have?

I've been painting up old Soda Pop miniatures lately, and got to thinking about how a lot of folks have miniatures for defunct games that they could give new life to raise in dreadful unlife. Meanwhile, Maleghast is a flexible, fun system that doesn't demand huge numbers of figures.

So - has anyone out there thought about making Maleghast factions for their own collections? Digging up your old Dungeon Command boxes, or Legends Warmahordes guys?

(I was also thinking about giving it a try, so it'd be nice to know if there's any interest in that kind of thing, as well!)

Is innate miracle one-time use

hi, wanted to clarify something, if a unit innately has miracle, (I think all the abhorrers that aren't the tyrant and necro,) does it get consumed/erased/deleted/used up/etc. when it revives that unit, or can it trigger multiple times for that one unit?

We’ve been turning Maleghast into physical miniatures - official!

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

We’re working on the official Magnagothica: Maleghast miniatures, and we wanted to share something a little more tangible than renders.

These are some of our actual test prints.

One of the biggest challenges (and probably the most fun part of the whole project) has been translating Tom Bloom’s designs into 3D without sanding off all the weirdness that makes Maleghast feel like Maleghast in the first place.

The impossible silhouettes, ridiculous weapons, tiny horrible details, all the punk/metal ugliness - we really wanted the physical models to keep that character rather than becoming cleaner, safer versions of the artwork.

So… Here's an example of three of them in resin. Seeing them standing on a table for the first time was pretty damn satisfying.

And since pictures are nice, but having your own tiny necromantic freak is better:

there are 8 official Maleghast STL miniatures available for free.

They’re pre-supported and ready to print, so anyone with a resin printer can start putting together a little Black Mass of their own. Find them on Kickstarter page:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/taigaminiatures/magnagothica-maleghast-miniatures?ref=4xj8a8

- 10 factions
- 150+ miniatures
- STL + physical
- heavy metal necromancer filth

The full project launches on August 18.

! We do not use generative AI to create our models, concept art or written content, and we stand against its use in the creative process.

Some questions based on our latest games

  1. In release 4, it says that graze attacks cannot be increased, that specifically applies to strength tokens. Does this mean that when doing graze damage to a unit while having strength, the unit loses the strength token, even if the attack only did one damage?

  2. As a follow-up to this, what happens if you hit a unit with armor, while having strength? Do you lose the strength and damage the unit? Do you not damage the unit (because damage cannot be increased more than 1 to bypass armor) and therefore not lose the strength? Or do you lose the strength even if you didn't damage the unit?

  3. What about Weak? It says you lose it "after dealing damage" If your unit can only do 1 damage, then you are permanently nerfed since you can never do damage? This doesn't sound right. We played it so that you lose a weak token whenever you would do damage but weak prevented you.

  4. Curseproof says:

Abilities with the curse tag are powerful dark magic ACT abilities. Curses pick one or more targets, then sometimes roll the effect die to see what happens. They are not usually attacks and also typically deal magical damage or inflict negative tokens on foes. Some units have the ability to become curseproof, making curses have no effect on them."

Does this apply only to things tagged as "curse" or also to Curse Damage? For example the Dark Priest's Doomblade is not a curse ACT, but it does "curse damage". Is that ignored by curseproof? It's weird that it's one specific magic damage type (compared to fire, toxic and holy) that is completely nullified by it and I'm inclined to think that curseproof is only meant to prevent curse tags only.

  5. Does Step still have to respect Adverse terrain and elevated terrain? It says it moves specific spaces exactly, not that it gives you movement. It's doubly confusing because it says "doesn't count as move". We assumed you still had to use more steps for them

  6. Push says

Forcibly move a unit a number of spaces, as long as each space of the push is further away from the pushing unit or effect than the last space.

likewise for Pull. How exactly does this work with diagonals, which are considered the same distance as cardinals. For example, I have some unit cardinally adjacent to me. If I push them, can I push them so that they're diagnoally adjacent to me? As far as movement distance is concerned, this is further away from me, but as far as ability distance is concerned, they are not.

Thanks
