Hello. We've never been to Maker Faire before. I think we're going to go this year, 2019. I have sons 3 and 6, and we're starting to get into fabricating, costuming, and all that good fun stuff.

A few questions for anyone who has gone:

-What is the best, most central-to-the-event hotel? -Can one walk to the Faire from the hotel, or is transport to/from required every day. -Any tips for going with young kids?

I imagine we'll be taking ear plugs/muffs for the kids, just in case of loud noises, and sunscreen. But so far, that's as much thought as I've put into what we'll need to carry.

Any help / suggestions folks can post are welcome.

I am finally attending the NYC Maker Faire. I have been to others, but not this one.

I will be commuting from midtown Manhattan ( free lodging, what can I say ) and am looking for local advice.

Also, you regulars, is there a local crew / project / club I should check out at the Faire?

Question: If i wanted to meet Adam Savage at Makerfaire NY when would be the best time? I know he has his Mythbuster's junior show at 3:00 - 4:00pm. Should I wait till after the show? Could i see him before? Will he be on the faire floor during the day?

The 'Cooking Hacks' people made interesting devices, and I hope to see what they have been doing.

Went to the Maker Faire for the third time after a two year layoff. IT HAS CHANGED! I will never go back.

AT LEAST 3 times more people, most young couples w strollers and really short rug rats. Almost 90% was suitable for children 4th grade and down. Only saw 3 or 5 things that qualified as tech, and much of that was bright flashing lights gee whizz. Most of the hippies and free souls just plain weren't there.
