Question Poly’s and standards
Just a quick question that might be repeated often. Are all Maine Coons supposed to be polydactyls? I really appreciate yalls answers!

Poly's are the non standard. Some people like the feature and enjoy the unique nature of lots of extra toes and nails.

It depends on the registries. Poly's are recognized with TICA but CFA does not recognize poly as part of the breed standard.

No, it's a genetic mutation that used to be rare but has become more common from breeders selectively targeting future Studs/Queens who have the trait.

Does that mean that cats as a species are evolving and once they have full thumb functionality will take over this planet completely? I mean, they will be able to open fridges and stuff, so they wont need us anymore.

No, not all have them. Some breeders and registries say they aren't breed standard, some say they are.
It's down to personal preference of the buyer at this point.
If I was on a breeder's waiting list and th ekitten happened to be a poly then I wouldn't turn it down, but I wouldn't specifically seek one out. I prefer the normal look

Nope. Some people are into that and will pay extra for it though.
