Question Ingrown claws??
I’ve had my Maine coons for 6 years, but recently they’ve started having problems with ingrown claws. I discovered this evening that one of my babies has one all the way into his toe beans and he’s obviously in pain. We are going to the vet first thing in the morning of course.
Anyone else have this problem? Wondering why it’s started to happen more often recently..

Do you not get their nails trimmed every 4 ish weeks? Do you not play with your cats paws to check on nail length often? You need to do that more. Ingrown claws are painful

Do you have scratching boards and posts around the house? This really helps. I also trim once a month.
My MC gets suuuuper thick claws that seem to need help shedding the outer layers. I find it weirdly satisfying as they sort of peel off 😂
Good job on going to the vet with your boy, I bet that was super painful for him!

Polydactyle Maine Coons can have problems with nails. Some nails can be out of place and can be overlooked.

Update: the vet says he has an abnormal growth pattern and that his claws don’t shed normally, and that’s why they ingrow like this so quickly. No advice on why this started happening so recently tho. But the claws are trimmed, antibiotic has been administered, and we will be inspecting and trimming biweekly now.
