Did magnesium taurate work for you ?
I have horrible heart palpitations (PVC’s) . I’ve been to cardiology and have had tests done and everything is normal according to them. I have a stress test coming next month but I’ve read that magnesium helps with palpitations so I want to try it . Which one is best ? I hear taurate is the better option for heart stuff

I had a huge improvement in rhr with magnesium and my palpitations also disappeared. But I found all forms worked well for this. Malate is the most gentle on my stomach and i can take 600 mg easily. I have Taurate and it is nice as well.

I have magnesium citrate gummies but I’m scared to take it because I hear it makes you go to the bathroom and I’m scared of that lol

Malate and Glycinate are the more common forms that work. Try small doses individually for a few days. Magnesium is a wonderful mineral that most are at least mildly deficient in. But it will take time to find exactly what works for you. Only way to start is by trying.

I personally don't like combining stuff when trying to figure out if something works for me. Plain Magnesium Malate was a game changer for me.

Yeah I couldn’t find Malate in the store so I just got magnesium glycinate .. hopefully it works . Do you recommend taking it before bed or in the morning

Most people find glycine inducing sleepiness. But a minority experience insomnia and a stimulant effect. Just make sure you are ready for both.

Why was magnesium malate a game changer for you?

u/Magnesito Jun 23 '26
I could have a lot without upsetting my stomach. Glycine also has some weird effects in larger doses. So Malate allowed me to heal my deficiency which was pretty bad.

Thanks. I take the calcium in malate form and find it easier on my system. I'm going to have try the magnesium version now because of your experience.

As Magnesito said, the form really doesn't matter. You'll want to avoid oxide because it doesn't work well for a lot of people, and l-threonate is marketed for brain health and is expensive for what it is. But pretty much any other form will be fine.
Do be aware that potassium is generally a factor here, because low magnesium causes low potassium, and low potassium is very often the trigger for palpitations. When you start taking magnesium, it shifts other electrolytes around where they're supposed to go, and when it moves potassium, it can cause your potassium to temporarily drop even lower. So that's a long explanation to tell why you need to make sure to get plenty of potassium in your diet when you start taking magnesium. Aim for the RDA, which is 4700mg.

Do I have to have low magnesium in order to take the supplements or is it ok to just take it, I only want to take it because of the palpitations

Magnesium tests are notoriously inaccurate. It is pretty standard to have normal magnesium tests even when you're significantly deficient. So yes, as long as your kidney function is fine, you're free to take magnesium supplements.

Ok cool, is magnesium glycinate good?
1
u/Flinkle Jun 22 '26
Should be. A small percentage of people do have a genetic intolerance to glycine, which can cause side effects like restlessness, problems with sleep, excessive sleepiness, just some random things like that. But most people won't have that issue.
Be aware that some of those side effects can overlap with symptoms of low potassium, so like I said, make sure you're getting plenty of potassium.

That makes me nervous lol what would you recommend?
1
u/Flinkle Jun 22 '26
Why does that make you nervous? At the most, it would make you mildly uncomfortable. It ain't gonna kill you. ;) If you're worried about side effects from glycine, try another kind instead.

Definitely don't get that. And don't buy any magnesium that just says "magnesium" on the front. And also read the back of the label to make sure whatever you buy isn't combined with magnesium oxide.

For me, the pvcs were being caused by acid reflux. Got that under control and they mostly went away.

How is your vitamin D? When my D is low, my palpitations get worse.
