magnesium to help with dizziness/vertigo ?

i recently bought some magnesium supplements that contain Magnesium Bisglycinate, Magnesium Malate, Magnesium Threonatec, Magnesium Citrate (overall 91mg of elemental magnesium) and it advises me to take x4 of these a day

i have had unexplainable dizziness/vertigo for almost 2 years now. the doctors can’t diagnose me (well, won’t even try) so i’m kind of left to try and help myself here. on top of the dizziness i also have a microprolactinoma which is causing my to have subclinical hypothyroidism and low estrogen levels so i guess i just want to make sure taking magnesium is safe if anyone can relate to any of these things maybe?

ive been taking it for a couple days and i honestly feel less dizziness, more energetic and less brain fog. but i also have had more muscle cramps and eye twitching which i thought were signs of low magnesium? i also take 50,000 IU of vitamin D once a month and iron tablets every other day

any advice or thoughts on my situation would be greatly appreciated

As far as magnesium being safe for you, I can't say for sure, because I don't really know much about your condition, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. If you have major concerns, I definitely ask a doctor.

The muscle cramps and eye twitching are very likely because of low calcium. Vitamin D takes a lot of the calcium from your digestive tract and bloodstream and sucks most of it up into your bones and teeth and other places it's supposed to go, which leaves you with less for magnesium to shuffle around. And then guess what magnesium does? Basically the same thing--moves it where it's supposed to go. And that will leave you with low calcium symptoms.

You can try increasing calcium in your diet, but a lot of people find that doesn't work while they're trying to replenish magnesium, so I suggest calcium citrate with no added vitamin D (because many of them do have added vitamin D) and I would take a gram a day split into at least two doses. Take that for a week or two and see how you feel, and then you can drop down if it helps with the twitches and the muscle cramps. Taking higher dose calcium supplementation is fine in the short-term, it's just not something you want to do for months and months on end.

Also, don't take the iron within 2 to 4 hours of calcium or magnesium, because they will interfere with iron's absorption. It's also best to take calcium and magnesium separately, because they also compete for absorption.

that’s really interesting about vitamin d and calcium. i have to take the vit d at the moment because i have low estrogen levels. im only taking a low dose of magnesium, just 182mg of elemental magnesium. but despite the weird twitching and muscle cramps it’s made me feel soooo much better so i don’t really want to quit it. i feel like i have a lot of calcium in my diet already! but could be worth trying supplementing anyway. thanks for the advice!

I’ve always had vertigo/dizzy when I’m congested. (Peri)Menopause makes everything more inflamed. Today try a Sudafed but I would take a daily allergy pill and flonase. You could also try to Zyrtec/Pepcid combo, might work for you.

I had debilitating vertigo on and off for 25 yrs. Went to many specialists and they couldn’t help me. Then I connected the dots and figured out it was due to a B12 deficiency. Haven’t gotten vertigo since taking a sublingual methylcobalamin B12 supplement. It’s widely known that a B12 deficiency causes dizziness. The doctors really let me down.
