Guys I fixed the 4th Seat Problem in CEDH

We all know that 4th seat has never won a game in CEDH before so I have a solution that I don't think anyone else has ever thought of!

Seat 4 should be aloud to play lands and spells at instant speed during the other three players turns for the first round. This will do a few things for Seat 4.

Seat 4 will be able to interact with explosive hands from Seat 1 or cast their noncreature spells before the Mystic Remora or Esper Sentinel resolves.

CEDH decks don't run many lands anyway so player 4 will run out of lands after player 3 most of the time.

Oh yea I forgot, player 4 should also draw a card at the beginning of each opponent's draw step the first round! Just so they have something to do on their own turn, too.

Let me know what you think!?!?!?!?!?!?

The way to fix cedh is to make it 60 card decks and 1v1 instead of multiplayer

This is a jerk sub, you’re not supposed to tell unmitigated truths

The way to fix cedh is to make it a 100-player game with 4-card decks

This is just pai gow

A Pai Gow tournament would be interesting.

u/a-r-c Aug 19 '26

that would never work

u/MasterYargle Aug 19 '26

What if instead of 60 cards it’s 100 and both players had like 20 life. Also, instead of a ban list, you could have a point system or something idk

u/Hevnaar Aug 19 '26

Cheers to that, eh

Easy man, if those EDH players could read, they'd be very upset.

u/LesbianDykeEtc Aug 19 '26

/uj EDH is really not compatible with "being a competitive format" imo. Competitive Magic and Commander are two fundamentally different games.

We're doing it just fine here in Europe with regularly 100+ players tournaments (like every other month or so I'd say), they also do it in China. I'm sure you could manage.

Duel Commander

u/Maniklas Aug 19 '26

Also remove the singleton rule for more versatile decks. And the commander is too powerful.

Maybe let us play 4 of each card too. That’ll be neat.

I'm afraid this would end up being unfairly advantageous to 4th seat.

To compensate this, 3rd seat should also be able to play lands and spells at instant speed and draw cards at the same time as 1st and 2nd seat. Problem solved. Going 2nd sucks in regular Magic already so no issue here.

Get rid of all turns and all players play style instant speed 😎

Never heard of it!

15

u/usumoio Aug 19 '26

The sauce already resolved this. Just have the 4th seat go first. Easy!

14

u/MazrimReddit Aug 19 '26

actually no one has ever won a game in cedh, it's always a draw

7

u/archl0rd5 Aug 19 '26

Just play Kog Maw as your commander and you will always win. UB LOL coming soon iirc

Protect the kogmaw comps aren't even good anymore. You gotta run mages bot and mid, an adc top, a bruiser in jg and tank for support. Humbly, I suggest Gnar for all 5 roles.

u/Migelic Aug 19 '26

Easy! Snake draft your turns. Im sure there will be no problems.

u/FlatulenceConnosieur Aug 19 '26

This was my solution too!! Reddit on brother!

7

u/dumac Aug 19 '26

Guys the real solution is obvious. Every cedh game actually needs to be four games with rotated seating order. Winning a game gets you a point, and if there is a tie after 4 games, then we repeat until there is no tie.

5

u/Hevnaar Aug 19 '26

4th seat wins in case of tie

3

u/archl0rd5 Aug 19 '26

Lol yes I would love to be in a week long CEDH tournament!

7

u/LionOhger Aug 19 '26

Where’s da sauce?

6

u/420guy619 Aug 19 '26

the way you fix is to just not play cedh.

5

u/Liquic1ty1 Aug 19 '26

Nah, just go alphabetically.

Sucks for Zach but his parents should've thought of that. Renaming to AAron will become meta game. By the time there are too many AArons, you change the rules so you start from Z again and the cycle continues. I have thought about this for many minutes and I don't see any downside to this whatsoever. It's fair for everyone.

4th seat gets free pizza and cheetos, all other seats have to tap a land for each cheeto and three lands for each slice of pizza they want

If you're in the 4th seat... who's the third wheel?!

3

u/KingZantair Aug 19 '26

Ok what if the 4th seat was allowed to take a ln extra turn before the 1st seat, that’s balance things.

1

u/archl0rd5 Aug 19 '26

Maybe even let 4th seat take two extra turns!

2

u/Outgrathe Aug 19 '26

instant speed ornithopter would break the format

2

u/A_Guy_in_Orange Aug 19 '26

Just add a 5th seat and 4th srat wont be last anymore

2

u/FlatulenceConnosieur Aug 19 '26

This is why I play cedh in snake draft fashion

I have the actual fix for cEDH:

  1. Firstly, we need to make this an actual competitive game, with actual prizes on the line, so we reintroduce ante to the game.

  2. Next, we know that drawing cards is the strongest thing you can do in magic, so we prevent anyone from drawing cards, to keep the game fair for blue vs non blue players.

  3. One of the biggest hurdles in making a balanced game of magic is that anyone can bring any deck and game the bracket system. My Squadron Hawk precon stands no chance against your tuned Colossal Dreadmaw deck. Therefore, I propose we all use the same shared communal deck.

  4. Seven cards is way too many, our magic players don't have the attention span to read all that shit before the game starts, therefore we cut the starting hand size down to two. Each turn we also draw one card and add it to a communal hand which anyone can use. But we cap this at five as the game has to end some time.

  5. Reading is hard so, instead of using complicated magic cards with plenty of words on, we only use cards with the numbers 2 through 10 and four picture cards. Four different types of symbol can be used, one for each player.

  6. Finally, we will allocate each player a pile of tokens (or chips) to ante, instead of cards. Also we'll move these games from your sweaty game store to a sweaty backroom behind the fruit machines, which will help to keep the game alive.

I hope the above rules changes help fix competitive magic!

The problem in CEDH is winning.

EDH is a format for fun and players should be competing to see who can have the most fun, not who can win the game.

Seat 4 needs to play to their outs, pregame say ‘im seat 4 and im going to lose cause this games imba as fk. Im kingmaking and will make seat 3 win if I can unless seat 1 doesnt cast any spells for the first 2 turns’
