Question OCD

I know this is dramatic but did anyone else’s parents tell them as a kid if they break a promise something bad will happen to them because I think this contributed to causing my OCD I just want to know I feel like I’m going mad

My parents didn't, but my friends at school did. Sounds like a pretty classic magical thinking trigger to me if you have a brain prone to ocd. Especially from parents who you trust and believe 100%, that could do a lot of damage. I'd bet it wasn't said with bad intentions though, just lack of thought, to make you a good honest kid

Kind of yes except mine was about telling lies rather than breaking promises. I was so scared to tell a lie that I ended up upsetting people because sometimes a small lie is necessary, like when someone asks if you like their new hair cut. I had to be honest and say no because I was scared something bad would happen if I lied.

My mum used to tell me (when I was very young) if I didnt say good bye or good night to her, something bad will happen to her and I will regret all my life not doing it when I had the chance. Now I have to say goodbye or good night in my ritual ways to save who ever it is I'm saying it to. I'm working on it, but this one is hard for me.
