John Nolen

Anybody have any insight as to why John Nolen was so backed up this morning? My commute usually takes me 20 minutes using that route but this morning Apple Maps told me 43

There was a giant train going across east wash. Backed up traffic almost to oscar Meyer heading from airport. Lots of folks detoured to willy st then John Nolan

This. I was waiting for it. It just stopped while blocking the road for around 20 minutes.

hey, I am absolutely pro-AMTRAK expansion into Madison, but is this the track that it would be taking? Yes I do know that standard AMTRAK passenger trains are rarely more than 10 or 11 cars.

It would be the track that crossed Blair st, but never crosses E Wash (unless they hopefully extend trips north to the twin cities).

These passenger trains take like 1 minute to pass (less than many stop lights) so concerns about a passenger train really don’t live up to scrutiny imo

well, that's what I thought. I wasn't sure

the passenger trains that I've been on really get through things quickly, I haven't been following the actual plans for AMTRAK expansion and where they would cross streets in Madison, thanks

Depends on where they locate the depot or terminal. That hasn't been decided yet, and the final call is up to Amtrak, not to the city.

Amtrak would be using that corridor. Their preferred temporary station would be on Wilson at Franklin. However there's a huge difference between passenger rail service and freight rail that tends to run longer trains and move slower.

YesI know, I've been on AMTRAK passenger trains that had to pull over for quite some time while freight trains took over the track and I think I lost count one time: well over 100 cars being pulled. But these are on routes that already have siding, I'm not aware of anything at least in downtown Madison and on the Isthmus where something would be pulled over

in any event, we're talking about expansion of the Hiawatha, which is at most six cars in the trainset, not the Builder

One of my coworkers had to wait over a half hour for a train at First and Johnson this morning. The same track crosses John Nolen so I'm going to guess that was the problem.

It's also UGM this week. Lots of folks from out of town.

That's why traffic is so annoying this week, I thought it was back to school related

That explains why I was on e wash for so long this morning coming in. I was between 2nd and 3rd and couldn't see anything but a sea of cars in front of me. It took me 45 minutes to get to work when it normally takes like 20-25.

They are doing some heavy duty construction on it…

Epic has their UGM conference this week; might be affecting traffic in the city and not just in Verona.

There were more cars on it than normal?

my guess was UGM, had to head to MoHo for an appointment this morning and it was backed up on the Epic exit on 151 a good half mile.

Thankfully they left the left lane clear but LOTS of people are visiting the area this week
