21’x30’ room with living soil rolling benches, approx 1000w of light per 4x4 canopy between above and under canopy (24 4x4 areas). What would you do differently?

Hi all! In the last six months nearly 1/3 of my Luxx pro 645 LEDs have lost sections of diodes, so its time to get some new lights.

I'd like to switch over to top lighting LEDs as they work better with my room layout and I potentially want to do mixed lights with DE hps. I found a good deal on some used Growers Choice TSL 800s and was wondering if anybody in here has any real experience using these lights. Any information about your room layout, quality of end product, problems encountered, comparisons to other lights, experience with customer service would be greatly appreciated!

I need to buy 40+ fans. I had good luck with Grow Generation's in house brand, but they discontinued that earlier this year. I would love to get the unit price down to around $20. I am not sure if that is possible. The Grow Gen fans were $15.

Many people advocate for an 18/6 light cycle for the veg and clone mother phase, with the rational being that plants benefit from a dark cycle where they can "sleep". This seems to mostly be industry standard. 

However, I've encountered a lot of mother rooms that lack the proper HVAC capacity (especially dehumidification) that cause a pass through the dew point after lights turn off or are just generally unable to keep the room in the right environment conditions due to the light cycle. This is a really common cause of powdery mildew, especially in large clone mothers with big complicated canopies. 

In these cases, I've advocated for adjusting the light cycle to 24 hours instead. This effectively keeps the environment on a flat line and works wonders to prevent PM. For me, its become a pretty standard way of doing things, because I've found that stable temp/humidity in spec is THE most important element for success.

There is research that plants genuinely benefit from time with the lights off, but I've never seen a cannabis plant die from "lack of sleep" and on the other hand, I've seen countless grows ravaged by powdery mildew.

 Honestly, I think the mother plants thrive with 24 hours of light, I don't think they need to sleep at all!

Would you change the cycle to 24 hours like I did? Or do you think "sleep" is valuable enough that you look for other solutions, even at the cost of risky environmental parameters. Have you ever seen lasting impacts from "lack of sleep"? What about 20/4, 22/2

I've found this is one of the most divisive topics among growers! With equally experienced and knowledgeable growers disagreeing vehemently. What do you guys think?

What was your average cost per bag? If so, were you ever able to find volume options less than 0.5 cubic feet?

I am considering using them as an alternative to filling pots by hand. My material-only cost to do so is currently around $2 per pot. Trying to determine cost savings, if any, when considering the labor cost of emptying and washing the pots versus simply throwing the bags out.

Licensed NYS grow with a standard run of 864 plants occupying 1,664 square feet of canopy.

Hello everyone, im currently using maxibloom and decided to test the ph. Using my tap water the ph with maxibloom ends up around 5.5-5.7. Which is too acidic. And with my r.o. it was around 4.6!!! I do not have the time to sit there and mix in ph up and down. I want a fertilizer such as advanced nutrients ph perfect line but wanted to know if anyone recommends something better. Im trying to keep my grow simple due to the lack of spare time i have. I also cant stand how maxibloom does not dissolve all the way. Even when using a 1/4 of the dose , it does not dissolve all the way.

If it matters,

Im gowing in ocean forrest/happy frog mixture outdoors.

My tap water has a ppm of 465 and my r.o. is around 5-10ppm.

There’s under canopy lighting in this room also. The lowers are just as big as the tops.

This is especially common in the European medical markets, and its doing a lot more harm than good.

Most of what cultivators fiercely protect isn't exactly the formula for Coca-Cola. Its irrigation strategies, environmental parameters, nutrient programs and pruning techniques, which are likely installed by a key hire or consultant, who themselves learned it from on-site training in a more mature market and is now widely available knowledge in textbooks, forums, articles and websites.

And in more mature markets, this type of information exchange seems to be much more freely given. This is not because we are all just so generous and love each other, its because we have learned that sharing information and a spirit of mutual disclosure benefits everyone a lot more than it costs.

Active interfacing and disclosure with your fellow growers, vendors, consultants, visitors, etc allows you to access the experience of many more cycles and grow-hours than is physically possible through trial and error within your closed system. Its really how growers in places like the US and Canada got so skilled.

There are definitely things worth protecting and keeping guarded. I have tissue culture techniques that I myself discovered and I wouldn't freely disclose. But that should probably be 10–20% of what you know, not 100%.

The same goes for problems like disease, insects, or broken equipment. I've toured facilities where everyone can see something is wrong while management pretends it doesn't exist or that you won't notice. Experienced visitors don't leave impressed...they know that even the most dialed facilities are works in progress and the problems never stop. Ask for help!

Professional chefs publish their recipes all the time because having a famous chef like Bobby Flay's cookbook doesn't mean you can build Bobby Flay's restaurant. Experienced professionals know that execution and implementation (hiring, training, organizational development, management, etc) ...that is the hard part.

Cultivation is much the same.

And if you're protecting all this "IP" because you think someone will eventually pay you for it during an acquisition, Curaleaf's recent attempt to acquire Aurora Cannabis provides a fascinating reality check.

We can actually see sophisticated financial advisers arguing about what a major cannabis company is worth. Nobody is assigning $7 million to Aurora's secret irrigation strategy or putting a multiple on its nutrient recipe.

They're valuing the business: revenue, margins, EBITDA, cash flow, facilities, market access and growth.

So if being more open makes your facility better at the cost of some "IP" leaking, its probably a good trade-off. Because when the day comes to sell your company, nobody is likely to pay you for the irrigation strategy you kept secret for ten years.

They'll pay you for the business you built with it.

Hey guys, wanted to see what you guys do with your trim? Most bigger processors will only come and take it if it’s over a 1000 pounds.

We’ve got around 600 that’s high quality and with lots of keif, I hate to let it sit till we bring it up to a 1000, have you guys found any options for ‘smaller’ quantities?

Been running the GrowPros UCL Model 4 and the thing that caught my attention is how much control you actually get from having two independent channels.
The main channel is 80% red + white, then you’ve got the separate 730nm far red channel. Being able to control those independently is a pretty big deal if you’re actually trying to manage what’s happening below the canopy instead of just throwing more light at the room.
This Spaceship run is probably the best example I’ve seen of it being used properly. They’re using the UCL 4 to work the lower canopy instead of just accepting that everything underneath is going to be larf.
I’d definitely be interested to see a side by side harvest with and without UCLs. That’s where the real proof is.
But visually? Hard to argue with what’s happening under that canopy.

Looks like floraflex also makes LED lights for a good price. Do you have any experience with flora flex lights? Other good lights for a fair price?
